Probably better than being the most overrated team in the playoffs this year. Someone forgot to tell the Wings that regular season records don't matter in the chase for the cup :o

haha you're funny, u know what else is funny? the 7-1 victory in 2002 vs the avs game 7, the first time roy was taken out of a game:up:

Meh, the past is the past. Which team's still alive? Not the Wings.

past is the past?

that means the wings loss is in the past, at least i'm not *****ing about the ****ty refs like the rest of detroit

The Yeah No was that they weren't the last winners of the Norris Divison. They never even won the Norris Division once.

Oh boy...I'm doing the neccessary "You're a little slow and I need a visualize reference to guide you" moment now;)

Based on your theory...the Detroit Red Wings (jeez I hate those soft panzies BTW good on 'em:) are the champions of 2005-2006 right?? They WON the Presidents trophy this year so they are champs right? Regular seasons matters for everything right???

OK if that is your definition of "winner" you are right...

BUT if you believe that the team that wins their conference / division in the PLAYOFFS is your champion... then you can understand.

The Toronto Maple Leafs won the LAST Norris division championship in the year of 1992 - 1993, by beating the Red Wings (funny enough) and the Blues.

Look it up...study your on-line searches...but you'll find it is true:)

go on espn.com watch that goal that was desputed, he kicked it

It was actually inconclusive. Hemsky's head was up. How could he know where the puck was so he could actually kick it in the first place?

Besides, that shouldn't have mattered anyways. I mean the Wings were up 2-0 the end of the second period and they managed to squander that lead.....

Arogant? Redwings were the best team in the regular season how many times in the past 5 years?

you're ****ing stupid:down

Being the best team in where you play in a conference where you play the two worst teams in all of hockey (St Louis and Chicago) isn't really saying anything. Detroit was overrated and overhyped. I'm glad they got their asses handed to them in the first round, nice reality check.

Don't forget Columbus as well. And I think they played pretty good against Nashville. That's like four teams they could've won against easily. 8 games against each of those four teams means about 32 points right there. Compare that to the Oilers, who had the Avalanche, Flames, Wild, and Canucks in their division and the series actually looked closer than the standings actually told.

how does it feel to have my foot kicked up your ass? ;)

What can a person from Detroit do to a person from Edmonton?

Especially since this Edmontonian eats Grade A Alberta Beef.

It's more than that. It seemed throughout the series that the refs were more willing to call upon Edmonton than Detroit.

Thats because DETROIT SUCKS DETROIT SUCKS DETROIT SUCKS

That's an interesting theory on how Detroit got the refs to lay off a bit on their team.

Well, here's hoping that Calgary doesn't yet again blow a Game 7 at home. :(

LMAO @ the Flyers!

Love seeing those guys lose as well.

Way for em to show up in an elimination game.

Actually, Calgary is 5-5 in game 7 situations, but they lost so many crucial ones at home during the early 90's...

:(

Other than Themanofbat, what's with all the Calgary love on the poll? Because they lost last time?

Well its the theory all the NHL teams employ. In the playoffs if you win the conference you raise a Conference Champions banner at the start of the new season. In the regular season if you win a division you raise a Division Champions banner at the start of the new season. I would consider Detroit the regular season champions. That was with a different format for the playoffs, I'll admit you can be right, just one how you see things. But Toronto was in the west.

Alright, I looked this up... I have to go to Calgary.

If the Flames lose tonight (which wouldn't mind seeing, disapoint all those bandwagon Flames fans) Edmonton may be a fine alternative. I was flipping through the channels last night, CTV NewsNet did a piece on a potential Battle of Alberta - 2 pairs of breasts being flashed from Edmonton fans were shown - no censoring or nothing. They weren't the best and it was really quick but I didn't think they could get away with something like that at 1030pm. Anyway it seems "Shirts off for Horcoff" is a go.

Damn, you people are crazy about hockey up there. It seems that this kind of thing ALWAYS happens up there in Calgary and Edmonton... no matter what playoff series they win. I did read some things about Calgary trying to cut down on the whole celebration though... I guess they are going to arrest flashers and have a much bigger police prescence on those nights. That sucks.

The Red Sox are huge here and when they beat the Yankees and then won the World Series it was pretty much the same thing throughout Boston... but that is like once in a lifetime. It didn't have as many flashers, it had quite a few though... it probably didn't have as many due to it being in late October when it happened. A bit too cold I guess. Also... there is much more of a police prescence around here when things like that happen and it ends up with the police arresting a ton of people.

You don't know the half of it. It was a near riot when the Oilers only made it past one playoff round in 1997 and 1998. It was a near riot as well on Monday when Oilers beat Detroit. Look at some of the stuff at Whyte Ave that night:

Can you imagine what would happen if the Oilers made it to the Stanley Cup finals?

I'm glad I'm not living anywhere close to Whyte Ave at the moment :o

Well Boston is more exciting then NY or NJ when NY wins they have a parade but the city is pretty normal besides that.

In NJ we have a lot of fun tailgate parties.

But there's no riots or flashers here.

And try to imagine what would be be worse for the city of Calgary. The Flames winning or losing?

Remember Vancouver's riot back in '94?

June 14th, 1994, after the Vancouver Canucks hockey team lost the Stanley Cup finals to the New York Rangers, 40,000 hockey fans rioted in the streets of Vancouver. Rioters caused more than $1 million in property damage. There were hundreds of injuries and one fatality, yet police made very few arrests that night. In the days following the riot, investigators obtained more than 100 hours of videotaped evidence of the riot from media sources and private citizens. Using the data basing powers of Avid's non-linear editor, police analysts were able to search all 100 hours of video for specific suspects based on clothing or other physical descriptions.

365 people were eventually identified, and 106 were charged with comitting a crime. All of those charged were convicted thanks almost exclusively to the videotapes. As a result of this success, the courts, prosecutors and senior police commanders in Vancouver gained a new appreciation for the value of videotape as an evidentiary tool.

Constable Brett Hallgren, Coordinator of the Vancouver Police Forensic Video Unit, says he now receives more than 1,000 videotapes per year as a result of criminal investigations. “Although we process a large number of tapes, we rarely have to go to court. The video evidence is so strong, we are seeing about 95% of our suspects plead guilty,” says Hallgren. In fact, a recent audit of Vancouver's Forensic Video Unit showed the section saved the department and the courts more than $880,000 in the previous year due to early identifications and speedy guilty pleas.
