I honestly would just like to see Spidey's reaction to a team of heroes that are like him, since he'd always consider himself alone in that realm in the movieverse until it happened.

I hope this gets to at least 250 Million here in the USA

I think it will now. Now form what I've seen and heard, I think this film is getting a good response from audiences. It's a shame TDKR is coming out this month, because if it didn't, this might have been able to make more.

and yet by the critic reviews, TASM is below the MCU films except TIH, which is about where I would put it.

If you're saying that Spider-man has more earning potential than Captain America, well hello Captain Obvious. Last time I checked the first three movies made over a billion.

On RT there are mostly about 40 Top Critics reviews. According to top critic rating, TASM is better than SM3, IM 2, Thor, X-M:FC

SM 3

Three movies, Iron man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor combined box office against B.O. of TASM ? What ?

Its been reported to have around a $22-23 million Wednesday.

Sony should have released TASM in June, or they could have swapped the release dates for MIB 3 with TASM

Spidey has a good history with the Fourth of July.
That is probably what Sony was thinking .

Well, it's got all week to do what it needs. A lot of people honestly don't go to the movies until the weekend regardless of holidays.

That's horrible if true. Transformers bumped up from 27M to 29M on the 4th. Maybe audiences aren't so hooked on this as we might have thought.

I would be curious to know how much SM2 took in on The Fourth of July, the actual day not just the weekend itself .
Anybody know?

WTF are you talking about? TASM probably has a chance to beat IM2 box office wise, and it should beat the others. It's freaking spider-man, they could show two hours of spiders mating on film, and attach the name spider-man on it and it would make 200M.

It's a good movie not a great movie, probably a bit better than TIH, not as good as Thor IMO.

hard to compare because the 4th was on a Sunday that year, so it had nearly a full week run before the 4th came around. The closest comparison you can made is Transformers which went up.

I was expecting 30M worst case, if it's 23 M that's a 44% drop.

If we assume that TASM will earn about 700ME world wide then we've 4 spiderman movies grossing 3.2 billion world wide

The 5 individual marvel movie have 2.2 Billion world wide combined

My point being, that if they concentrate on finding the right plot for the sequel rather than trying to link him to avengers then TASM2 will gross over 1 billion easily.Spiderman doesnt need the avengers to earn itself money

As an individual he has enough potential to do that.I wont mind a small cameo but a full fledged role is a strict no no for me

For me, it's the other way around. I found TASM to be better than Thor, Captain America and (in some aspects) Iron Man 2. TIH, in my opinion though, was superior to those four films mentioned.

As for the drop, I kinda expected it for two reasons (July 4th and the word-of-mouth).

It's completely surreal to me that Iron Man is now the most popular Marvel superhero in America at the moment.

I tried to buy my ticket on Fandango on my phone Tuesday night for the 3D showing and it told me it was sold out, I called my local theater just to verify and she told me that it was a mistake and only 2% of the tickets for that showing were sold for that time. It wasn't like it was a 9 o clock showing so this kind of took me by surprise.

When we got to the theater, we waited in a line (one of many set up for the different showings) and we were the first ones for our screening...surprisingly, there was no line as someone walking by us had told us they were already letting people in. There weren't many people in the theater. Less than 30 if I had to make a rough estimate...now obviously this was just one night and of course, the day before 4th of July but I was kind of shocked at the small amount of people in my screening. I wonder how crowded that theater's midnight screening was.

I certainly hope my experience wasn't like many other people's and a sign for the box office.

I guess we'll find out if Wednesday was an anomaly, but at the moment, 300M is in question where yesterday it was a distinct possibility. There's not alot of historical data where a film's second day is the 4th of July, but really it should have gone up or stayed flat going by what TF1 did.

Well, since you did not make it clear which three movies you were referring to, I thought that you were talking about first three Marvel movies (Iron man, TIH and Thor) and I was not thinking about the Raimi's Spider-man trilogy.

Yes, Spider-man is very popular character and just name will draw in a lot of people, but after a few days people will realize about the quality of the movie and then B.O. numbers will drop. (Look at Green Lantern which opened reasonably well at 53 mil. opening week but then the B.O. numbers dropped.) Just name is not enough to make 200 mil.

TASM is doing well as it is a good movie even if you take a look at the Top critics score of RT meter, it is more than SM 3, IM 2, TIH and X-Men FC.

Finally, You need to cool down. :cwink:

This **** is making money hand and foot, and some of you are acting like it is in someway disappointing. I can't even understand...

Anyway:
According to Sony Pictures, The Amazing Spider-Man took in $23.4 million yesterday to bring its two-day total to $59.2 million, at the same time increasing their opening day box office estimate to $35.8 million.
That's a 35% day-to-day drop (or 17% if you remove the midnight screenings) but it's also the second-highest daily gross for a movie playing on the 4th of July.

By comparison, Michael Bay's Transformers actually increased to make $29.1 million five years ago, setting a 4th of July record, while Spider-Man 2 made $22 million on 4th of July in 2004, although that was its fourth day in theaters.

Sony have also upped their internal estimate for the movie's first six days to $120 to 130 million or more.

Biggest example of what name give you only = Harry Potter and TDH p2, broke opening day record, big drop on fri- > sunday.

what i notice is when someone is disapointed with this movie they speak out saying its terrible then someone else says what? is it that bad? i aint seeing this movie then:whatever:

Basically anything huge not making Avengers-type money is being viewed as a failure for some reason.
