The Batman General News & Discussion Thread - Part 2

Blade Runner 1/Drive (pretty much tied)

Both are better movies, but The Batman was so goddamn personal to me
Nice, very good choices, and I think this particular Batman film is ideally suited to people who are big fans of those 2.

I’ve held off on my second viewing for a lot of the reasons some of you have listed. It’s an amazing experience the first time, and I’m still chewing on a lot of the ideas and creative choices presented in the movie. But this definitely isn’t as easy a watch as NWH was, I saw that thing back to back opening night. But I think spacing out my viewings is a good thing.

Might go to the last showing tonight if there isn’t too many people.

Anyone else expecting sequel announcement next week? Correct me if I am wrong, but Its looking like this movie will do over 100M+ OW and it will be the first WB movie to do that since IT and Wonder Woman back in 2017! Should be an no brainer to make a big announcement next week.

Fingers Crossed.

Think the only way this wouldn't have gotten a sequel is if it opened at less than $70mm OW, right?

Here's to hoping they don't use the Joker in the sequel... that 3 min scene... woof

I mean, I suspect the overall BO performance will determine a sequel, would it not? Not sure why so many are taking OW as the deciding factor.

Money is always the deciding factor for sequels. Not reviews or audience scores.

The Dune sequel was announced the week after opening weekend. I'm sure the range of box office multiple is pretty much set and the only variable is the size of OW.

I recall a time when a follow-up to Batman Begins was iffy for months. I think it was only after the tremendous home video results did WB push forward.

But we’re in a different time now. Short of a disastrous 2nd week, this has a guaranteed sequel. The building blocks are as solid of a foundation as the studio could hope to build upon.

Yeah, I was going by the way they announced Dune's sequel a week after it release. I'm hoping it will be the same thing with The Batman next week.

ok just got out of my screening a couple hours ago and i'm still trying to process the whole thing.

not sure if this is THE best batman movie, but it's definitely one of the best batman movies.
easily within the top 5.

i'm still trying to process it all before i write anymore about this.
but the detective aspect of this makes it stand out from the rest of the batman or any superhero movies, in fact.

this was a batman graphic novel brought to life.

theater i went to had this cool display:

Anybody have theater reactions. My theater was surprisingly quiet. But it’s Delaware so…

I echo your words... it's hard without giving too much a way, but this didn't feel like a super hero film, it felt like a movie about a detective with horror elements. It was like Casino Royal of Bond, it gave us moments we wanted, but in a way we didn't expect.

This is a very very good movie, I feel like if you were a kid loving the Burton verse, then this movie is the grown up version.

I think he only thing that could not hurt but slow it, is the face that the younger teenagers in particular may not repeat view or spread the word of this, compared to say NWH etc.

I actually, this movie made me forget all about the DCEU and I'm not sure I am even excited for the flash and seeing Keaton now - yup, as fickle as I sound...

I would love for Reeves to be locked in a room and write pitches for the justice league members and how they would work in this world... then give them to directors and see the heroes - if there are, of the world... I have a feeling it won't be like anything we have had... superman, if he was in this world.... whilst I wouldn't want him to interact with him anytime soon, Clark Kent could make a cameo in a non descript way.

I went to the Canadian fan event and the crowd was quiet the whole movie. I’m hoping it’s like me abs they were enjoying the film.

At the end of the movie there were a few applauses but nothing crazy

i watched with a group of my friends.
what a way to reunite...i haven't seen any of them in person since a little over 2 years since the pandemic started.

some of them aren't into superhero or action movies, but they liked this.

and my one friend who is generally marvel-only / anti-dc, really liked this too. wow.

the batman unites us all!

lot of them praised zoe kravitz and the bat & cat relationship in this.
bruce's and selina's dynamic here definitely done better than any previous movies.

and @Vaibow , ur right, this did not feel like a superhero movie. it was a noir detective film. where the detective happened to be masked vigilante, but thats how many batman stories feel like too. esp the graphic novels.

I just got back from second viewing and it was still an amazing experience and only got better.

Both times I went it was dead silence. A few laughs at Oz's dark humor. Batman's first appearance from the alleyway got a response from someone and I chirped in too, but that was it, lol.

Mine was quiet but it’s the nature of the film IMO. It’s an immersive and atmospheric slow burn rather than a blockbuster sequel with tons of callbacks and payoffs to prior films.

When I saw TDK in the cinema, the only part my audience cheered for was when Gordon was revealed to be alive.

I've been waiting for this film with excitement for as long as many of you have. I had tickets to see it yesterday. On Thursday....I went to the doctor for an ultrasound due to an issue. They found a tumor in my bladder. Doc says there's a good chance its a "low grade" cancer but won't know till they remove it. I know it sounds extremely silly....but it completely took the wind out of my excitement for the film. I didn't even go yesterday. I was gonna go today but don't even feel like leaving the house. Though I know 3 hours in Reeves Gotham may be just what I need to get my mind off things. Currently stuck on the couch though. Just needed to vent to folks who would understand.

I've never experienced this myself, my friend, but my father currently has throat cancer. I can't begin to imagine how you feel, but I will say I think you should do whatever provides you the most peace of mind or distraction.
