Hi i have just read my first ever spider-man comic and thought it was absolutely brilliant.

I just started this thread so we could discuss it.

First of all, as this was my first spider-man i had not heard of any of the characters that weren't in the movies. Therefore, i didn't know much about Morlin, why does he need to take people to keep himself alive?

Morlun made his debut in that story. There was never a mention of him before hand. Any information you got about him in that story is all your gonna get. All we basically know is that to stay alive he needs to "eat" other people who have those animal trait kind of powers. He needs to eat from each group or something to that extent. I think thats what it was.

Coming Home is JMS best story. It went downhill slowly after that. But that storyline was beautiful. I loved it.

Come on... It didn't go downhill till "Sins Past" (Vol. 8) which is why it wasn't on the reading list I posted. The title rebounded again for the "New Avengers" (Vol. 10).

If you liked "Coming Home" do yourself a favor and get ASM Vols. 2-7 and 10. He gets back together with MJ... great story.

After that SKIP anything with "House of M" and "The Other" in the title. Trust me... there are far better stories to read.

I never said it got bad after Coming Home. It's just that none of his work after that matched this story in my eyes. Hence, it slowly going down hill. "Coming Home" was an amazing story in my eyes, I truely loved it. I like some of the other stories such as the "Hydra" arc and so on. But nothing matched Coming Home.

Thank You for your reply which cleared up what i didn't understand.

i agree.
in trying to catch up with JMS stories, so far i agree Coming Home has been the best. i've yet to see something from him as good.

Personally, I think the reason JMS' stories went downhill is because John Romita Jr left the book right before Sins Past! LOL just joking but its something to think about I guess.

Coming Home was one of the greatest Spider-Man arcs in recent years and there have been a few more decent arcs under JMS' tenure but the bad outweighs the good and that's what people will unfortunately remember about JMS when all is said and done.

If only the man had stayed at that quality level...sigh.

There is a huge difference between making your readers go "wow!" and TRYING to make them go "wow!" The first applied to everything pre-Sins and the second to everything after that minus Hydra.
