"This game is a sequel to the first game " he said. "Think of it in terms of the first movie happened and that established our game world. The first game happened, which was an extension to the first film. From then forward the movies are going their way and the games are going their way.

"However, we are going to take some key moments that happen in the second film and adapt them for the game."

In this exciting story placed alongside the events of the second film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 lets you continue the adventures of Peter Parker as you search relentlessly for the person — or creature — who murdered your Uncle Ben.

Looked at the synopsis. It says that the game takes place 'alongside' the events of the film so that could mean somewhere in the middle of TASM2 (as a subplot) or directly afterward like the first game. We probably won't know until the game is released.
More like being similar time after the events of the first film than going through it

I'm not sure how I feel about Beenox making an alternate storyline/universe.

I'd rather they just stick to the movie's story and have sub plots like the Kraven thing going on and Uncle Ben's Killer. The old movie games did that.

Yeah yeah, it's a movie game, story isn't that important usually in movie games
The separation make a difference this time, these games stories of a slight more importance

So, do you guys think we'll be able to web yo-yo in this game? If we can I think Spider-man 3 the game had a good button for it, down on the d-pad. It was pretty cool to do that anytime you wanted.

That feature is awesome
Did you know if you're on yoyo mode and press the speed button Spidey moves forward? I had lots of fun with that

Web yo-yo is all over the trailer.
I want to know if we'll control it or if it will be automatic and uncontrollable like the jumps in holes in the previous game

I hope so too
Will have to wait and play it before judging it

The automacy and uncontrollable factors take the "magic" out of the game. Especially for a Spidey game. I think that's why the GTA series is such a big hit is because the level of control.

Problem is Spider-Man is a character with way too much freedom, control and acrobatic movement. How do you translate that to a simple controller with limited input? There has to be automacy and uncontrollable factors somewhere in order to ensure a rich and fun gameplay. Web-rush was a perfect example for this. You felt like Spider-Man with the push of a simple button. If they wanted to improve on it, all they'd have to do is take some of the uncontrollable factor out of it (select a target where you want to go and then use the left analog stick to dynamically alter the web-rush animation to move away from the default path a bit).

Asked Beenox about when we'll get to see gameplay.

Doesn't seem like it's up to them. Like, at all.

That's a good point. I guess it depends on how much control you want, and how you break it down. I don't think every little twist and turn that Spidey's body makes should be controlled, obviously, but a little more control into TASM's action is preferred. You give a good example.

As I said before, the biggest obstacle a developer has with Spider-Man after Activision is Spider-Man himself. Especially when it comes to the open world aspect.

I agree.

This is just stupid and rather pointless, actually. Why bother creating a game series that uses the name of the film series and is "based on" it, but doesn't allow players to play/follow the storylines of the movies and is essentially its own universe? Why not simply create a Spider-man game universe that doesn't have to necessarily adhere to the events, designs, or characters of the films?

When I mentioned this before, people have said they're connecting these games to the films for "marketing purposes". I'm not sure what that means. Marketing for the movies to help them make more money? Or using the movie titles in the games so that the games make more money? Either way, we know it really doesn't work like that.

Look at the Batman Arkham game series. They have existed alongside the most recent Nolan Batman films, but have not needed to use "The Dark Knight" in any of the game titles, nor have they needed to follow or mimic the films at all. They have created a complicated, fully functional mythology that is continuing to grow and has lead to worldwide excitement. The release of each of the Arkham games is now an "event". They've essentially built their own brand that is very profitable for DC/WB and the game developers.

I'm not sure why Marvel/Sony/Beenox haven't thought to do the same for Spider-man yet. Instead, we're getting movie games that seem to be rushed along (at least the first one did) and that sort of follow the movies and sort of don't. It's weird.

It is all Activision. They don't have confidence in their properties. That's why they keep insisting on movie tie-ins. They don't believe a Spider-Man game can stand on its own. Even when we get a game not based on the movies, the game is still usually built around cheap marketing gimmicks ("Look! There are four Spider-Men in this game!" or "Look! A symbiote version of Wolverine is in this game and there is a whole city of symbiotes and goo!").

As for why this game isn't following the movie's storyline but is based on the same universe, I see that as Beenox's attempt at "cheating". Beenox presumably wants a comic book based game as much as us and tried to make something as close as possible to that given the universe they have to play with.

This is an entirely different topic altogether, but DC/WB should really push for more non-Batman games. With there being a huge demand for superheroes in gaming (and in general) and Marvel being stuck over at Activision, DC/WB has the chance to tap into a market that is almost practically untouched. Of course this also means they would have to put in the same amount of effort in those theoretical games as in the Batman Arkham games, but that goes without saying.

no marvels not with activision anymore hence the sell and the comicbook game rights taken

Well...they cant now. Acitivision only has the rights to the Spider-Man MOVIES, not the character in general. So this is them loop-holing the system so that they can make almost whatever Spider-Man game they want but without breaking contract.

As I said before, the biggest obstacle a developer has with Spider-Man after Activision is Spider-Man himself. Especially when it comes to the open world aspect.

The biggest obstacle was understanding that Peter Parker is Spider-Man and that we require proper Peter gameplay to truly feel like Spider-Man. Beenox finally understood that and added a Peter Parker aspect to the game. I just hope that aspect is not underwhelming.
