Terminator: Genisys - Part 6

It's a shame they couldn't hold on to some of Salvation's cast.

Yelchin looks MUCH better even opposite Emilia (than Courtney):

Poor Anton Yelchin got screwed. He was the best part of a mediocre movie, put effort into his role, and never got a chance to reprise it. Yelchin overall deserves more exposure. All he has giving him steady employment and some mainstream exposure is Star Trek, which doesn't give him much to do.

I can't stand Anton Yelchin, personally. He bugged me in Charlie Bartlett, he bugged me in Fierce People and Fright Night, and I'm pretty sure Like Crazy ruined him forever for me. I at least find him tolerable as Chekov, as long as he remains in small doses.

I liked Yelchin because he felt like a younger version of the Kyle Reese we saw in the original film. I could believe that this kid would grow up to be Michael Biehn.

That's the most important thing to keep in mind. These last two films (both Salvation & Genisys) are connected to the original two films.

They're all essentially playing the same version, that Biehn played. He set the standard. That's why it's so jarring seeing someone like Courtney in the role. If this was a hard reboot and they were reinventing everything from the ground up, I could give him the benefit of the doubt but it's not.

It's supposed to be the EXACT same version we saw in the 1984 classic film.

Yelchin at least did his homework and studied the original film and Biehn's performance. Even the costume designer on Genisys went to great lengths to replicate Kyle's outfit, right down to the classic Nike's.

Courtney of course couldn't be bothered. :whatever:

Courtney's condescending and dismissive comments about Biehn really soured me even more.

Yelchin really studied Biehn's Reese.

If Courtney was told to act like Biehn's Reese, he probably would have studied him. But that's clearly not what he was hired to do, nor what Taylor had in mind, so it doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me is seeing Emilia Clarke do this sad Linda Hamilton impression and failing on every level (imo).

Clarke comes off like a little girl playing dress-up. She is just not right for the role at all.

Maybe T1 innocent waitress Sarah, but not the badass soldier Sarah, which she's already supposed to be in this reworked timeline.

Both bother me.

The new scan of Terminator 2 is easily the best news to come out of anything related to this movie.

Now give me Abyss and True Lies Jimbo. Please.

Exactly. I could see her working as waitress Sarah, but that's about it.

Jason Clarke was quoted in an interview that he went back and studied T2 (and Edward Furlong) because he personally wanted moments in his performance, where we actually saw that same little boy.

That came straight from Courtney's co-star.

So what kind of direction is Taylor giving his actors, when there seems to be such a huge discrepancy between their two approaches? Why is Emilia trying to ape Linda, yet Courtney is doing something completely different?

Either way, they can't have their cake and eat it too. They're attempting to ride on the coattails of the originals, they can at least do it right.

So, don't Sarah and Reese still have to do the dirty at some point in this new timeline? That could seem kind of awkward now with them knowing everything, it seems.

"Well, I guess we need to have sex. Wanna do it now?"

Kind of takes away the spontaneity.

:funny: No kidding. It's like an arranged marriage now.

My theory is, as a well-regarded character actor, Jason Clarke probably takes every role seriously and took it upon himself to try to echo Furlong's performance.

Courtney's interview really made him sound like an arrogant *****e who thinks he's above it all.

Nailed it.

Anyone remember moon blood suckers comments about yelchin not being man enough or something like Beihn was in T1 when they were at comic con? . Lol well you can see where her career has gone.

Yeah, his insufferable and all around nasty attitude just taints the film even more, especially when compared to someone like Clarke.

Is she actually pointing that gun at someone or is she just holding it? It's hard to tell from that photo.

It's sad that Yelchin's teenage Kyle Reese's gun handling looks more authoritative and powerful than an adult actress playing Sarah Conner.

looks like she's scouting or being aware. Not on the verge of shooting someone.
