Shazam The Billy Batson/Shazam casting thread

No, it doesn't look much like him, which is a good thing.

Top choices for Cap:

Joe Manganiello
Benjamin Walker
Armie Hammer
Ashton Kutcher
Steven Strait
Jason Segel

I know we want an "actor's actor" for these roles but in this case the ****er has to be built like a tank to boot.
which i think is something a lot of posters who post on the dc/wb boards should get over. ben, henry, jason and gal aren't exactly a murderer's row of great thespians and Joe's probably a more ideal choice than a lot of actors quite frankly. he's got the physical aspect down, and he's got some comedic chops. he's a better choice for shazam than he would be for superman or batman that's for sure.

Basically the guy has to look like he can take a punch from the Rock and shrug it off. There are a handful of guys that can do that.

I'm throwing Taylor Kinney out there.

I think he's facially a better choice than Joe M. and could probably pull off the kid in a grown man's body part of it all. He's definitely not in bad shape, but he could hit the gym. Now he's 5'11'', but height isn't something we care too much about, ri-- *remembers where he is*

Nevermind. :o

facially a better choice. we're not casting your fantasies here, sawyer. :o

i agree with terry. he's got to look like he can go toe 2 toe with dwayne.

I don't really agree. He has to look as if he can fight against Johnson and be able to win, but it is simplistic to assume that means he needs exactly the same stats. There is nothing to say that Black Adam cannot be somewhat more physically powerful than Shazam, anyway. Most movie villains are given a superficial advantage of some nature.

Alan Ritchson, he's slowly been building up his resume and improving, he definitely has the looks of the character and size to go toe to toe with Dwayne. I think he's poised for a breakout starring role and this could be it. And, he's 6'2. And, I think he's the type of actor who will definitely be in consideration for the role

I'd love to see a manip or fan art of him as the character

He looks perfect (though needs a bit of hair dye if you're picky) but I know nothing about him as an actor.

just saw a youtube video titled, Tribute to Thad - Blue Mountain State, he may not be a bad choice. :funny:

He was Aquaman in Smallville.

He was pretty bad imo.

He's improved since then. Besides, Smallville is not the best example of someone's talent. I initially refused to watch Supernatural because of how horrible Ackles was on SV IMO. Meanwhile, Dean turned out to be one of my favorite tv characters ever.

My first choice was Daniel Cudmore because he has the closest resemblance, is muscular enough, and is the right age (sorry, Brandon Molale is just a little too old in my opinion). However, once I saw Michael Trucco's name brought up I loved the idea. I think he has the perfect charisma (something Cudmore and Molale naturally lack) to pull off the wise-cracking character. He would definitely have to gain muscle to be able to stand next to the Rock but I'm not too worried about that, he'd just do whatever Chris Pratt did.

Ashton Kutcher or Josh Hartnett for Shazam.

Jacob Lofland, Aramis Knight, Isaac Hempstead Wright or Lino Facioli for Billy

He looks like he's trying to defeat hiccups.

Who do I want as Shazam?

I honestly don't know. For a while, it was Jon Hamm.
I just know I want more from an actor than just a one who is able and believable in tackling The Rock.
It goes without saying that we need an actor that not only embodies the spirit of a hero, but also the spirit of a child.

As for Billy?
I don't want the movie to be a social commentary, but I'd like them to have a young actor that will start all optimistic and full of wonder at being a superhero. Have them really delve into what a lot of us as children would fantasise about. Being a big strong hero. Then, with that, the responsibility and struggles of being a hero. Not really in a Spider-Man sense. But imagine being a young kid, with all these powers, would sort of overwhelming feeling would you get? Billy is endowed with the courage of a hero when he grows, but what of the come down?

Nowadays, kids want to grow up so fast, it's pretty shocking. But once they do, they regret it at some point or another. I'd like Billy to have those feelings too.
The most important aspect of growing up is, to me, growing up responsibly.

I kind of still want Patrick Warburton for Shazam.

Hey, a man can dream.

Also, he's going to be The Tick again.

They should cast Billy Batson and THEN cast Shazam based on who they cast as Batson. And there ares ome fantastic young actors out there. I'm confident they can cast a great Billy Batson with the current crop of young talent.

introduce a relatively new actor for billy. There are way too few good child/tween actors these days so I see that role being the perfect opportunity to cast a likeable kid in the role. I hate how everyone wants to cast Asa Butterfield and Zachary Gordon in every young role these days. they both suck in my opinion (plus they arent that young anymore). Find someone new

He needs a square jaw, cheesy huge smile and squinty eyes (in a CC Beck way). Why is this so hard to cast? :p

And stop calling him Shazam. Its weird. He's Captain Marvel!

I don't care what anyone says, I want this to happen.

Yes. He IS Captain Marvel. I'm distraught that the waiting could have aged him out of the role.
