The Batman comics recommendation thread!

Since there currently are a lot of people, getting familiar with the Batman comics. We see a lot of threads popping up, with questions about what books they should purchase.
I think it might be a good idea to make one general thread were the batfans can post there own recommendations of comics, paperbacks, collected edition, hard covers.
So remember this is for comic material only with an exeption on books about Batman ,no merchandise!
Also try and recomend some loose comics for example: Legends of the Dark Knight #50. Or Shadow of The Bat #1, #2, #3.
I'll kick this off in the next post.
And I'll reserve the next two, for a summarize of all the recommendations!

For first timers, here's a short introduction:
Who's who?
The Batman
And
Wikipedia
Here's a list of some Batman series.

If you haven't read anything about Batman get atleast these five books:
1. Batman Year One
2. The Long Halloween
3. Dark Victory
4. The Dark Knight Returns
5. The Killing Joke

Shh's top three:

Here you can find a list of the most common Batman Graphic Novels.

Here you can find a lot of info about the various Batman series.

The Best Batman Books according to Amazon.com

I'd like to recommend this little gem:
JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE NEW FRONTIER SPECIAL

And if you get the chance to buy some Grant & Breyfogle back issues, don't hesitate. You'll love 'em.

Now both threads should be made sticky.

I'm currently reading Batman #84 from 1954. I like it because it's just like the 60s series. You can read it here

Great little story, and Mignola's Sanctum was actually his first 'Hellboy' story.

I would also like to recommend 'Dark Knight, Dark City'. Easily one of the best Riddler stories ever written and ties into Morrison's current run with the whole Barbathos myth.

Batman: Dark Knight, Dark City (Batman # 452-454) - Peter Milligan/ Kieron Dwyer

Can anybody recommend the best Batman comics with Two-Face in them? I've read The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, and I'm craving more Two-Face!!

Many recommend Year One as an essential read, I wouldn't recommend so, cause it's meant to change stuff after Crisis on Infinite Earth, but some of the stuff it did were ignored more or less:
1. Barbra Gordon is the name of his wife instead of his daughter
2. No daughter
3. Newborn James jr.

If you care to read it, don't try to read it as an in continuity story, separate it from the main continuity and you'll be fine

This one is really good, I highly recommend it, even if just for the origin of Penguin

I want to read 70s & 80s comics Can anyone recommend good ones. i have Y1 & TDKR.

I can give you Son of the Demon graphic novel, plus everything with Al'Ghul

I'll add Detective Comics 600, guest starring Elongated Man, Slam Bradley & Sherlock Holmes
Death in the Family
Batman year 2 and Year 3

Best Two-Face origin ever written.

A Lonely Place Of Dying is also a good Two-Face read.

I never read A Lonely Place Of Dying I gotta check it out.

This would be my favorite Two face story so I definitely recommend it as well
Been trying to remember the name of that story. Thanks Cobbelpot :)
Unfortunately, I don't have the New Teen Titans parts

I don't like how Bane is drawn in the left cover from Knight Fall

I recommend the Dark Moon Rising series, consisting of 'The Monster Men' and 'The Mad Monk'. Great reads.
