The Atheism Thread - Part 6

I can send a message off to C Lee or CC and see what happens but I doubt they'll change their mind over it right away.
The other thread is closed for the moment. If people on both sides can show that they can act like a reasonable adult...it will be reopened. So far people are not impressing me.

I doubt it, because the remit of this thread is wide enough to permit on-topic debate while also allowing us to hand the Christians' asses to them.

Posts like this 'add' to the value of the thread? The JCWorship Thread is a pro-Christian thread. I've told several posters, including Marvolo and others to take religious discussion into other threads. Several moderators have as well.

There is no value in Biblical scripture, but troll post which is just a religious bash..."add value"

It's fine having a Christian thread imo. But no matter what the bible says or what your religious beliefs are this site can't allow hate and bigotry like the kind that was in that thread. Comparing homosexuality to bestiality is going over a line. This site has many different people of differing ideas and it welcomes New people all the time. Do we want that kind of bigotry on display for new members to see? Open the thread but ban discussion of homosexuality and gay marriage in the thread and problem solved.

You have abandoned grammar- are you speaking in tongues?

I generally stay out of these type of threads....because I would like to BAN JUST ABOUT EVERYONE WHO POST IN EITHER OF THEM.

Why would I want to do that you may ask.....Because of posts like that one right there.

BOTH SIDES are being rude offensive children. Why the hell can't either side just leave the other side alone? Why do both sides have to constantly attack insult and belittle the other one? It makes neither side look good or superior. It makes both sides look like pathetic little whiney kids.

Grow up everyone....if you spent as much time feeding the hungry or getting medical attention to the people who needed as you do trying to insult the other side into seeing your view....this would be a lot better world.

Atheists enter a Christian worship thread with 'why do you hate gays?' troll bait...Christians politely respond with Biblical scripture and then they are accused them of gay bashing? There are hundreds of other threads to discuss homosexuality if that's your fancy. Hundreds. Frankly, the Christians posters should have also stayed on message and ignored it, but why does entire thread get closed because of that?

BTW - I'm on thread probation because I've been told personally 'my Christian zeal' pisses people off. I can't really carry out your suggestion. Maybe you and other logically consistent free thinker posters can assist me in this endeavor.
Agree with you. The "gay" topic is a topic covered in the Bible so it is a Christian topic and should definitely be in a Christian thread if a Christian or non Christian wanted to talk about the subject. Nonetheless, there are decent posters on both sides, too, but the ugliness often takes over.

OK, we agree, but want to just note:
There are other religious discussion threads. I've bumped them up for others per request to avoid trolling in the JCAW Thread. The JCAW Thread is an appreciation thread....no different then appreciation threads in Celebrity forum. Not every thread has to devolve into bashing and debating. Christians shouldn't be forced to discuss homosexuality, this or that...if they don't want to...if they want to just focus on Christ and Him alone...that should be allowed, in my opinion. I think respectful people can agree that is reasonable.

Note that I mentioned a religious thread and not specifically the JCAW thread. That said, I think any topic can be applied in the appreciation thread just for the fact that I respect ALL of the Bible's teachings. And I'm not sure who you're referring to when you mentioned Christians should be forced to discuss this or that. Christians shouldn't be forced to discuss any topic if they don't want to.

Discussing it in a civil manner is perfectly fine. But when you get a poster like The Harvest who compares it to bestiality that is when problems arise. If both sides of the aisle agree that that sort of bigotry is wrong then I see no reason why we a can't get along.

And let's be clear, no one forced the Christians of these boards to discuss homosexuality. It was brought up by a Christian and another Christian made a degrading comment about gays which led to the arguments.

And there were some posters claiming some people were lesser Christians than others. That sort of behavior is just baiting a fight. There are many denominations and ways of approaching Christianity. Turning faith into a competition is pointless.

I'd have to re-read the comment The Harvest made but I know he was really trying to speak the truth. Even if he "perhaps" said something that "may" have been wrong, who is perfect?

And did I say that somebody forced Christians to these boards to discuss a specific subject? I'm well aware nobody forced anybody into anything!

That's perfectly reasonable, but you know, no one is "forced" to discuss anything. If people are talking about something you don't want to talk about in an appreciation thread, ignore them or report them if they're trolling.

Also, there's no need to spam this thread with things that aren't intended to be a discussion. Spamming this thread won't bring the other thread back.

No one is forced to discuss anything, but you're suppose to keep discussion with in scope of the subject matter.

I post Biblical scripture in the JCAW thread all the time and I was told this thread can handle everything discussed in that thread. It seems to upset people so I've stopped. The matter is now in process of being resolved.

The Harvest was banned for comparing homosexuality to bestiality. There is no perhaps about it. That's what happened and he was not speaking truth. That is hate and bigotry.

And that is all I'm gonna say on this matter. You know where I stand. I know where you stand on the matter. Let's leave it at that.

Alright then.

This thread can handle debate and discussion. Just posting scripture isn't providing discussion or debate. We aren't upset because it's scripture. We are upset because it's just spamming up the thread. We'd have equal issue if you were just posting lots of quotes from any book or movie.

Here you go. Straight from a mod:

I am reading through the stuff now, Harvest was banned for likening homosexuality and homosexual marriage to bestiality and pedophilia.

And I'd appreciate it if you'd stop biting my head off. The exclamations aren't necessary.

The Harvest sounds like an unpleasant individual. Good riddance.

Wow! You're actually accusing me of biting your head off despite the manner you're using with me, no wonder you've been involved in arguments with others on the religious side of things. Now show me where The Harvest, not a mod, said what you accused him of saying. I want to read it in his own words.

edit: the exclamation marks are sometimes accidental, don't always mean to use them.

Why are you demanding this from him? He's being very polite. Go to the "banned members" thread and ask about the Harvest. He's banned. That's how it is.

NO ONE forces ANYONE on here to discuss anything.

Someone brings up a topic you don't want or like to discuss....here's a bit of hard to understand advice for you....DON'T DISCUSS IT!!!

You are not required to discuss anything. You are not required to reply to anything. You are not required to do any thing at all except to be civil.

For what it's worth I do agree The Harvest's posts were inappropriate and require attention from mods. It's one thing to voice your opinion on a subject passionately, but accusing others of having 'limited knowledge of the Bible' and sarcastic responses is inappropriate. Attacking the person's knowledge of and claims of sincerity repeatedly is inappropriate. We all fall from time to time in the heat of moment, but try address the subject matter and not the person.
