Hey, Can I ask you guys for some advice?

I'm 18 and from the U.K. (although I don't post often I've been on here every night for 3 years) and am in what we call a gap year. From what I've heard this ain't that big in America, so basically after finishing my A-levels I've got a year free now before i start Uni in September.

Now This year is for travelling - and I havn't worked off my ass at pizza hut for 2 years to not go somewhere special. I wanna do atleast 3 weeks in NY (and one in Toronto while I'm up north) and wondered if you guys could suggest any hostels/attractions etc to go to. Acoomodation is my main problem and I can only really afford to hostel it, so if you have stayed at any good ones etc just tell me. It would be a great help as I'm gonna book for March probably, when the weather is crisp, but not deathly cold.

I've been twice before but only three day trips which really gave me a slight taster for it, so I wanna go, see the sights, meet some people, have a damn good time and have a proper browse in that Midtown comics.

Go to the information center in Times Square.

If there are hostels in nyc they're likely not cheap. Btw comicon is coming to new york city in February just so you know.

Dammit... I'm ready for it in February. I just hate that it's at the Javits... that damn walk.. especially in winter... god dammit.

I love the new rules the implemented on the subway.... by the way THE COPS ARE @SSHOLES!!!

Yah.

Just don't break any laws an' they'll leave ya alone. Is that so hard?

not having an open container on the subway? People drink soda and snapple or gatorade all the damn time.. but now if they get caught the get fined or arrested.

How about now in the winter... the cops gonna bust people now who wanna keep warm with coffee or cocoa in rush hour? It's stupidity.

The changing subway cars? The cops must love being next to a smelly ass homeless person and endure the ride home.

These rules are stupid... and any cop out to bust someone for these things is a real @ass bag.

It's called doin' their jobs. You want them to get fired 'cause they don't agree with it? ****, you'd lose half th' police force!

They can do their jobs without sending out tickets for drinking a cup of tea.

But honestly..... like the "jay walking" they never fine.. I doubt these laws are gonna be implemented. I just think the new rules are stupid period.

Don't be so sure. Always got a couple overzealous *******s in uniform. Couple years back this pregnant lady got a ticket fer sittin' on th' stairs in th' subway waitin' fer a train. Was also a guy who got a ticket fer sittin' on a milkcrate on th' street...

Actually it's against th' law to use a crate fer anythin' other than it's intended purpose. Why, I have no idea. THAT is a dumb law.

I think the cops have more to worry about than who's switching subway cars.

Honestly.. the cops should be making sure nothing gets blown up around the city.. not who's having their god damn orange juice.

Blame th' law makers, not th' enforcers.

All I can say is; I didn't vote Bloomberg. ****ing *******.

You know.... I'd rather have a tree run NY than Ferrer. I didn't vote for neither but Bloomy was the lesser of 2 Evils.

Ferrer is a waste of life.
His "2 New York" thing screamed racial tension. Problems that haven't been around since Koch.

I want Rudy back. :(

Rudy's still an ass. I didn't jump on that 9/11 popularity bandwagon.

Him dropping crime rate and turning TS into Disney land as well as improving the economy.

He's also from Brooklyn.

So I'm supposed to like him 'cause he's from Brooklyn? **** that! Was he better than Bloomy? Sure. He was still an *******.

LOL.. I don't think you'll have to worry about him being Mayor again anytime soon.

Rudy wasn't great- and i think he did get overzealous in the times square dept. (Equint- have you ever heard hte PreWar Yardsale song about Times Square?)
But he did cut down the crime majorly. Still, i do think he's been sort of metro-Sainted after 9-11.

Indeed he has. My skin crawled every time I hadda be around that dork.

Rudy was a jerk...but he's competent.

If anybody remembers Dinkins...he was a moron. Racial Tensions, Rising Crime Rates, 42nd street was a toilet.

I'll take Rudy anyday..though he can be very overbearing.

It's to prevent people from stealing them from Supermakets. Supermarkets have a set amount they use, and some are returned to milk companies in order for them to keep a stable stock while they deliver more milk. If all the crates are stolen and used for other things, supermarkets would get no milk because they would have no crates to return to companies to get more milk.

How do I know this? I worked at Silver Barns for four months. ****ign hell, it was.

Didn't stop me from getting a few milk crates for my room.
