I think I will go see this this weekend. I mean it can't be that bad can it?

well after 1 week of reading how bad it is you will have low expectations. so it will be easier to watch the movie.

imagine going there without knowing anything.

I am not expecting much, just a mindless flick with decent action.

I was surprised by the film. They approached time travel from a whole new more modern angle in theoretical physics, i.e. Many Worlds Theory.

The Skynet that converts John Connor using nanites isn't from that universe, but from a parallel universe. Assimilated John Connor even explains his view to Sarah and Kyle that they are all temporal refugees or exiles, which is why it wouldn't matter if he killed them or not. He would not cease to exist by killing Sarah because that universe has already happened. It seems that the new Skynet understands the futility of trying to change the future, but instead wants to assimilate all of humanity into a new machine order.

It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I think some of the plot may be too complex for modern audiences. There wasn't enough exposition to really explain fully what was happening for most people, it especially needed more info on parallel universes and Many World's Theory.

I can definitely see why Cameron liked the film.

Interesting take. On a sidenote one thing that did both me about Skynet was:

I mean did anyone know who "Alex" the resistance leader was? He just like some dude standing there and no one pointed him out or thought it was odd? I wish they had done a better job of building up his character before his reveal. I wish they had had him as part of John's resistance. A trusted friend, maybe a rival of Kyle. Granted they didn't have a lot of time to do that, but still it would've been nice to slide in a little less obtrusively.

And another completely side note thing, why would a Terminator during the Future War drive a truck? Why aren't the trucks Skynet uses fully automated?

I think that's the best way to approach it. Plus if you were a fan of the first two Terminator films you might get some nostalgia, particularly if you were a fan of the first one. Conversely that might turn you off as well because you could see Genisys as aping a superior film.

@DarKush, I agree there should have been some more build up and more background. A good 30 minutes of exposition, dreams/nightmares and lulls in the action to develop characters would have worked wonders.

I just dont get that reasoning as an excuse. What are we really comparing it to? We cant compare it to T2 because that movie is generally better than most sci fi action movies since the 90s. The movie is crap. There really arent any redeemable moments in it. Im tired of people sayings its the best movie since T2..it doesnt work like that.

^
I don't get your reasoning. Why can't people say that within the context of the Terminator franchise? I mean you have T3 and T4 to consider. So perhaps many, like myself, are trying to figure out where Genisys falls in comparison to the other two films. I don't think it touches the first two, but where it is in comparison to T3 and T4 is a subject of debate for me.

Well if you compare it to the the best then its not going to come out very well. Its hard for most action movies to compare to T2. So I feel when people say "its the best since T2" that it isnt really saying anything at all. Its barely a good film aside from being related to The Terminator.. i mean thats kind of the only good thing about it..i

Dont get me wrong, im not stating this as fact or being super serious, im just having a fun discussion about a movie i think stinks.

Yea I like Terminator 1 , 2, and the short lived TV show The Sarah Connor Chronicles but disliked all the other movies. I am going into this with low expectations with this, but I am hoping I will still be a decent flick at least in terms of action.

I wouldn't say the movie was crap. Its definitely not a James Cameron film, but I actually enjoyed Genisys more than quite a few other sci fi films. This was not a Resident Evil or AvP quality film.

In my opinion, I think it was a better film than:
I, Robot
Eagle Eye
2012
GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra or Retaliation
Tron: Legacy
Battle: Los Angeles
Prometheus (Though Prometheus still looks really good)
Total Recall remake
Star Trek Into Darkness
Chappie
and maybe the Robocop remake

I would put it on a scale in terms of enjoyment similar to Predators, Pacific Rim, The Wolverine, and maybe Godzilla.

Sure its no Mad Max Fury Road, but it isn't horrible.

Deadline is reporting that Inside Out with 7.7 million is in first place followed closely by jurassic World with 6.86.million.
Terminator Genisys is in third place with 6.47 million.
Magic Mike has the fourth slot with 5.7 million.
They didn't mention the 5th place finisher

I'm watching this right now...

It is nice that the future looks like Cameron's (lasers/blue tint) but once Fake Reese goes back in time everything is getting very stupid, especially this Fake T-1000.

Fake Sarah isn't great and her POPs T-800, but I do like the banter-comedy carried over from T2 between John/T-800 (Model 101).

This displaced time-line plot thing is a joke, it worked in The Flash but not feeling it here with Fake Reese.

That's cool. It's all good. I thought the film was decent. Granted I don't know how it stands on its own, if it wasn't a Terminator film. Though with the story very reverential, if not dependent, on the first two Terminator films I don't see how it could really stand alone.

I think it is decent. And the action scenes were decent for the most part. Some might have been a little too CGI-y but I enjoyed it for the most part. But I also liked returning to the universe, seeing just a little bit more of the Future War, etc.

I think Genisys was better than the Resident Evil and AVP films (at least the first AVP film). Not as good as Into Darkness to me (even though I hated the Cumberbatch Khan and TWOK ripoff stuff). I'm not sure if Genisys is better than I, Robot. That's a tough one. I could at least stay awake for Genisys unlike the Total Recall remake. It's probably better than the GI JOE films, though Jonathan Pryce was a more enjoyable villain in Retaliation than what I saw in Genisys. I liked Battle: LA, but I could put Genisys over that one. I think Genisys holds together better than Prometheus. Genisys is better than Tron Legacy. If I recall I liked 2012 more than Genisys. I liked Genisys a little more than The Wolverine and Godzilla. I'm not sure if I like it more than Pacific Rim. Genisys, I liked it more than Robocop.

The bus/bridge scene is even more ridiculously stupid than what the trailers teased.

Why would you go to a theater to bash a movie while you are watching it?

Terminator introducing the concept of a multiverse is ****ing stupid.

Especially how Reese and Sarah escaped it without a freaking scratch. They should be dead from blunt force trauma.

it's like when you're 8 years old and you friend tells you to try something that you know you shouldn't do... but you do it anyways.

You have to taste the bad candy, jump off the garage, shoot a BB gun at a wall sometimes no matter how bad it will hurt.

This J.K. Simmons through line means nothing like the cops in Terminator showing up here and there in the sequels.

This helicopter chase is so bad.
