Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 2

Same. I can see Hamm getting it. This doesn't mean Jake won' get it though since they shoot next year maybe? Just look at Brolin pulling double duty, Thanos and Cable all around the same month. It's insane. So i wouldn't rule it out just yet. And maybe he can still play the character down the line.

They should have just tossed Snyder after Man of Steel, focused more on solo movies and built up the shared universe properly with either Josh Brolin as the older Bats or Gyllenhaal as the younger Bats. Gadot, Cavill, Momoa, Gosling as Flash and Mahershala Ali as Green Lantern. Oh well.

Would lose my mind if Gosling was announced as a separate Batman, signed to a possible new Reeves trilogy. Can you imagine the backflips we would do?

No, Jake is 100% out.

You know who else looks like a vampire?

He doesn't resemble Bruce in the slightest.

As stated in another thread, it’s a big well done! to Zack Snyder & co at WB for making DC such a poor brand that actors are happily jumping over to the competition :whatever:

It's to the point where A-list actors would rather play B-list Marvel villains than A+ list DC hereos.

They missed out on Jake G.

Tom Cullen or I'm out. Seriously, how did it come to this?

Might as well let Affleck continue in the role since no one better has come along. It's like they see this as toxic.

Laurence Fishburne played Perry White in the DCEU, is also Black Goliath for the MCU.
Clancy Brown played characters in DC CW, Marvel Netflix, and was Surtur in Thor: Ragnarok.

I won't dismiss the possibility of another MCU Spider-Man villain being played by a Batman actor, so I won't throw the possibility of Jake G being Batman any time soon. I recognized him with ease.

Fishburne had a small role in the DCEU while his role as BG is a bit larger, but still supporting in the MCU. Having Jake play villain in a MCU film and a hero in the DCEU; it would be distracting for many.

This blows. Affleck is a mediocre actor at best, it should be easy getting a better actor for the role. I just can't believe it has come to this, where we went from Bale to Affleck (huge step down in talent and quality of storytelling)....to....a place where good actors are taking villainous roles for the competition. Marvel is eating up all the great names right now. One by one, and it's getting crazier with each movie. While the DCEU has a bunch of no names or meh actors at best representing their Justice League. Batman is in trouble on film (for now obviously) while lesser heroes are profiting.

Sad state.

Affleck staying will be the nail in the coffin for even solo bat movies, for YEARS. Like Batman and Robin to Batman Begins. Unless Reeves pulls a magic trick.

An unknown actor would be way too risky. They need to make people really interested. Hamm could do that, so could Gosling. Who else? Not many, even though it's easy to replace Ben with a better actor. We need more. Why don't they just cast a damn good actor who has some popularity, set the movie in the 90s, and pit him against Joaquin's Joker? Keep that Taxi Driver classic Scorsese feel they want for the Joker movie and push the era a bit forward. No Jake is a bummer. Imagine Reeves passing the franchise off to Villeneuve or Refn or Lynn Ramsay (who just worked with Phoenix on a crime film) for a trilogy. Have Gosling as Bruce in that gritty but stylized world and you have yourselves something so interesting that it forces people to buzz about it.

Not distracting to me, it shouldn't be distracting to anyone. :oldrazz:

Did you know Zachary Levi (DCEU's Captain Marvel SHAZAM) was Fandral in the Thor sequels?

People got too damn attached to the idea of Gyllenhaal as Batman.
Talking about it like it was a done deal or that Gyllenhaal rejected it to play Mysterio.
We don’t know if the rumors about Reeves wanting him were true to begin with.

Unless Gosling or a left field surprise like one of those "that's brilliant, how come he never crossed my mind!?" picks...I can't see myself being excited. Like, at all for any future batman movies. On one hand I'm looking forward to Holland vs Gyllenhaal. A lot. The other hand, I'm so bummed about this. I'm super disappointed. Could be the biggest what-if for me within this genre.

Affleck was never out to begin with. Its all internet BS. Affleck still has one Batfilm to his contact and that is The Batman plus excluding small cameos. Affleck loves this role. He welcomed Matt Reeves to the Batcave on social media and has mentioned being very excited to work with him on The Batman.
If the Batman is successful then Affleck will be here even longer or he will want to work at it so he can go out with a bang. Being Batman is his dream come true. He says it all the time. He backed away from directing The Batman because he didn't think he could act and direct and give it his all at the same time so he now can just concentrate on his performance.
JL's end result was nothing he or the cast signed on for because of Snyder's unfortunate departure and messy reshoots. Affleck loved BvS and Snyder's take on Batman. Gyllenhaal was BS too. He's always been a name media outlets and the so called trustworthy internet movie sites jump too for when people think the Batman role is up for grabs which again its not and hasn't been with Affleck around.

I love you, man. :woot:

That's actually amazing, really out-of-left-field but I kinda love it. It'd be weird given The Tick, but damn. In a more stylized Alex Ross type of classic-superheroes take, I'd be all over that idea.

The more I think about it, the more I really dig the idea of Robert Pattinson as Batman if that were to somehow happen. Dude is a tremendous actor these days and I could see him turning in a “Heath Ledger as Joker”-tier performance as Batman.

But who knows what’s going on.

I have nothing against Pattinson but I have a really hard time seeing him as Batman. Still, anyone would be better than Affleck. But I'm sure Affleck will play Batman in 10 MORE MOVIES, just like Cavill and Superman. Right, Batfreak?

This is not on anyone but you, really. Gyllenhaal was never confirmed, it was just wishful thinking. There are so many actors out there, I'm sure they can pick one that is at least competent. It's still Reeves' movie.

After the Gyllenhaal story first broke, Steve Weintraub did some further digging and he reported that Gyllenhaal was just one of several actors that Reeves had met with. If Gyllenhaal was really THE guy, I can't imagine Reeves or WB would've let him walk out the door without a deal in place. Therefore, we can conclude one of three things:

1. The planned timeline for The Batman's production conflicted with Gyllenhaal's schedule.
2. He simply wasn't interested in the part, for any number of reasons.
3. He was never as sure of a thing as previously reported, and Reeves had since moved on to other candidates.

It's not like the guy was signed and ready to go, and then decided to drop out after-the-fact.

Does anyone know if Reeves is even done with the script yet? Jake may have been interested, but after the last two movies featuring Batman, he may have been like, "Yeah... I need to see the finished draft before I sign onto this." And then he may have eventually given up on it.

As far as I know he was still in the process of writing as of last month.

Playing a Marvel villain is a much, much safer bet. You get to be part of a franchise without a crapload of baggage.

Pattinson? :oldrazz: He's still got the sparkly-vampire-dude rep with the public methinks. Maybe with 10 years and a bunch of heavy drinking and hard living he'd suit, but not now. Who's going to be scared of Pattinson in a alley?

Now that I think Jake G is out. I'm looking at Tom Cullen or Lee Pace.
