If it was the work of a yes man, that would mean that he was saying yes to somebody.
So that would mean that it was not entirely his fault.

Take it from someone who's a Marvel fan. For some people, it's NEVER Marvel's fault. Problems with IM2, Jon Favreau's fault, TDW, Alan Taylor all the way, AOU, it's all on Joss Whedon. Edgar Wright leaving Ant Man, completely his fault. Feige and co are NEVER the problem, it's always someone else.

Oh and Marvel also went through like three directors BEFORE getting to Taylor, so clearly there was a "divide" between the studio and the filmmakers.

I'm not talking about it being his fault or Marvel's fault or whatever. Fact is: Thor The Dark World is, imo, generic to the point where there's not an ounce of personality in there, granted, that might be said for some of their movies.

But btw Thor and now Terminator Genisys that exhibits that same feel, I think it's safe that Taylor is just a guy who does the job basically, and that's it, don't count on him to put in any kind of directorial stamp, and that's a shame really.

I will give the final battle to Dark World though, it was an entertaining twist on the usual battle in the city climaxed, with the main characters playing with the portals and all that. But yeah, that film was very mediocre, however, Genisys looks beyond terrible, looks like it's more in line with the quality of Platinum Dunes films.

Question:

[blackout]Is the Arnold upgrade a fully polymimetic liquid metal like the T-1000 or just has a polymimetic liquid metal shell like the T-X?[/blackout]

I have a theory that Alan Taylor is just like my boss. I work at a graphic design company in LA, and we work on design work and visual effects for movies, games, etc.

Our boss (who is a celebrity in his own right) made a name for himself in the art world, and boy he's difficult. Intelligent but all about hubris, with a dash of being sociopath and having aspberger. He's a good man deep down, but difficult to deal with, and alan taylor (who is around the same age) gives me the same vibes.

Sad to see how bad it's doing in reviews....but I knew that's how it was going to be. I just wish such a great franchise didn't get such a piss poor handling. :/

OH please exaggerate much?

[Blackout]Its not made clear. Hes body falls into the liquid metal pool.Seems like he can change form into any thing he wants so I guess its a mixture of both.[/blackout]

No actually Loki is not exaggerating at all.

It really does look as bad as Platinum Dunes films.

[blackout]Does he make knives and stabbing weapons? T-X didn't have that capability. I think if it were a liquid metal shell, those stabbing weapons would be hollow.[/blackout]

The problem with the final battle is that too much is dedicated to Jane's annoying friends. Having Thor's group there to do actual battle would have been a lot better then the random slapstick.

He makes these..

To open the room where Sarah and Kyle are hiding after destroying Cyberdome.

Agreed so hard. I really liked the idea of the battle, it was interesting and different but once again we just can't survive without a joke a second. You can't just have jokes here and there in the battle, it must overwhelm everything else.

It so weird, because Thor's part of the battle already has a lot of goofiness to it. But then they doubled downed with the Darcy crap. As someone who was a fan of Darcy in the first film, it was sad to see them basically make the character unpalatable. All the while, Sif and the Warriors Three do little to nothing.

While there's a definite bias for Marvel, we all know TDW, TIH, the Edgar Wright and IM2 were largely their fault. And it shows because its the same mistakes especially with TDW and IM2. Anyone saying otherwise is in denial.

What do you mean by Platinum Dunes?

Which is the point. Plenty here like to deny this. Plenty.

Where Alan Taylor's Game of Thrones episodes even that good? I remember he directed the season 2 finale which had a very weak House of the Undying segment.

He directed some okay episodes, but he also directed two of the best episodes of the series in "Baelor" and "Fire and Blood".

they are one of the best episodes because of the material, not his direction, most directors would do a good job with material that good

I agree. Especially after some of the work we have seen in episodes like Blackwater, Hardhome and Watchers on the Wall. Though I do feel like Taylor handled some big scenes rather well.

So... does this movie count T3 and Salvation for anything?

If this one bombs I really hope that they just let this franchise die.

I just hope it bombs. I am not very trusting on audiences right now. :funny:
