The 2016 Republican Candidates - Part 1

If by some reverse miracle Christie became president he would be one of the hated Republicans in history.

Bush was folksy and disarming.

Christie is just an desperste, obese football lineman playing General Patton in front of West Point.

It's embarrassing.

That's cool. I agree with a lot of what Christie has to say :)

My top picks are Christie and Rubio.

I'm eager to see what the "tickets" end up being... when the primaries are over and we start seeing who picks who for VP/Running Mates. I think in a lot of cases it's almost a guarantee some of these candidates "joining forces" as running mates. Maybe not Trump, he'd pick his own people from his business world...

Carson's recall of West Point is so vague it's scary, but possible. The DOD pays for all cadets. There is no "Scholarship" and his putting that into his story makes it seem a tad false. I had a neighbor whose grandson was considered for a Coast Guard Academy, which like West Point, Annapolis and the Air Force Academy has the same basic conditions. A prospective Cadet should have done very well in ROTC been nominated, an equivalent to that in a District or Territory, or The President and by a member of Congress and MUST apply for it.

It's quite likely the ROTC rep suggested Carson and any other ROTC students who did well apply. That's part and parcel of his job. Carson's account comes off like selling himself. "I was so good a student, they were giving me a scholarship to make me a General". Carson 'does not remember who the ROTC rep's name, nor his Congressman or Senators were, but name drops himself into a dinner with General William Westmoreland on a date the General was elsewhere.

This is why BS detectors are going off.

Christie would be like having Bobby Bacala as president. I'd tolerate it.

Really liked the exchange between Marco Rubio and Rand Paul about military spending where Paul pointed out how much of a hypocrite Rubio is. If we want to get out of debt, we need to slash military spending and close a few of our overseas bases. We need a strong military that protects us, not acts as the world's police.

While I agree with reducing the amount of bases, you probably can keep the bases and just get rid of wasteful spending and cut Military spending a decent amount. How many times do we hear stories of 43M dollar gas stations, 600 dollar toilet seats, yards full of tanks we never used in Nevada, infrastructure projects in the middle east going over budget by billions, etc

Good. This country doesnt need a backwoods bigot like him in the oval office.

Not surprising, and good riddance. Jindal is just awful.

I think we can all agree (Except those who are for Trump and Carson) that the GOP is a total mess at this point.

I dunno about that, Carson and Trump are sideshows.

Paul Ryan is Speaker of the House and Marco Rubio is probably odds on favorite for the Republican Nomination. It seems like they might just be getting their act together.

And add in how, asides from the White House, they dominate all levels of government.

That's a testament to the Democrats too. Remember how horrid Republicans were viewed just 6 short years ago? The Democrats blew their chance in only 2 short years.

It was once said that Democrats are the party of no ideas and Republicans were the party of bad ideas. I think that's still true today but in reverse.

I wouldn't say that the Democrats have no ideas or that they have bad ideas. They do have ideas that as long as you know what you're talking about, can intelligently back them up. The problem is that despite most people siding with the Democrats on issues like immigration, minimum wage, and gun control, those are not winning issues for them at the polls. And the demographics that they court to go to the polls, are really ****** voters.

The most recent elections ever since the 1990's really show just how delusional and how much in la-la land the Democrats are in regards to their position. The Age of Obama has seen the GOP absolutely dominate in state and local politics, taking the vast majority of governorships and state legislatures. The Democrats in the Obama Era went from having a supermajority in Congress to the GOP having the largest majority since the 1920's. And I firmly believe that the GOP would have a supermajority if it weren't for the Tea Party sabotaging races in several Senate contests. Democrats love to bring up how they won five out of the past six Presidential elections, but all but one come with HUGE freaking asterisks. Bill Clinton never won more than 50% of the vote. Al Gore didn't even become President. And Barack Obama won when no Republican was going to win. The only Democratic victory that doesn't have an asterisk attached to it, is Obama's 2012 victory.

Meanwhile, the Republicans have looked at their 2008 and 2012 losses. They recognized the problems and have gone forward in trying to fix them. They shut the Tea Party down in 2014. They're improving their voter outreach and technology gap. They recognize their demographic problems. They work to win at the lower levels of government beyond just the White House. They had reports of hundreds of pages detailing what needs to get done in order to win, while Democrats' report is a fraction of that size and brushes everything off as a mere communication problem.

Maybe instead of debating whether or not they should be slightly to the left of Obama or way to the left of Obama with Hillary vs. Bernie, they should be debating about how to actually win. For all the Democrats' griping about crazy Republicans debating how far to the right they should take the party, the reality is that the GOP's grip on government is so strong that they can afford to have such a debate. Democrats on the other hand, are not in the position to debate on how far to the left they should go.

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovemen...lieve_about_the_unemployment_rate_under_obama

A new Bloomberg Politics national poll released today offered more insight into how the GOP presidential race is shaping up, but buried in it was this question:

"Do you think the unemployment rate is higher or lower than when President Obama took office in 2009?"
Overall, one third responded "higher," which is stunningly false, and 56 percent rightly stated "lower."

But, also stunning, the majority of Republicans – 53 percent – responded they thought the unemployment rate is higher than when Pres. Obama took office. By contrast, 76 percent of Democrats rightly stated unemployment is lower.

It's highly disappointing how Dems are repeating history. A progressive president with a conservative legislature and conservative state run bodies is not going to move the needle significantly in our country. Liberals sure do know how to lose....
We seemed to have settled in this nice little niche of "well at least we'll get the presidency." It's like talking to a 5 year old. Say what you want about conservatives... but they know what they want, and they're out to get it, it whatever way is possible. Liberals act like they're fumbling in the dark, just trying to keep things in order.
There are times where I really feel like I'm being "good cop, bad cop'ed." Either I settle with a strong Executive with crazy ideas, or I settle for a weak Executive who has good ideas but can't push them through. Awesome choice for the American voter.
