I liked certain parts of it. If this does somehow get a sequel I hope they get a better marketing team that doesn't spoil parts of the movie. Also I kind of want to know who sent Pops back and why he or she didn't want anyone to know

So that Terminator attack from T1, where Kyle Reese loses his picture of Sarah in the fire, never happened in Genisys future war. Because Kyle still had it when he was stripping for the time machine. Another reason to dislike this movie, no matter how minor.

I thought that was presented as just a dream Sarah had, rather than some sort of canonical fact.

It wasn't bad - i just wished they left the past movies alone and went in a new direction.

Like i mentioned earlier, spend 15 minutes on the war and show how the resistance had grown, with groups from all over the world coming together - how the european resistance (with the help of an old arnie T800) was vital and them defending europe was crucial.

Then we see them all together to take down the main skynet.

Then show skynet send Terminators to the past, then JC's reaction, knowing what he has to do in the larger scheme of things, with Kyle, reprogrammed T800 etc.

Then have old T800 collaborate with JC as he helps the team reprogram various models, to counter act sky nets efforts, then old T800 sends two models back in retaliation to the one sent to europe - which JC is unaware of, as it was never his war/story.

We now see this story.

We then see a Terminator arrive in Europe - could be 80's, 90's whatever and we have new franchise that could be based anywhere.

The reason, i just didn't like thinking that T1and T2 technically didn't happen.

The fact that the T800 in 1984 can build a time machine, yet Connor/Skynet still can't in 2017 is beyond puzzling.

yup

don't know who sent him
don't know how he can build a time machine
don't know how he can fall into some s*** and suddenly become a t-1000

he's a walking plot hole is what he is

Didn't they say the liquid metal just needed a chip and then it was 'connected' and 'alive'.

I just wished they kept it simple

I see now that everyone on the internet hates this movie. Sounds like the studio screwed up a wet dream.

I don't hate this film. I've seen it twice. I thought it was a good popcorn film. I'm not going to say it a great film, or a film that even a casual or non-Terminator fan might fully get. I don't know if it stands on its own as an action or sci-fi film, but still despite that I enjoyed it.

I thought the plan for Salvation was to replace Connor with a terminator double.
I liked the ending that they chose.

I wished that Salvation had made Connor a Terminator. I think it would've made for a better film and perhaps helped justify why Marcus was such an important character in the film, his sacrifice could've had more meaning. Also I like the idea of a Terminator defeating Skynet, a machine beating a machine. And it felt like once Salvation gutted that they didn't change the movie enough to reflect the new changes.

Just saw this an hour ago. My head hurts. From over complicated plot holes to mind numbing errors and poor vehicle chases. I was as disapointed as expected.

However, I really did enjoy Arnold this time around. More so than his work in T3. I would say a bit of credit goes to the director. Arnold has a great presence, but finding the right directors to focus this energy is a big step into making Arnold work. He did not work in T3, his performance was just off. His performance in T5 was excellent, from delivery, to timing, to deadpan was great, but I didn't buy much of the substance and exposition he was giving. Arnold delivered, but the rest of the movie just fell flat for me.

A lot of people have already gone on about how the movie was poor, but I certainly like it better than T3, and I'm mixed between this and Salvation. Salvation had interesting new ideas for the future of the franchise which have been all but scrapped aside from taking a few ideas and inserting them into T5.

I just can't describe how gutted I feel when you see CG helicopters doing stupid things, and expecting us to be awed by it. We're awed in T2 because a helicopter is being flown under a bridge, and in one case, almost into it and above it. The first 2 movies are malleable, and in a lot of places Salvation is malleable where this movie is not.

I can't give it over a 5, but I really did like the Terminator fights, I did enjoy those, and I appreciate them not completely beating us over the head with call backs even if they were there, but they were integrated nicely.

But then for all that positives there are just gutting blunders to me, it's like the writers or the director have never watched the original Terminator. Kyle is shown as a kid meeting an infiltrator, when adult Reese said they're new in T1. Then we see that Kyle still has the picture of Sarah in the displacement chamber, WHEN IT WAS ****ING BURNED before Kyle even gets sent back in T1. Yet despite that, they got the individual Terminator themes right, Pops in 84 had the T2/good Terminator theme, and the 84 Terminator had the heartbeat theme from the first movie. How can you get that right, but then mix up easier things? Salvation didn't even get that right.

Just mind numbing.

If this movie opens lower than Salvation, what are the chances that Skydance and Paramount will power through this and still go ahead with a sequel anyway? I imagine the overseas grosses will have to be fantastic.

FYI:

Terminator Genisys is going to have the lowest opening weekend and holiday opening weekend out of any film in the franchise besides the first one...which only cost $10 million to make. This one cost about $170 million.

I see no way Skydance and Paramount can spin this. Not to mention, the marketing campaign completely backfired on them.

I'm not going to lie, at least the trailers for Terminator Salvation were pretty good.

There is no "if" concerning it opening lower than Salvation.

Salvation did 65 million in 5 days and TG is headed for around 42-43mil in 5 days. Hell Salvation did 55mil in 4 days.

Salvation's trailers were clearly better. Apparently TG is doing well so far internationally.

Just got back from seeing it so I'm going to add a few thoughts:

Emilia Clarke is miscast. She's too small and sweet looking for the role.
Jai Courtney wasn't the disaster I expected. He was ok.
Too many scenes with cyborg's knocking each other around.
The first 15 minutes were fun.
The script was overly complicated.
The scene with the Bad Boys theme song was embarrassing.
JK Simmons was great.
I'm not sure what to think of Alan Taylor as a director.
This movie had one of the most embarrassing marketing campaign ever.

I just hate how they keep making the Terminators these CG non-forms. The original works because it's a big metal robot. T2 gets a bye because it's Cameron and also the CG was absolute cutting edge technology being pushed to its [then] limits.

Making the new Terminators nano robot fluid **** is like when they have a cloud as a bad guy. There's is no connection whatsoever with the audience.

If there are ever any more Terminator films please just make it about metal robots fighting humans using practical models where you can. That's all anybody wants to see. Stop distracting us with all this **** that takes us further and further away from why the original worked so well and closer towards generic sci-fi that always falls flat.

I have no idea why this got hated by the critics so much, I thought it was fantastic. It definitely wasn't just about explosions and stuff. I really loved the relationship between Kyle Reese, Sarah and pops.

I also think they fleshed out Sarah without loosing the fact that she's a badass. Plus jai Courtney is crazy hot.

I would definitely be happy with including it on the same shelf as t1 and t2

I am so glad this is failing at the box office. They should just leave the franchise be or give Cameron whatever money and creative control he wants to make a sequel to Terminator 2 (despite T2 seemingly completing the story, Cameron was toying with a third film in the mid-90s). It makes no sense, Cameron's films print money, why keep hiring hacks to make sequels?

Cameron is more interested in making sequels to movies that no one cares about like Avatar.

Or better still, just stop making Terminator movies. The series is well past its use-by date.

:hehe:

You know I am really curious about Avatar 2. I liked the first film, but I would rather Cameron spent his creative resources on new properties.

I think they could very well make Terminator films just LEAVE THE PRIOR FILMS ALONE! Just go in a fresh, new direction. No more Conners, no more Schwarzenneger, no more messing with the Judgment Day prophecy, just hire a good screenwriter and make a brand new direction with a contemporary story. Do what they're doing with the Planet of the Apes series.

This movie wasn't as bad as I thought. It was way better than terminator 3 and salvation for sure. But it was still lackluster compared to Terminator 1&2. I would give it a 7/10.

Thank you US audiences, for not going to see this in abundance.

What's even sadder is that this one undoes/is an alternate timeline to T1 and T2. Reese doesn't die in 1984, as he originally does, the T800 doesn't shoot up the police station therefore, the cops aren't still looking for him when his pic is taken in the mall in T2 due to his fight with the T-1000,etc. Not to mention, since Reese and Sarah are now in 2017, John Connor will be a different age……then again, Judgement Day should have already happened, so i guess it evens itself out.

So much wasted potential…..

I'm usually not one to root on failure but I've made an exception. I want the destuction of T1 and T2's legacy to stop already. So yes I am actively hoping that it doesn't even hit 100mil total.

I too am not all the big on rooting for failure, but yeah I want it here. Especially after watching the first two again this week. Still, the international box office will most likely save it.
