The 50 Best Marvel Characters

It was supposedly stated on Fanboy Radio. I don't know if that's true, though. I don't listen to Fanboy Radio.
I just read it the other day and since I like BRB i would hope he got a shot at a title.

I suggested this too. I think we could probably order them as well. We would need to make a voting system though.

How's about we have a list of 100 names, then put a poll, then we can order according to votes?

Deadpool? Deadpool is not a good character. HE'S A LOSER! That's why we love him! He's the under dog!
All that list needs is to replace Gambit with Deadpool and loose all the other characters and there ya go. :D

The reason why I love Deadpool is because he's not a great character. Because he's not a hero, not a villain, doesn't have a whole lot of depth. He's just Deadpool.
:)

I think that would characterize him as more of a character than any character in comics history. Not all characters have to be like Superman or Spiderman

I think if we make our own TOp 50 we would each have to nominate a ranked list of 50, use the ranks as points and then add up each characters posts. We would probably end up with a few ties within the points so we take the group (example: One group would be characters with 10 points, group two with 5). Then you take each group and rank them using a tournmanent style voting system. Match-ups would be random.

I didn't say he isn't a character, just not a great character. He is very flawed and limited, and yet very loveable. :)

read the Beta Ray Bill entry
I did. Even though I like Bill and think he's an awesome character, I still think a character like Thor should've made the top fifty. Though, as you mention, it seems they're going with the more...outlandish and bizarre characters. :o

I dont see Deadpool as limited. Cabe and Deadpool has taken him to new heights. I mean there was a little retcon-ing in his history i think, but the scene where he opens up to Cable about how his father died but he kept it real ambiguous (the reader eventually finds out what happens) was great. And so is his newest transition to hero (or more hero than before). Hes got great relationships (Weasel, Cable, Syrin, Blind Al), abilities (healing factor, pretty much any gun or melee weapon, martial arts), personality traits(funny, tragic, questionable sanity, fuzzy memory). I love it when he finally shows true emotions during the most extreme occurences (like when he really showed hate toward Weapon X) something I wish they did more often. I feel like he is an amalgam of all the greatest character traits (Spiderman's wit, Batman's brooding, Wolverine's history, Human Torch's youthful spirit, Guy Gardner's attitude)

Deadpool is my fave character and I will defend him to my grave. IMO he should be #1.

Don't get me wrong, he's one of my faves also. But I'm dead set against using a character to sell books and over comercializing him (Like say... i don't know, Wolverine) That's the reason why I love Deadpool so much. Over the years he has grown as a character but he has stayed true to himself, he has kept his essence of crazy, insane mercenary with a bit of heart. He's not very well known, not very popular, and I'd like it to stay that way.

I'll defend him to the grave and beyond but good things come in small packages, and I don't want Wade to become an attention ****e.

but that's what makes him a good character

My recommendation is - Wolverine. Sorry haters, but the Canuck midget with blades from his fists was many a kid's dream come true. The short, stubby guy with a scrappers attitude and a big heart who also subs as a samurai and a spy. He's everything every little boy dreams to grow up to be, plus he rips it up when he's mad. To this day, I daydream about how it would feel to pop those claws from my own hands.

Everyone take one. Let's see what you all got.

I'll take you up on that.

My 2nd recommendation is: Gambit. A character that began as nothing more than a sterotypical guy from the swamp and became a fan favorite with a huge following. Evolving from his less than lawful origins and becoming a team player, a man of blended shadow and light, a man that still has secrets buried beneath his rougish exterior. A troubled street urchin to master thief to playboy hotshot that finds true love, family, and redemption. The Swamp Rat you love to hate.

Heh, I love going against the grain. All I need now is a light for the fuel....

Can we veto nominations? Because Gambit has no place on any "top" anything lists, as far as I'm concerned. He's everything that was wrong with the '90s.

My number one is MAGNETO

The best character in Marvel full stop. Tortured Jew turned superhuman Hitler?
And you can undestand why?

Come on....what beats that?

BTW: I actually preferred most of the the 100-50 characters over the 50-1.

Also, a poll would take forever to implelement, with constant re-shuffling and there would be way too many votes to count and apply. T'would be satisfying at the end though...

Captain America, Dr. Doom, and Magneto would rank up near the top spot for me. The Early Lee/Ditko Spiderman would too.

I don't know why anyone is getting upset. The descriptions for some of those were pretty funny, especially Swarm, and it looked a little tongue-in-cheek.

Before you guys make a list, maybe you should put down what the criteria are. Otherwise, you'll just have a popularity contest of Spidey vs. Wolvie. My suggestions would be:
1)Opportunity for character growth/exploration
2)Visual appeal
3)Coolness/Weirdness/Quirkiness factor (which a lot on that list depended on to be there-Swarm, MODOK)
4)Has a tag-line(It's Clobberin' Time!, Sweet Christmas!, Justice is Served!)

Using my criteria, I'll nominate Iron Fist. He has a past that I'd like to see better defined. There's something kind of oddball about his partnership with Luke Cage that I find interesting. He, hands down, has one of the coolest, if completely unrealistic, costumes in the MU. And the Iron Fist is also a cool visual. No tag line, but he's around Cage enough, so Sweet Christmas, give him a break.
