The Batman General News & Discussion Thread - Part 2

Some people still use The Dark Knight as the blueprint for a really good comic book movie, even if said comic book movie looks and feels nothing like Nolan's Batman movies. So it's not a surprise (and probably more appropriate) that The Batman is being compared to Nolan's Batman movies.

Also, with RP, I haven't seen that many Twilight jokes. Those decreased significantly since the teaser.
Not in latin-america sadly, but I have noticed that there's a bit more of an eyeroll reaction to those.

I think that a good reminder is that from my experience, if you check a lot of the GA comments about the Joker movie before it came out, there were also quite a lot of skepticism or complaints about that as well. People just have certain expectations of how these characters should look and feel and are taken aback when they see a 2 minute trailer that presents something different, but once they watch the movie and the interpretation becomes more clear they're typically more open to it.

I think a lot of people make the mistake of "Oh, Batman is dark in this one? Ugh, why they gotta copy Nolan!"

As if the only 'dark' version of Batman came from Nolan rather than Batman being a dark character necessitates dark versions in media and pushed Nolan/Reeves in that direction.

Reminds me of how Batman fans act like Batman was never dark before Frank Miller, as if his early years and the era from '69-'80 didn't exist, too.

they're fake fans.

yes, there's probably some influence by frank miller and nolan here, but there's also some burton too in its dna.
but it all goes back to the character's roots of being a dark character from the start.

for me, besides the 90s comics -- i also see a lot of the o'neil / adams/ jim aparo batman in this too.

Bruce was kicking random street criminals off of rooftops before "dark Batman" was cool lol.

YAAA-AAA-AA

People will balk at this on account of how out of fashion non-Year One Miller is, but this shot from the trailer feels like such a Miller panel, what with the relatively monochrome colour scheme/shadow and the eyes and gurning mouth being the only particularly noticeable features.

Interesting credit with George Drakoulias as the Music Supervisor. I'm assuming a big part of it was securing the rights to Something in the Way, but hopefully the film has other needle drops as well. Drakoulias was music supervisor for Joker also.

I wonder if the Iceberg Lounge fight will have some sort of music playing in the background, it'd be a very natural place to incorporate it.

I...wouldn't even be against it. :funny:

But nah, go even goofier, some sort of early-90s dance thing.

When I saw Batman slam the batmobile into the Penguins car it really made this film feel like a noir movie.

And then I get reminded of Drive 2011 which was inspired by 80's noir

Semi off topic. We need Ron Perlman to be in a future batman movie. He also voiced the original Clayface in "Batman TAS"

Oh man... I'll die if this one pops out in the film !
Plus, the album title would be a pretty nice reference... ;)

Just because we talk a bit about Perturbator, and others have referenced Robocop as the vibe of the movie, I'm jumping on this occasion to share with you this mash up I've always loved:

Unrelated to the thread I know, but... it's awesome.
