No, you're the only one.Did anyone else feel that Nostalgia Chick reviewing Hercules was a bad idea? The film was critical hit and financial yet she's nitpicking every little thing about the film.

No, you're the only one.![]()
She actually use to review bad movies almost like how Critic did, but at some point she decided that she didn't want to just be the "female version of the Nostalgia Critic" and started doing it the way she does it now.Thank you! Its too much of a stretch. I know she isn't NCritic, but she's supposed to review bad films, not nitpick films that are actually good. Her wasn't review wasn't funny and it came off as annoying.
I assumed the gospel singing muses were a take on the Chorus that showed up in Greek plays. Much like a musical (without the music), some Greek plays had a chorus chime in during or between scenes.
I wasn't bothered by the music personally. Hell if one of my favorite animes can be a series that has a hip/hop score, but is about samurai why not gospel Hercules? Plus I found it catchy myself. But at the same time I don't mind NChick nit picking the film. Really that's what most of the reviewers on thatguywiththeglasses does even if it's usually with bad films. In the end it's all for a laugh.

Samurai Champloo (which i'm assuming is what you're referring to) is entertaining despite its anachronisms (not necessarily the soundtrack, because characters aren't performing it on-screen, but moments such as beatboxing and others that don't fit in the time period whatsoever), but that doesn't excuse the out-of-place nature of several aspects of the show. It may add to its charm in a weird way, but still makes it harder for me to appreciate it.
In the case of Hercules, it isn't just the songs being out-of-place - they're being sung by non-Christian mythological individuals. That's what causes a mere anachronism to become strange and absurd.
I'd like to point out that I really like the movie anyway - it's just that I'm not going to ignore severe problems with the movie to protect my enjoyment of it.
I know, but usually with bad films there's more material (unless it's NCritic's Junior review) and there's a little more breathing room for nitpicking. With good movies it's much easier to come off as whiny.
"Anacronism". Thank you! I knew their was a word for that, but for the life of me I couldn't remember. I can't tell you how long I was hunched over the computer screen with a vexed expression trying to recall the earlier lessons of my high school English course.
But as far as the song goes, I see where you're coming from, and normally I would agree with how jarring such a mixing of two concepts can be; for instance I really hated JLA: Act of God for exactly that reason. However, in this case, it wasn't as if they were singing about Jesus or their God in the tune to Gospel. They were still singing about Hercules in the end.
Glad you like the movie anyway though.
I know exactly what you mean; I sat through ConfusedMatthew's (one of my favorite youtube critics) negative review The Lion King and The Incredibles. But I just don't feel the need to hold it against them unless they come off as trollish; like how I believe Spoony acts on ocassion, but even then I realise how boring it would be if I agreed with him on everything.
None the less I do agree. NChick was very nitpicky, especially with the drinking game that served no purpose except to show us the movie's motifs. It didn't really tell us why those recurring elements were bad. So it was essentially a waste of time.
