Superman Returns The closing flight over earth, 1978 vs 2006

cool!

i gotta say though, I prefer the STM version more...

No one can top Reeve's smile.

I like the planet in SR and that is all Ilike about the SR one. I like Donner's better. It is bigger and grander.

Superman's final flight in SR gave me goosebumps. Its a great homage and i'm glad they kept in.

SR's is better because we get to see more flying and he looks he's enjoying it as well.Thats not to say that Reeve isn't/wasn't.Both are great, in their own way.:yay:

Reeve smiles, Routh smirks.:supes:

and bad superman would have scowled and given us the finger........

I'll take the original over the clone.

The 1978 closing flight over Earth with Reeve is vastly superior to the 2006 closing flight over Earth with Routh.

The SR flight looks cooler and has a great feel to it but you can't beat Reeve's smile. I never liked that awkward pivot he makes in the Donner version though. I like the fact that Routh doesn't really play to the camera as much. Reeve made it work but any other time its dumb to have an actor acknowledge the audience.

I liked the part where he acknowledged the audience... when I watch it on my TV, it makes me feel like that smile was just for me... or something along those lines.

Look at the contrast in colour and brightness.

Says it all. Singer must have some kind of medical condition that makes him sensitive to light.

See to me that's why I enjoy SR so much. I just watched the original two Superman movies about eight months ago (I wasn't around when they were originally released) and while I enjoyed them, they just seemed too gay for me. And I DO NOT mean gay in the homosexual way. The movie was just too happy IMO. And I'm sure that that's what the character and movie were supposed to be like, but I just didn't really enjoy it. So that's one of the main reasons why I enjoyed SR so much, because Superman was actually not perfect and he made mistakes and wasn't happy for the entire movie. I know that that goes against what alot of the original Superman fans think though.

By the way, every single thing I said in this post is IMO. I'm not trying to piss people off. I'm just pointing out why I personally like SR better.

Well, I don't remember getting goosebumps while seeing that, but I agree it is truly a fantastic homage, both to Reeve, Donner, and the previous entries in general. Nice move, Mr. Singer!

By the next one i'm sure routh will seem more comfortable..

He really made the role his own in this movie, though. His portrayal of Superman was pretty simple, just look heroic. His Clark Kent, however, took enough of Reeve's performance and added just enough subtle changes to make it his own.

I look forward to the next one though :D

visual of course SR is better. but some people like the reeve smile better. i dont. because he looks in hte camera like he is filming a documentary. it is a movie for christ sake you can not smile in the camera.

He's christopher reeve. He can do whatever he wants. Really though I always took it as a nice ending thanks from supes like "goodbye, thanks for watching" kind of thing. the whole story starts with the opening of a curtain and a kid reading a superman comic so it works well to me within that context of somewhat self aware comic story.

And I can't say I like the SR one because it's a shameless copy and nothing more. Why is so dark too?

Of course you can. The film is over, you might as well break the fourth wall.

All four previous Superman movies use that ending. How is it shameless that Returns does as well? Is it shameless that it uses John Williams' theme tune also?

Space.

Yes, honestly I thought the classic williams theme felt awkwardly out of place in this vague remake/sequel thing. To clarify my point just kinda imagine hearing the elfman batman theme in begins. I know what singer intended but that's how it felt. What more can I say...

Well if you say so about the space thing... The whole movie was very dark like space tho too. It'd have been a relief to finally get some light...

I don't know about that.

All I know was that whenever the John Williams Superman theme played, I was very, VERY aware of it.

Yes you can, it's called breaking the 4th wall.

I agree. Reeve's is still classic, and I would never want that bit changed. His smile at the end of the movies is priceless. It wouldn't work in most films, just would seem out of place to look at the camera and smile like that. I liked the overall look of the Returns end and how, as you said, downplayed it a bit.

I like the actual flight in SR better, but the Reeve Smile>Routh Smirk, IMO
