What if... Just saying, WHAT IF... That central "cockpit" were a detachable part, that attached to the the frames of various vehicles? So there is a section of the cave that has the basic frames of all these differing modular vehicles and he just snaps the "cockpit" with minor alterations into the frames?

The wings can rotate around the cockpit so that the fins will be in the water and the gun will be above it.

I have many problems with 89 Batman, but batmobile is not one of them. It is still my favorite batmobile, even though it does look a bit plastic-like in some shots.
