Seriously, this is the BEST announcement you've even made on here!

I don't know how many times I get PISSED OFF because I see something major about a movie FOUR months before it gets released! :cmad:

And what an appropriate time to kick off such a bold rule, what with the new Harry Potter book just around the corner, and 'The Dark Knight' buzz heating up!!

I hope this is one rule that doesn't go away! Good luck mods, you have your work cut out for you!

I second that. It certainly is a life saver.

I'll third it. Excellent policy change.

jag

It only applies to thread titles right?

Like when DC or Marvel has a BIG event, and people are starting spoiler threads with the 'BIG REVEAL' in the title?!? Dammit that makes me so MAD!! :cmad:

That's one of the reasons I didn't hurry back from my recent hiatus! Hopefully this new policy will strengthen relations and cut down on hate crimes.

What kind of ban is it though? I mean, I can see many a noob falling to this policy.

it's not going to change much, or stop people putting spoiler clips in avatars or making spoiler gifs based on internet footage.

You know as soon as any new teaser info comes out, it's going to be in people's avatars, that is the nature of this place, the majority of time i know something new has been released is because i see a n avatar i have never seen before or i go to the gif thread and my jaw drops.

Meh, i don't see how you can properly control this bad boy...

Ultimately one should just put a disclaimer notice that comes on before you enter a spoiler section stating you come in at your own risk.

and spoiler section threads should have their own search system, separate from other sections.

that's the only way i see this working instead of this 'tread carefully' idealistic approach that isn't very practical.

People like to put spoilers in titles, not because they're excited, but because they like to be jerk asses. No sane person would do that. You see it on imdb all the time.

I don't understand why it took so long.

instant ban is a bit much. maybe a warning first?

Probation would be better, seeing as alot of people don't pay attention to stickies.:o

Spoiler tags actually make me want to click on them. But that's just me. :yay:

I agree... I have seen plenty of things on here that have spoiled a lot of movies but there is no stopping it, if there was a rule about spoilers in avies etc that would probably deter it for a week or two but that's about it

Most mods know and have seen enough of the tv spots, btw, exclusives etc....to know if it is something from a pirated movie......

There is no way to stop people from putting the tv spot stuff etc......these types of bannings will pretty much be happening once the screenings begin for a movie....not 3 months before a movie comes out, as far as the avvys, gifs etc......

i can appreciate the thought behind the announcement, but "spoiler" is an incredibly vague term. taking the Batman movie for example, the announcement of a character not expected to be in the film could be a spoiler, and that's happened twice now. discussion of those characters and their roles is going to be inevitable. is spoiler character? actor? plot outline? plot point? basically, anything could potentially be a spoiler.

the nature of this site is spoiler information and discussion. to deny that is to deny the raison d'etre; it's very existence. if you want to control it better, then get rid of the "latest post/thread" in each forum lobby, just have the links to each forum. but if this policy is going to be in place, then there should be a concrete definition of what a spoiler is and what it isn't.

Well if that's the case, i think it's pretty futile...

anyone complaining about being spoilt merely days before a film comes out in there region because some people have watched it before them (and they are aware of this) are doing it completely at their own risk.

HOwever, if i've been careful to avoid the fantastic four section, then get someone in community with an avatar of the thing giving doom a clothesline, WEEKS before teh movie comes out, then i would be annoyed.

Par example...

the majority of people having venom avatars not only now but six months ago from the leaked trailer and the hype being happy to have that.

you can't stop it.

Transformers comes out in the Uk over 20 days after it does in america, are you going to tell me you are going to guard that forum for that long because I'm not smart enough to stay out of it myself or not use the 'new post' function button?

Again i say the search function should have a property in it that allows the searching of spoiler inclusive and exclusive to its searches.

Anyone truelly wanting to stay spoiler free should really not be coming to the forum boards of the hype.

certain things like extended fights shown...

like the majority of scenes advertised in the last stand or peter and harry's fight in spidey 3.

THAT'S SPOILER HEAVY and plenty of people would choose not to want to watch that much footage even though it has been officially released.

saying this though, this and the tv spots are technically allowed to be paraded around.

I think the only spoilers they mean are ones that are impossible to know unless you view the film.

Saying this though, what if a scripted has been leaked about a million years ago like transformers, is the demise of some characters now a spoiler or common knowledge?

the term itself is very relative and i feel that different mods are going to see different things as potential spoilers and this is going to piss off a lot of members since they will be treated differently.

such is life i suppose
