BvS The BvS Ultimate Cut Thread

Thanks for all the info, Jumpman. Interesting stuff.

I would call it one, yes.

We see the two cops in the squad car, watching the football game between Gotham and Metropolis and then when they get the call, Snyder does a crane shot of the squad car taking off and then pans up to a billboard about Gotham City. In the background, you see the city and from the billboard and the city in the background, you can tell...Gotham ain't nice.

they are already watching the football game? I thought Clark was supposed to be going to that game the first time he arrives in Gotham and instead starts investigating Batman?

Jumpman, are the BvS fight and Doomsday fight extended? Also with Batman breaking into LexCorp, is that scene fleshed out or is it entirely through camera feeds like in the trailer?

The versus fight is slightly extended. Doomsday fight has some very slight additions. Nothing major.

As for the LexCorp break in, Lex arrives, sees the security footage of Batman breaking in and smirks a bit. It's quite but too the point.

And now for a bit of dialogue that surprised me in the climax:

"You've lost."
"I don't know how to loose."
"You'll learn."
"I'll learn? Ha! I don't hate the sinner. I hate the sin. And yours, my friend, is existing."

Posting this again

That sounds like a pretty big improvement, a lot of those changes are things I really wanted to see in the film. Really makes me frustrated with WB for getting cold feet and making Snyder cut so much out.

Clark goes to Gotham to follow up on the massacre of the Gotham football team at the hands of Metropolis. That's what Perry wants him to do. The game was the night before...

Got it, Thanks!
I loved the TC as well...my biggest gripe honestly was the lack of any type of Gotham establishing shot tbh

Still don't get what is so disruptive about the flashpoint and mail scenes. Both were great and intense.

This cut just goes to show you that Snyder knew what he was doing and knows how to tell a proper story. Now, you can still not like or agree with the direction and tone of the story and that's completely fine but this at least proves that he had a very natural, coherent film from the start that just got cut down. That was my main concern coming out of the film back in March and had me worried about his abilities as a storyteller.

I'll take a few more questions if you like...

Well I have one question in that case... I remember reading a line in the BvS Art of the Film book that didn't make it into the film - it's when Superman destroys the batmobile and delivers threat to Batman... he says something like "your light will be my signal", which explains why Supes shows up when Batman lights up the batsymbol. Is that line in the Ultimate Cut or is the scene in any way different than in the theatrical cut?

Honestly, its pretty clear the entire point of the Knightmare sequence was that it is NOT going to make sense until JL. We obviously never got the payoff of "Lois is the key, you have to save Lois" etc etc. Snyder has since stated that the entire scene was composed when they were writing JL and put it in there for the payoff to be in future movies.
That being said, I personally feel it was just a bit much for the TC, and would've been served better in the UC.

Which is utterly and completely irrelevant to the issue of whether the scenes works. A complicated justification for an incoherent and disruptive scene does not magically make the scene *not* incoherent and disruptive.

It can't really be a justification, given that the point is - the scene is meant to be abrupt and "disruptive". It will obviously be touched upon further in JL, so the scene simply doesn't need to be justified.

Same as the theatrical. What's different is the build up to that scene. Their first encounter feels more earned in this cut.

I see... and from what I read about Clark investigating Batman, I get what you mean about it feeling more earned. Thanks!

I think a lot of people just don't like to see loose ends in the movies they watch, but that's not the kinda movie Snyder made. The Flashpoint scene was very much done to incite discussion. It was supposed to be a head scratcher. And I don't think we're meant to fully understand how it applies to the DCEU overall until a later entry.

Glad to hear the opening Lex scenes are lumped together now....Which ones specifically? Just the one where he is introduced on basketball court/talking to Senators and the one where he is feeding Jolly Ranchers to the one Senator I assume? Were the cuts to him on the ship and w Zod's body still inserted into the Jolly Rancher scene?

the guy from the DC reddit scene also said that the scene where Bruce wakes up after the man-bat dream and the scene where Alfred tells him about Lex's party are now one scene as well.

Wonder why they cut it up so much for the TC

He knew exactly what he wanted to tell. Yeah, you can disagree with choices he made when it comes to how the characters are portrayed when it comes to how "you" might want them portrayed but in terms of this entire story making sense plotwise and thematically, he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

The theatrical cut is more esoteric in the way it tells the story. The ultimate edition is more cut and dry but also a fuller experience. I'll be honest, if I'm in a hurry, I could see myself watching the theatrical cut with no issue. If I have plenty of time, I'd easily go with the ultimate edition.

Yes. All of Lex's first scenes are lumped together. It works just fine. I didn't have a problem with how they were but they work fine here.

And yes, the Man Bat dream sequence and the Alfred Bruce conversation about the party are all together.

Bruce's shower scene with Affleck ass shot no less does feel out of place because when he has his conversation with Alfred, he's already dressed. He then looks at the suit, then the Robin suit, walks away, takes a shower, then leaves. But the clothes are the same.

Honestly, I'd show the shower scene after he wakes up. Just makes sense that way but whatever. It doesn't hurt anything.

Yeah, I guess this is the case. Still, it's one thing to voice personal dislike for such loose ends that will tie to subsequent films and other to claim that the scene was that way because A) it was badly edited or B) Snyder is a crap storyteller, both of which I've seen being said regarding the Knigthmare.

And for the ladies, the bathtub scenes is more hot in this cut. Just throwing that out there...

And there's also the batbutt in the shower. Though that's not just for the ladies. :o

Actually, I saw the movie 6 times in theaters, and every time I noticed that the suit Bruce has on when talking to Alfred is NOT the same one he has when he's at the party

The DC reddit guy said he thought they were different as well

****...they are? I'll look again. Ha.

You guys should look up Anton Volkov on Twitter and read his feed for the day. He has some interesting things to say.
Who's this Anton Volkov? Anyway, he rated BvSDoJUE number 1 among CBM films of 2016. So I'm liking him already.

It was mine before this cut. Now, forget about it. Nothing's going to beat it fore me...
