I think I'm one of the few people who really liked the tone ASM had, as well.

It was kinda sad to see ASM2 stray so far from the first movie in terms of tone, almost as if it'd forgotten where it came from.

I hope we'll get a mix of the two in ASM3.

From what i've heard, i really think that every Spider-man movie should be like this movie, regarding the tone. It depicts very well Peter Parker's life. One moment he is sad because his girlfriend dumped him or whatever and the next one he has to put on the suit and be the witty superhero that everyone aspires to. Maybe the editing could have been better, but i think i'm gonna like the tone of the movie. Have you seen the movie again?

Saw it yesterday and just like the 1st one, just didn't click for me. Dunno what it is, they have a better looking Spider-man and Peter Parker, but i just cant seem to click with the reboot. Doubt i'm gonna see the 3rd one at the cinema now, unless something about it really clicks with me in the trailers.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I do like the tone in ASM2, mostly. I don't really know how else to put this, but at times, it felt a little too "clean", for my preference.

You should probably actually see the movie, yourself, before making up your mind. I, myself, thought the tone looked perfect when I watched the trailers and everything, but having actually seen the movie now, it did feel a little too "clean" for me, like I said.

And, no, I haven't seen the movie again. :csad:

Not sure why that would be an issue

I guess i'll see. There are quite a few people that thought the tone was consistent for the most part, though.

For the most part yes, but there are a few weird cuts here and there. You will probably notice them.

But again, I really, really like the movie, I consider it an 8.5/10, so don't get me wrong. :)

Yeah, i know you liked it. I want to ask you though about one of the gripes you had with the movie. You said that the Goblin's origin felt a bit rushed. Did you mean that his motivations weren't very clear or that his screen time was very little? Because, from what i've heard, Harry's character was developed throughout the whole film and you really needed to pay attention in order to understand where he was coming from.

Do you think TASM2 is better or equal to IM2? Or worse?

Funny thing with Iron Man 2 is that I actually enjoy it more now that the Avengers is out and phase one is complete. I wonder if TASM2 will be the same for me once the story arcs are wrapped up and the S6 film is done with.

Don't get me wrong, I find Iron Man 2 very entertaining (especially Justin Hammer). But it's a bit of an unfocused mess. I'd apply the same sentiments to Amazing 2.

SPOILERS LIKE A MOTHERF***R:

Hm... I do think Harry's motives were pretty clear. The guy was dying, he needed Spidey's blood to survive, buuuuut... Spidey wouldn't give it to him.

Harry got desperate, took Menken as hostage, gets injected with spider formula, spider formula reacts weird with his blood, and we have the Green Goblin.

Harry still didn't know the formula was actually working (it sure as hell didn't look like it), so he went after Spidey to get his blood by force and/or kill him. Again, Harry was really desperate.

So, I do find Harry's arc pretty good, but once he arrived at the power grid with his glider, I'm telling ya, he'd gone FULL Goblin. Now, the Spider formula obviously does weird stuff to people, but I still think it felt a little quick for Harry to go, well, full Goblin.

That actually sounds pretty good, thank you. I guess we will see him in future sequels, but a character's little screen time is the price that you have to pay when you build a universe.

No problem.

Yeah, I hope so. :)

I saw this last night, a few weeks ago I was really excited, but then some of the bad reviews came in so that was tempered and I enjoyed, but I can see were the bad reviews are coming from. The movie is all over the place a lot of the time, and cant seem to decide what type of film it wants to be. Yet it is enjoyable as hell.

Garfield, Stone and DeHaan are superb in this movie, they all give really good performances, Sally Field is good as Aunt May, and Jamie Foxx was a mixed bag. Sometimes, he was GREAT as Electro, other times I just got a WTF reaction. But I liked him much more in the 2nd half of the movie thats for sure.

The action was okay, but not the huge improvement over the 1st movie I was hoping for, and nothing in this even gets near the train fight in SM2 for excitement or action spectacle. A lot of the fights were like the ones in the MCU movies were they stop just as they are getting going. And again, nothing in the movie improves on what we have had before, with the exception of the web-swinging.

The humour was mostly great and often well used in the movie, and it had some heart, you felt for the characters which is always a good thing.

Peter and Gwen's relationship often saves the movie, as does the Peter and Harry friendship which should have gotten more time, and THAT scene is a heartbreaker, I certainly had a tear in my eye. But other stuff slows it down too much, like Peter's parents or Harry's attempt to take control of Oscorp. Also, the setting up of future movies got too much sometimes, it was cool getting Felicia and Smyth, but they added nothing to the movie.

Rhino was a good addition, though as a 616 fan I still dont like how he is a suit of armour. Overall I am just not into this series as much as I was the Raimi one, and the old franchise is still on top as the Spider-Man franchise of choice for me.

TASM 2 seems to take 2 steps forward and one step back from TASM, it doesnt address enough of the problems I had with the 1st movie, and for that reason something about TASM 2 just still felt off for me. But when TASM 2 is good, its REALLY good, the last 30-45 mins especially are really good stuff.

I am giving the movie 8/10 for in the hope it will improve on a 2nd viewing, really its more of a 7.5/10 at the moment. But TASM grew on me a lot after a few re-watches, so I am hoping the sequel will do the same.

Good review, man.

Pretty much reflects my initial impressions with the movie, which however, have grown much more positive over the last few days. :)

Hi! In my 'review' of this film, I stated that I wouldn't post much more in this section because I don't want to ruin the fun for those who enjoy the film. However, as I love to discuss things I'm passionate about, such as Spider-Man (wow that sounded pretty sad), I'd like to take that back. Not because of a need to rant, but because discussions in general are good. I'd like to be able to discuss both what I liked and what I didn't like. As much as I agree with the opinion that this is a Transformers 2 of Spider-Man, I'm open to the fact that there's always the possibility of my opinion to change. I just don't want you to think I'm a hater because I truly wanted to like this film, and I respect those who do. Peace

So glad to read this Oscorp! I was worried that after your reaction from seeing the movie you wouldn't be on the boards anymore and imo that would suck. I still got 2 weeks to go before I can see the movie and the wait isn't so bad but the frustrating part is I can't join the conversations. And since the movie seems to be very polarizing I've no idea where I'm gonna end up with this thing. But even if I end up loving the film it'll still be fun to talk about the movie and not just with those that love it.

One thing I've noticed is people criticising Rhino in the movie. I thought they got it pretty perfect actually, especially with how he fits into the ending.

If they hadn't put that final shot in the trailer I would have walked out more amazed though.

Sony marketed the rhino to look like a mid film villain so some may think what the hell when there wasn't an actually battle but it works in context

Good review, man.

Thanks

I am much more positive today about it after thinking about the movie today, last night immediatly after seeing it I was very mixed. But with thinking about it more my reaction has gone more positive. I will be seeing the movie again to see if it grows on me like the 1st TASM did, I really didnt like that movie at first. So already the sequel is starting on a better note.

This seems to be a pretty common thought process for most, well at least the ones that have enjoyed the movie. Their rating goes up awhile after seeing the movie or even after a second viewing.

Yeah reading through the thread it seems many people have to give it some thought before realising how much the enjoyed it. Maybe its because of how many things are going on in the movie.

That's very nice to hear.

I think the thing with The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is that there's a LOT to take in. There's action, there's a love story, there's betrayal, and last but not least, there's that certain scene.

When I first walked out the theatre, I really didn't feel very much at all - I actually felt kinda emtpy. But damn, the when I was laying in my bed the night after, it all kinda came back to me at once, and the feels hit me.

I had a VERY similar experience, I seemed to just forget the movie straight after, but today in work (rather than in bed, I was too tired to lay awake) was when things started coming back to me and my reaction to the movie became a lot more positive.

Sounds legit. Just as Spidey K mentioned, there appears to be a ton of stuff in the film and it takes some time for all of it to finally register. I'm betting the pacing has something to do with this...no time for things to totally sink in.

I don't understand the there's a lot going on criticism. The plot flows well and it isn't hard at all to understand.

Would you guys say you need to be already invested in the relationship from TASM or does the movie itself get people to be invested in the relationship?
