I think if you're Atheist you shouldn't be able to celebrate holidays like Christmas ....
:funny:

Love you man.... but you're just mad cause anyone and everyone has (not surprisingly) used the national holiday to mean whatever they want it to mean. And that kills you.

Regardless of their religion, their belief, or not. And everyone does it; jews, hindus, buddhists, atheist, everyone, and they don't believe in your god.
Indifferent to how the date supposedly connects (and it doesn't), they've just filled the holiday with fun tradition, imagery, gifts, customs, and whimsical elements, that have absolutely NOTHING to do with anything in the bible, never have and never will.

They celebrate with love, for family, friends, and all humanity no matter their belief.
And that's what makes it a fun holiday for everyone!:yay:

You instead are like the grinch saying - well they shouldn't be allowed to celebrate-, wanting to control who gets to celebrate and how, you'll probably be fuming with your self righteous anger and bitterness all season.

Merry xmas

(just half joking:cwink:)

edit: moved in case anyone wanted to quote

Nobody needs anybody's permission to celebrate Christmas.

Or Festivus. So Nick Nitro if you wanna celebrate Festivus with us that's cool too. :o

I have to say, Christmas lost all appeal to me once I hit adulthood.

Now it's just a yearly nuisance. Have to buy people gifts, send cards, listen to those god awful 20th century Christmas songs...

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the classics, but God damn do I hate those modern ones. If I have a time machine, first I'm stopping Hitler, then I'm stopping Andy Williams. Actually, making Hitler listen to that song wouldn't be bad punishment.

Guys it was a joke..........jeeeeeeeeeeeesh

Ahh Thunder cmon....I actually love watching my family open my gifts I get them. I'd rather do that all day then get gifts.

Have any of you had difficulty getting dates because of your atheism?

My roommate and very good friend in Atheist and I can see from him that it's kind of hard. He can't talk about politics or religion with a woman for a while because if they don't see his way it really bugs him. I feel bad for him.

Well, people are bound to disagree somewhat...

But I could never be with a super religious person. That usually comes up on the first date.

I'm the other way. I dont mind a woman being religious, as long as she can deal with my non-belief. The last woman that I tried to date practiced an African religion called Ifa. I thought it was interesting at least and she didn't mind my atheism.

She was from Chicago, so she was more liberal than most women I meet. Now I'm back in the far suburbs where everyone is religious. :csad:

Well, you're bound to meet someone who isn't super religious. Statistically.

Atheism is kind of a sausage fest though.

But there are plenty of people with non-extreme views out there.

My parents raised me honestly the best and the way I'll raise my children one day.

My mom always told me, you'll be raised Catholic, you'll go through everything, but if you want to venture away from Catholicism that's fine. As long as I'm happy they wouldn't judge me.

Boy, that sounds rather... unnerving.

I checked out a dating site for atheists and you're right, it was overwhelmingly male.

I wonder why that is.

I've read a fair few theories. There's social, and psychological reasons.

Women in general go more for spiritually, while men go more for objectivity (or what they view as objective, anyway).

Emotion vs reason, etc. Still causes a **** storm of controversy, but the numbers bear it out.

Women on average are also more religious, and devout.

Makes the fact that almost all our religions are super patriarchal kind of ironic.

As a child honestly it wasn't a gigantic deal. I went through all the motions, but when I got older she told me, if Catholicism wasn't my thing then that's fine. Growing up in a Northern Italian family that's pretty unheard of. And I think really progressive and understanding on my parents part.

Ironically, if my folks hadn't sent me to Catholic school, I might still be religious.

I mean, my faith still might have been done in, but that school sped it along exponentially.

I find it interesting how many vehement atheists are from Catholic background. George Carlin, for example.
