I don't see why Beenox just doesn't hire the writers behind "Spectacular Spider-Man" to pen the game. I bet they could come up with something truly phenomenal.

Also, whatever happened to the guy who was talking about designing his own webslinging mechanic? Did he ever post the video or at least follow up with it? I know he said Beenox was interested in taking a look. I'm curious to see how that all played out.

Why so naive? I see people like him every day, they're called trolls. No pic/No proof = it didn't happen. Doesnt matter how lame the excuse is.

Yeah, I feel like he was trolling. He had absolutely no proof whatsoever, no screenshots, no vids, no concept designs etc.

Anyways, after playing GTA V for quite a while, I am amazed by the amount of detail in that game. There's always stuff to do, even when you're not doing the missions. The map is HUGE and even the little side missions are great.
I'd love for R* to make a spidey game but that'll never happen. :(

Gah. I finished the story for GTA V and now the wait for GTA Online is killing me.

I'm in no rush to finish the GTA story for that exact reason. It's not like I'll be finishing it soon anyways (GTA IV took me a while). Funny how I usually beat Spider-Man games in about two or three days.

I need to add 2 more points.

4) Sucker Punch is owned by Sony, which seems fitting. Even movie-based games might be better due to that.

5) At least one person from Sucker Punch admitted to Spidey being his favorite (Billy Harper - Animation Director):

I think we found ourselves the ideal studio. :woot:
This would be so great.

If we're going to get an announcement, when do you guys think it'll be?

At NYCC. Specifically October 12th at the Marvel games panel.

If this isn't a cheeky confirmation of a game announcement, I don't know what is.

I hope it's actually good this time. Asm had it's moments but it was really lackluster and certain design choices were iffy. Why could we web rush into the sky??? Cloud swinging and the lack of actually building speed while web slinging. The lack of animations in the swinging...I could go on and on.

I wish they could go back to the SM2 controller scheme tbh. I liked walking and being able to run fast. I liked some of the combos we could do because they were fun to watch and had some cool animations that fit spidey. Spiderman needs to be more flamboyant almost like Dante from DMC.

And I love costumes but why is it that they never get special abilities that they had in the comic? I truly hope that they listened to the fan complaints and implemented them.

I hope you guys keep us updated on the announcement of a new Spider-Man game in this topic, I'll most likely not have the time to check everything out so I'd appreciate it if I could simply come on here to read everything about it. I have this topic bookmarked for several months now and check it almost daily.

Damn, it doesn't matter how disappointed I was in ASM and even didn't bother with Edge of Time, I'm still super excited about this. It's the same with every Spidey get that gets announced, even though I know it's more likely to be lackluster.

I hope this one doesn't have any robots (besides Rhino's mechanized suit). Speaking of which, I wonder how they'll explain the Rhino thing. They may just leave him out altogether.

^ They'll probably discard the previous game from this game's continuity altogether. It's a common theme in Spidey movie games to redo the same villains over and over again that weren't done in live-action.

Which is another lackluster aspect of a movie game. What's the point of tying a game so hard to a film if is just going to be discarded in 2 years?

That's why they shouldn't do movie games at all. There are so many more possibilities with a comic based game :(

Well they don't have to discard the first game at all, they'll simply label the cross-species Rhino a simple cross-species and not the actual Rhino from the movie. Or they expand upon the first movie game and create their own continuity with the villains from the movie sequel (like they create their own story that incorporates Electro etc.).

Rhino isn't the only thing they could contradict.

They don't have to discard the first game. But if they happen to have any ideas in the film that contradict the game, there is no way they won't proceed with those ideas just because it would contradict the game.

I see 3 possible ways of handling the new game:
- They scrap the first movie game and create another spin-off game that gets scrapped 2016 (when the 3rd one hits probably)
- They leave the first game be and simply try to incorporate it somehow (like Rhino being just a simple cross-species villain)
- They don't go for a direct movie tie-in and continue the story/universe they created in the first game (and try to incorporate the sequels villains with maybe their movie origins or a part of the movies storyline) leading into a somewhat Arkham style game series

I'm fine with all of them, even though I would prefer the first one because I absolutely hate apocalypse settings & robots in Spider-Man games (I hated WoS with a passion due to the apocalypse setting) and it would give them a somewhat clean slate to do it properly this time (even though I think that train is long gone).

My honest opinion? They should've done the origin story in TASM1 and then spin-off into their own universe (based on the movie universe) incorporating the villains from the movies in their own story as good as possible (I'm sure Sony etc. would have nothing against them crafting their own interpretation of the movie universe, I mean if they had they wouldn't have let them do TASM1 the way they did).

I know right. I was so hyped for ASM the game just like any Spider-man game and was left feeling flat. It was the whole "return to free roam" that got me feeling so high--such a shame it was wasted. It felt more like a linear game with this big open area to swing from one mission to the next. The city was missing that organic vibe and left no desire to play the game once I got the platinum.

This time though I'll be much more grounded and have less expectations.

And as far as Rhino goes...there's so much they could do to explain the change, if they even wanted to do that. In the last fight with him during the game, he simply disappears. It's very open ended.

I agree. But I was mostly disappointed in the combat (not nearly as fluid as I expected, even though the moves themselves looked great) and the boss fights (gnarling animal hybrids with no dialogue or robots, with very unimaginative fights). The only thing I liked alot was Alistair Smythe, I think he was very cool, and the Web Rush.

The combat def could use some polish but that's the least of my concerns. The biggest downer for me was the boring, inorganic, lackluster free roam. The web rush was a huge positive but the swinging fell short. The side missions were lame and the city events were lifeless. I also agree with you about the boss fights. It's like such a 180 from the boss encounters in both SD and EoT--you'd think Beenox had that part down fairly well to have it go south was a surprise. Though, I know there were some development issues with Sony/Marvel/Activision not agreeing on villains for the game; so that may have led to a shortened time frame to get those boss fights dialed in.

Yeah the free roam was definitely another let down.

While I haven't played EoT, I can tell from looking at videos that the Anti-Venom boss battle looks like the coolest one in any Spidey game. I had high expectations for the boss fights in ASM. I thought "Well, even if everything else would suck or be mediocre I can at least expect awesome boss fights!". How wrong I was.

Yeah, the anti-venom boss fights were awesome. The only one that was a letdown from EoT was the Black Cat boss fight. But yeah, I totally expected more from Beenox in that area with ASM.
