Interesting. Weird that they didn't put Uncanny X-Men in with what Fraction writes though, considering that's still the headlining book of a pretty sizeable chunk of the MU.

Don't care. That's just more of Marvel's marketing jargon. A fresh-faced newb could crank out a better story than any of those dudes, and many less established writers have done just that.

This would be exciting if they we're doing a 52-esque book all those writers. I mean we already know who the top writers practically are. DC has Johns & Morrison, Marvel has Bru and Bendis.

I wouldn't say that so quickly about Brubaker. I'm sure many would disagree about Hickman (I haven't read a lot by him myself....)

I would trade Bendis for Johns in a heartbeat. Not since when Geoff was on the Avengers they WERE the Avengers.

But anyway, the 2 things that jump out to me are Fraction doing an event, which means it will be 18 parts and surely have delays like every other event Marvel does. Also Brubaker's "secret" new series that I'm guessing is a Bucky ongoing (or an attempt at one).

Brubaker is good, but he's far from flawless. Hickman, either. But that's besides the point: some newbie could still potentially write a better story than either of them. How long you've been writing and your name's weight within the industry doesn't really matter to me; if you crank out great stories, I'll enjoy them.

I don't think there's ever been any writer that was consistently good for his/her whole career. If I was to give you one, it would be Peter David. I can't remember the last time I read anything by him that sucked.

I haven't always been a fan of David's work, but I can't recall any specifics at the moment. Joe Kelly's probably the closest to a flawless writer for me, especially in the indie arena.

Garth Ennis is another. I've enjoyed everything the guy has ever done.

I've gotten sick of Ennis' style at times. He tends to run the same themes into the ground over and over, altering only the level of pure absurdity in the presentation.

Not included: Dan Slott, because we all know ASM doesn't count as part of the real MU

(sorry, couldn't resist)

lulz, I don't know, I haven't read any of Slott's ASM work. His other stuff is usually pretty good, although I've found a few of his arcs underwhelming.

As in religious themes style? I could understand somebody getting tired of that, it's the reason Preacher can't get off the ground. HBO is even afraid to touch it. I'm not sure I get the absurdity comment.

Religious themes, superheroes being hypocritical, over-the-top violence (if you can call that a theme--I'm pretty sure Ennis and Tarantino would), etc.

The absurdity comment is exactly what it sounds like. The Punisher: grim-n'-gritty dude makes some decent superheroes look like fools (Daredevil and Spider-Man, in "Welcome Back, Frank"). The Boys: a whole series constructed around a group whose sole purpose is making a bunch of lawless, insanely depraved 'superheroes' look like fools. There's more going on in both works, obviously, but Ennis covers the same ground in new configurations quite a bit and I tend to get tired of it.

The Boys is a little more deeper than making "supes" look like fools. There were cases early during the book's run when this was true but in the latter part of it's life everybody's got their own agenda.

Alex Maleev is drawing it. :) Warren Ellis commented that he needs to do more Marvel work to outcrazy Bendis' upcoming Moon Knight, since it would heavily deal with the split personalities for example.

That was one of the things I got tired of Ennis' usual tropes in, so I dropped it shortly after the Dynamite move. I'd been buying but not reading issues for a few months before that, so I figured it was time to cut it loose.

Even though I know you hate Spider-Man now, I noticed that too. And it bothers me that he's not in the group. ASM is the core Spider-Man book and he's at the helm of it now. He should be in the mix there.

It definitely was a slowwww build up/reveal of everyone's motivations, I'll give you that.

Nice. I'll have to give this a chance, based on his work on Daredevil. He's at his best with single character street level stories, so this has some real potential. At the very least it'll give Moon Knight more exposure because of his name attached to it.

Definatly! I know people are very mixed with his current Avengers work, but Ultimate Spidey kicks ass, and even tho its been years since hes written stuff like DD, he still shines and should be given creative freedom. I really hope he goes for the split personality stuff, he did that alot for the Ultimate Moon Knight, it would definatly be intriquing to say the least, oh and definatly the religious themes and his military past.

NO, people have been mixed with ALL of his Avengers work. The only things by Bendis that people across the board have liked is Alias, Powers and DD. They all have something in common, so I would think Moon Knight has a shot at being good.

I think that Slott is not part of the mix is because he is unable to write more than two books at a time. And now that Amazing Spider-Man comes out twice a month with him being the sole writer, I don't think we'll be seeing Slott writing more than one book a month now.

I'm not knocking Slott's capabilities. Hell, I praise the man for realising his limits and staying within them so he can deliver top notch quality. But with him not taking part in creating the general direction of the Marvel universe with Bendis, Fraction, Brubaker, Quesada, Loeb, etc. and only writing one book as opposed to multiple books that the so called Architects are capable of is probably what prevents him from joining the so called elite club.

Is there anything i should check out? I was quite fond of Secret Invasion, but that was mainly due to Leinil Francis' art, but i mean gosh i loved Dark Avengers and i'm so happy to see a big HC coming out that includes all 16 issues + annual, but darn was the Osborn becoming Director of a new organization incredibly forced, but are there any New Avenger trades for example worth checking out? I also read SIEGE, which had some flaws but was overall pretty nice enough for my tastes.

I haven't been crazy about a lot of his New Avengers vol 1 stuff. He was up and down a lot. The Pulse was a direct spin off of Alias and featured most of The Daily Bugle staffers and was well received. All that's left is the Ultimate stuff after that....
