Rachel was a poor character throughout. Shame as I was really wanting her to be a strong one in Bruce's inner circle.
How was she that?
Rachel was a nagging girlfriend/wife type. Written as rather unlikable. Neither KH or MG could do anything about it.
What's unlikable, by itself, of pointing out someone's wrongdoing?
"THEY DON'T LOOK LIKE MUH CARTOONS!"
Why's it wrong for some to want the characters who they prefer to see look similar as they do in the versions they prefer? What's the difference between that and not wanting Michael Cera as Batman, Armie Hammer as Mad Hatter, or Jay Baruchel as Superman? Or in reality Jesse Eisenberg as Lex?
She had a character? News to me.
She was someone who pursued what she thought was right within the lines of the law and showcased herself to be angry at the idea of those squandering their potential.

Rachel was always outta place because Harvey Dent was originally supposed to be Bruce Wayne's childhood best friend. But the studio thought that was just too gay. So we got a dose of required estrogen with Rachel Dawes.

That series didn’t need a Rachel. And to be honest, this series doesn’t need a “love interest” either.

I think it would have been better if Nolan went with his original idea of introducing Harvey Dent in Batman Begins. Rachel felt kind of shoehorned in his place. Also it felt like she was kind of this plot device to serve as Bruce's conscience sometimes, but you've already got Alfred for that. So she just felt kind of fundamentally misconceived and shoehorned in there, and she never really overcame it.

Rachel was definitely just a placeholder until we got Dent. They wanted someone lawyery, but had to make it a love interest. They would've been better off using Dent in Begins, and then Dent's downfall would've been so much more heartbreaking.

What was weird, was how Rachel was more of an inspiration to Bruce becoming Batman, more so than his parents. It's like Nolan had to shoehorn Rachel into Bruce's life, and make her be one of the most important aspects of his development into vigilantism, but then at the same time, the reason why he wants to immediately retire within a year of his crusade.

"Thanks Rachel, without you, I wouldn't know what true justice is....also, lets retire immediately after you just showed me what true justice is". Ummmm, ok?

Bruce wanting to retire was a bigger misstep than Rachel ever was. That should never have been a defining characteristic of Nolan's Batman. Or of any Batman.

I liked the idea of having a childhood friend for Bruce in this new series of films and was very optimistic at first. But Rachel's continuous 'moral-shaming' of Bruce, even to her last breath, made me sick of her by the end (of both films). I didn't have a problem with the actresses, just the material they gave the character.

Probably producers bugged Nolan regarding "but we need a love interest!" At that time he didn't have free reign as a filmmaker. So he had to comply. Hence Rachel.

Plus it's Nolan. You can convert a woman into fish and chips and Nolan wouldn't know what to do with them.

They should've just made Dent the love interest. Two birds, one stone.

Too gay? Come on.

I like where this thread is going.

He's a fine actor but please for the love of all that is good, don't let this man scream during any part of the film. Don't know what it is, but his scream is the most grating, annoying sound on Earth. He's done it in a few movies and I almost can't watch.

Can I just say that I absolutely adore Reeves' method of not doing some big, grandiose announcement for The Batman cast, but a simple tweet. He gets ahead of the blogs and outlets and, for me, it's a nice guessing game as to who he'll pick and what gif he'll choose.

'The Batman' Casts Peter Sarsgaard

Peter Sarsgaard is headed to Gotham City. The actor is joining The Batman. On Friday, The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves shared a photo of the actor on Twitter, where he has been sharing other castings. Sources speculate he could be playing a corrupt cop or a district attorney. If he is indeed playing a district attorney, Sarsgaard's character would be one familiar to comic book fans: Harvey Dent, the DA who becomes the villain Two-Face.

ah so hes either a corrupt cop or Two Face then. Hopefully we find out soon!

I'm not sure that shaved head picture is actually a clue to him playing Dent unless he starts out the movie already as Two-Face or they are filming those scenes first.
