IMAX 3D was awesome. Saw it twice in the format. To me, this is how Spider-Man should be seen.

Didn't see it in 3D, not really a big fan. Hugo is about the only 3D movie that really blew me away. Even Cameron's 3D is mediocre looking and uninteresting to me. Scorsese is the only person to really knock the ball out of the park.

I think the interesting numbers will be next weekend. And I don't think it's going to be good news for Sony.

Ice Age is obviously going to be a contender.

Agreed. I usually hate 3D, but the IMAX 3D on this was just subtle enough to enhance the immersion without ever drawing attention to itself. I already went back to see it in this format again, and I don't think for any subsequent viewings I'll even bother with any other format. IMAX 3D is the way to go on this one, imo.

I watched it in IMAX 3D and it's worth the price... If you go there on a Tuesday. It wasn't a "all up in your face" 3D movie. There were parts that stuck out, but the majority just blended in. My expectations were way too high as far as the 3D goes. Not a terrible job, but mediocre would well describe it. Action sequences were nice though, props to Webb for his first action movie. 6/10 as far as the 3D goes, that's generous.

I watched it in 3-d i thought it was okay kinda got blury for me in the action scenes and the swinging i kind of wished i would have watched it in 2-D first then 3-d but it still managed to enjoy it

You're forgetting overseas gross.
And we love us some Spidey on this side of the pond believe me ;)

Dennis Leary is set so regardless lol

Imax 3d all the away for this, though we dont call it Imax over here apparently but anywho. Seeing this for the fourth time this weekend

65 million for the weekend is kind of pedestrian for this type of film isn't it?

If it had actually opened on Friday, it would be a disappointing number for sure. But since it opened on a holiday during the week and has had several days in theaters before the weekend, not so much. That's a decent number. Not amazing, not bad.

...wow some of you really don't know much about the box office do you?

It's a great opening for a reboot.

It will make more than X-men First Class by day seven.

Is bringing an insult without an explanation supposed to help or something?

I think 250/400 is a fantastic split for a reboot, even with the 3-D spike and inflation. It obviously isn't going to break records but it is consistent with what we saw with The Incredible Hulk.

Reboots just aren't going to light a fire in audience anticipation. 650-700 WW is nothing to cry about. I expect some steep drops in the coming weekends, tracking no better than IM2 or worse. But still solid. I think they can squeeze out a solid trilogy out of this but unless they blow us out of the water Sony has long since hit its ceiling with Spidey IMO.

I think Marvel made the same mistake with the five year gap for the Hulk reboot. Why was TIH even neccessary??? What exactly did it set up? "We are putting a team together..." was pretty much the only thing that wet your mouth. Outside of that, it was another Banner/Ross chase movie. Imagine had they done a Hulk movie in 2013 with whomever was cast in Avengers. Marvel seemingly jumped the gun, but a Spidey reboot was obviously legitamized in order to extend Sony's rights.

The only question is will Sony get aggressive and desperate and try to work Spidey into a larger project. The Venom crossover (if you can even call it that) isn't enough. If they build to something like the Sinister Six or some type of major Marvel event, and then you may see Spidey do a fantastic number at the box office again.
