The turnout for the midnight was...okay. No where near a sell out, and it was one of the smaller crowds I have seen at a midnight show in a while. That's not to say it won't be big though, as it seemed like there was a lot of walk-up business for a midnight, and I would imagine that would continue this week. I just hope it makes enough for the sequel.

It's was a Monday night.

High box office sales would secure a sequel (even though that's already confirmed), and a deal between Sony and Marvel/Disney.

A deal would definitely be nice, but Sony could just take this film's success a way of showing that they're fine by themselves. Which isn't a good idea though.

I know the bottom line for big companies like Sony and Marvel/Disney is making money, but they should reach a deal that will bring Spider-man into the Avengers. Just for the fans to enjoy it.:woot:

Pretty hard to extrapolate from that number considering all the factors going into that opening.

It would be the first superhero movie to make over 7 m during midnights and not reach 300 m.

Is it significant that it made $7M on a Tuesday night? I would think it's harder to draw out crowds during the week, as opposed to the weekend, even in the summer.

7.5m is a solid midnight number, though Sony's spin of "It's the same as SM3" is an outright lie - SM3 made 10m from midnights on far fewer screens.

I think they were saying it was in the same range.

Which is fair.

Given how bad SM3 was, I don't think Sony would want ASM to follow in that movie's footsteps, anyway.

I doubt they'd have said the same if TASM scored 10.5m. :cwink:

But studios always spin and, given the expectations of some about this film's box office prospects, it's a decent enough number. It doesn't really tell us much about how it'll fare for the rest of the week, but it's got the ball rolling.

WB did the same thing when Superman Returns opened. Saying how it opened better than Batman Begins.

Whats happening at BO.com is quite amusing.

I wonder how the Batman reboot will be recieved.

I'm guessing more people will give it fair chance because Nolan wasn't fired from a Batman sequel.

I thought Raimi left on his own?

"Left" in the same way that Burton left. Both studios sent enough signals to the two guys that they did not want them to make another movie, so the directors just gave up. Raimi got further along with the process of developing another movie than Burton did, but ultimately it was the same scenario.

I wonder as well. I've seen quite a few people on the Bat forum here who seem to be interested in a proper (dark) version of Mr. Freeze. I think there is also a sense from the fanbase that Nolan is leaving on his own terms instead of being forced out, so there isn't really a reason to hang onto the past and have a closed mind about a future project.

It was a Monday, it's not the 4th yet....there are many reasons why it only made 7.5 and not more, imo.

I can't at some people acting like 7.5 million is anything other that great.

It's crazy. Can't believe how polarizing this franchise has turned out to be. Would have never expected it 5 years ago.

Its one of those cases where people who were against the movie even getting made had already decided it was going to be an awful failure without any evidence. Now that its well reviewed and seemingly financially successful they are trying to impose their 'righteousness' with a shouting match.
