That’s right another slow news day, and this is actually a thread about Hal Jordan’s freakin car!

Next time your friend asks – WTF is he driving the General Lee? You can answer - No! The Dukes drove a freakin 69 Charger.

This is a 1970-1971 Challenger R/T with 426 HEMI!

...black scoop ^

"The '71 Challenger R/T was designed to be quick, nimble and sporty. Capable of 0 to 60 bursts in just under 7 seconds, the R/T model became the final but triumphant statement in the Muscle Car reign of power." (That's right, this was the end of the line .)

Color choice?

^ Probably inspired by (Hal Jordan’s hero) Chuck Yeager’s supersonic X-1, aka the "bullet with wings", the first manned aircraft to break the sound barrier.

Yes it is that car from that movie - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=9sn1w1yJKKE
And the car George Washington drove - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=JMRMW1FXSHw (warning there are flags in this video)

Good research! Since it was a car, though I would have expected at least a respons from Motown Marvel.

Anyone who would mistake that car for the Duke's General Lee probably thinks that Burt Reynolds drove a Mustang in Smokey And The Bandit...i.e. they couldn't care less either way.

At least they went for accuracy in the GL trailer...in the way that Jordan skids around the corner is pretty much how the Challenger handled ALL corners. ;) Jordan's Challenger is in 'Hemi Orange', a stock color for that era.

You know it's the car. Chicks dig the car.

Not so much that car, though. Muscle/pony cars from the late-60's to early-70's are very much a male thing...with the possible exception of the Mustang. Things like the GTO, the Chevelle, or the Charger are kinda' more about testosterone appeal than sex appeal.

When I was growing up, if you didn't have wheels you weren't going anywhere with a girl. It didn't matter what kind of car it was, it just had do have wheels and take you places. Nowadays (and depending where you live) it would be rediculous taking a bus to go out on a date. Now muscle cars did give you extra points though. They were basically an extension of your manhood.

Yeah...that Buick station-wagon was known for making a girl's knees go all wobbly just as effectively as a convertible Mustang or Alfa Spyder would. ;)

It gave you extra points racing from light-to-light, perhaps....if you were trying to impress a girl that way...just like more time in the weight room gave you extra points in arm-wrestling. In terms of style points, though...the real 'bad-boys' drove motorcycles....and chicks dug even the bog-standard Harley Sportster more than any Hemi 'Cuda or Road Runner. Even in the trailer park crowds.

Not even Bat-nipples?:p

Nowadays you can drive a hybrid or a truck and they'll still give it up. :o

Hey, don't knock the station wagon:

In full disclosure, when I met my wife I had a minivan (yes, we dated in a minivan). The car I had before that one was a Pontiac Fiero. Sure I went out a few times with that one, but the minivan got me married.

Anyone else notice (though not connected except for the fact that Jordan was The Spectre for a while) that the second person Spectre went after in the animation short had the same car has Hal, same color and everything.

Yes I do know that this car was popular in the 70's so it's not to much of a big deal

What about the motor cycle they had planned to build?

Hal Jordan is going to enter the grid at some point during the film. :awesome:

I found a Hot Wheels version of the car in question....with one of my Rings :D

Speaking of GL's cars....

Anybody got a screenshot from one of the early trailers that shows Hal conjuring up a plasma construct of a decidedly WWII-era-looking emerald car....? I'd almost swear that it was supposed to be an homage to the original comic-book Batmobile....

I don't think it's an homage to the vintage Batmobile

His construct looks more like a classic American roadster hot-rod... http://acargal.com/images/32%20Ford%20Roadster.jpg

Kind of like the guy Harrison Ford raced in American Graffiti, if anything it's more of an homage to cars and scenes like that. Jordan is obviously a fan of the muscle cars, anything with a powerful engine, racing, speed and its history.

Maybe so...
Whatever it is, Hal's choice for the green construct (his literal "dream car") definitely intrigues me.
I'm hoping Hal has a garage full of classics, just like RDJ's Tony Stark did.

I seriously doubt it, that's not Jordan at all, Stark is on a whole different $ bracket and level of taste, probably into allot of Italian and European cars Jordan would never touch. There's just no comparison between the two, Jordan is usually portrayed as flat broke, he's probably lucky if he's got the money to keep that piece of crap Challenger running.:yay:
