The Birth of a Nation (Nat Turner Movie)

Looks amazing. But, and this might come off in a way that's not intended at all, what's with all of the slavery movies and content of late? There's just been a lot these past three years it seems than there were in the past.

12 Years A Slave
Roots
Birth Of A Nation
Underground
The Butler (to a degree)

Is there a specific political thing going on right now that this content is commentating on or is it that you can make slavery content more often today than in the past? I 'like' the content (although they're all extremely hard to watch), but it does stand out that there's been a lot these past few years in comparison.

There's been a pretty strong paradigm shift in the last few years about how we discuss and acknowledge race in America so that probably has a lot to do with it.

It's funny how Birth of a Nation is not even out yet, and yet, it has 'three stars' given out by trolls on imdb.

It was shown at the Sundance film festival early on in the year.

I'm pretty sure that the 3 stars are just from trolls.

Django Unchained was a hit. 12 years a slave won Oscars. Hollywood always jumps on something that seems trendy. Add to that that Hollywood is always more comfortable portraying blacks in a certain light.

*thinks about the inevitable Fox News/GOP screaming at the top of their lungs about this*
*actually hangs self*

Selma didn't get much Oscar love and I think it's a perfect bookend to Birth of a Nation.

I didn't think they would top their US flag poster, but then they released this.

Watching Deadline turn a 17 year old rape allegation into pre-award season spin like

Surprised Im a few days late on this but I just read about it.

It's very weird and convenient that this is coming out now. Also considering that he was acquitted of all charges. I dont know about the case so I dont know if it's one of the "Damn I can't believe so and so got off" things

It's almost like the accusations against Bryan Singer before X-Men: Days of Future Past came out.

Only problem is Nate Parker opens his mouth a little too much and doesn't make himself look good.

I'm just now learning about this.

We as brothers are prone to do that.

The loud ones do. :o
