THE CINEMA LOUNGE

A24 sometimes botches certain releases. Not necessarily on purpose, but a few flicks must be left on the side and make room for more of the so called ‘’awards worthy’’ players.

‘A Different Man’ seems to be one of those casualties. One of my most anticipated flicks of the year as well.

Two years later and I finally understand why Brendan Gleeson stopped talking to Colin Farrell in The Banshees of Inisherin. I would be upset too if my friend got to play around in Matt Reeves's Gotham while I got stuck in Joker 2.

He was a 5-time player of the week winner.

Who can blame his dad?

Lot of Tommy Lee Jones.

The escape scenes and the dam scene in The Fugitive were filmed in Eastern Kentucky. I knew a state trooper who helped out during filming. I’ll never forget his statement that Harrison Ford is “a sweetheart of a man” but as to Tommy Lee Jones, he said, “I guess I would piss on him if he were on fire…but only if I had the ability to piss kerosene.”

It's so weird that Hulu doesn't support Dolby Vision and Atmos but Disney+ does and considering most of their Hulu originals are also on Disney+ it just makes the Hulu app that much more useless.
Dude they're going to end that app in 2027 when they inevitably move Hulu Live TV to Disney+.

What are some films that you know simply through pop culture references but haven't actually sat down and watched. Mine are probably Casablanca, Citizen Kane, and Romancing the Stone.
There's more than a handful for me. Network, Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct, Ghost, Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves, Footloose, and I kinda sorta count The Notebook because I technically haven't seen the whole movie.

I will probably never watch Basic Instinct. It seems its only appeal is Stone vadge. Footloose always felt too ridiculous. A town banning dancing.

But to answer Lily's question, a few modern ones. Namely LOTR Two Towers and Return of the King.

I doubt I'll ever watch Basic Instinct either, I just lost count of how many times I've seen the leg crossing scene parodied in movies and shows.

The Usual Suspects is definitely one.
So I held off on watching The Usual Suspects for the longest time because it was one of those movies where the ending was spoiled for me before I had even seen it because it's just one of those things that's all over the internet (see also: the original Planet of the Apes or Se7en).

By the time I finally watched it, I was watching a post-Me Too movement Bryan Singer movie starring Kevin Spacey. Kinda wish I had watched it years earlier, tbh. :o

You guys are killing me.

Exhibit A on why you should continue, this shot:

Truth be told, I don’t recall why I never fully watched the sequels. I liked Fellowship.

I think Young Shinobi who watched too much Xena and Hercules zoned out (which is ironic since these movies have a lot of the creatives/stars behind Xena). I’ll put them all on the watchlist.

Also haven’t watched a single John Wick or Taken movie.

I do remember convincing a few of my friends back in middle school to watch The Two Towers because they were reluctant after how "slow" they thought Fellowship was. They weren't disappointed. If it's action and big battle scenes you're looking for, The Two Towers and The Return of the King deliver big time.

I watched every one of them in theaters and vividly remember everything.

For Fellowship we showed up late and we got front row seats but fell in love with it.

The Two Towers we watched it super late so I fell asleep right before the Battle of Helms Deep. (I recently made up for that when it showed up in theaters again)

And Return of the King there was some a**hole who was on the phone talking when it got to the 4th ending. :o

I had damn near flawless experiences watching each of them for the first time in theaters. The only thing was with Fellowship I had the opposite problem as you. I was sitting all the way in the back and had to squint for a lot of the darker scenes because I was about a month away from getting my first pair of glasses so this was me the whole time they were in Moria:

Now while you guys were watching Tolkien come to life, I was in the theaters watching this anachronistic classic:

The Mummy Returns is still one of my favorite guilty cinematic pleasures lol.

Dude, I practically lived at the movie theater in 2001. Of course I saw The Mummy Returns. It's really not that bad if you take away the ridiculous CGI Scorpion King. :o

All you people who refuse to watch Footloose have no soul.

For me, it’s most older war movies, like From Here to Eternity, Midway, and the Green Berets.

I’ve also never seen all of A Clockwork Orange. And I haven’t seen Spartacus.

If it wasn't for all the yucky creatives, I probably would've already watched The Usual Suspects. I don't know the twist, though! For that reason alone, it probably should be on my watch list. I was able to watch Fight Club unspoiled like five years ago, these are precious, rare opportunities these days :funny:
Congratulations on continuing to be unspoiled with those two. I'm especially surprised you were able to go unspoiled for Fight Club, I feel like that one's been floating around for years. That's another one that I had spoiled in advance but I still really really enjoyed the movie anyway.
