TMOB: Did his touch really "burn" people?

I thought he just used his sticky Spider-Powers and basically scarred people's faces by ripping the skin off their faces while using his "stick" powers?

That would make more sense to me...

TMOB, why are you always talkiing about "burning and sticky"...:cwink:

BecauseI just lose it when I think of my the Man-Thing... :woot: :woot: :woot:

:csad:

LOL....i always pictured you more of a SwampThing kinda guy/fan.

:yay:

Speaking of those two...how'd they ever get away with having two characters so obviously similar???

I like my muck monsters... though I'm more partial to the Man-Thing.

Beleive it or not, both characters aoppeared one month apart in 1972, with Marvel's Man-Thing appearing first in May in Stange Adventures Magazine #1 (or something called that), while Swamp Thing appeared in June in House of Secrets #92... though oddly enough, the Man-Thing is usually the guy that gets the "rip-off" status... :cmad:

:yay:

I wish Marvel would make a Man-Thing on-going... :o

Wow...i didn't know Man-Thing came out first!

THanks for the info!

( i think i have an issue of MArvel Team-Up with him in it!)

Remember "Hey, wanna see my Giant Size Man Thing" is not a good pickup line.

That's how I always saw it, too. Can't remember when/where, but I'm pretty sure this is how it was explained in the comics, too.

I thought they said it was corrosive or something in the issues, but I could be wrong.

Mike Ploog is the &^$%*&ing MAN!!!! :word: :word: :word:

Not sure how many old timers were Planet of the Apes fans back in the day, but does anyone remember the Planet of the Apes magazine Marvel put out in the 70's? It had articles and comic adaptations of the movies. But it also had a cool original comic that Ploog drew that was pretty awesome!

"Ploog" is just an outright cool name too.

It is like the sound effect for dropping a baby rabbit into a sink full of applesauce.

Planet of the Apes was considered old when I was a kid, and I'm 30 now...I do recall seeing the first film and my dad telling me about all the sequels and comics and tie ins they had

That's a perfect description, because I can just so visualize it with the soundeffect...

I think the last things I've seen Mike Ploog draw was the art for the Abadazad books written by JM DeMatties circa 2006... really good stuff there. (art & story)

Yep... I had some of those comics as a kid... I had a LOT of Marvel's weird horror/sci-fi/monster books... and a LOT of them had Mike Ploog covers/interiors.

:yay:

I wish I still had them now... :o

I think he did the illustrations for the novel versons that JMD did for Disney. Alas, i didnt read those. Also, after Abadazad, he worked with JMD on Stardust Kid, i miniseires by Image I believe. Pretty good and in teh same vain as Abadazad.

Well, if you're 30 now, I wouldn't expect you to remember a whole lot form the 70's. :oldrazz:

Planet of the Apes was my Star Wars before Star Wars! There was a big POTA craze in the early to mid 70's (though not as big as Star Wars though). I had the Mego action figures.

To be clear, Marvel put out a POTA magazine that included the Ploog original Apes comics. Marvel later put out a comic book, which were colored reprints of the movie adaptations, not the Ploog stuff.

I also have a Werewolf By Night done by Ploog.

I had to try a wide variety of animals and sauces/condements the other nite to find the perfect "Ploog" sound analogy. :cwink:

Just so y'all know in the ASM issue that's coming out on Friday Peter describes Kaine's touch as burning (not as using any kind of stickiness)

Also, I googled Kaine and the 3 sites I checked all said it was a burning touch that evolved from the stickiness.

From "The Life of Reilly":
Second, all of Kaine's powers were enhanced versions of Peter's powers. It was well established in the stories that Kaine was physically stronger than Peter, and he was clearly much taller and more massive. But the infamous "mark of Kaine" burn that he left on the faces of his victims was just a greatly enhanced version of the "stick-to-walls" ability that Peter possesses in his hands and feet. And the "future visions" that Kaine experienced from time to time, including the relentless vision of Mary Jane's death, was simply a much stronger version of Peter's spider sense.
Source

They DO use the word "burn", but I think it's meant more of a "scarring", because Peter's "stick-to-walls" ability has nothing to do with temperature, and this is an enhanced version of this.

Also, remember that Peter himself kinda did a pseudo-MoK on Norman in ASM #598:
