Out of the Summer movies this year, which do you feel based on ALL three movies should be allowed to be included with the "cool" trilogies?

Spider-Man, Pirates, Ocean's, and Bourne. I'm not a big fan of the Shrek movies, and I hate Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2.

The Bourne trilogy and the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy

Spider-Man and Shrek both started with solid movies, which I felt both movies stepped up in their sequels and later give a half hearted effort in the 3rd ones.

Pirates, in it's attempt to give some sort of grand, "epic" scale movies, turned out some bloated tale with bad storytelling.

I love Ocean's 11. I feel 12, was a way of trying to go in a different direction. What turned me was the whole, they diddn't get away with it storyline that pissed me off. 13 felt like a way of trying to get back to 11. I'm almost borderline on my opinion of this one.

Bourne. Identity - Supremacy - Ultimatum. Solid trilogy, probably the best "3rd" movie of the summer and connected all 3 in a nice little package.

Rush Hour - Didn't see the 3rd one but if it's as good as the 1st 2, I'd still consider this a barely passable trilogy.

Bourne. The first film, while a little light on intrigue, was still a really solid action flick, and the series got better from there. The story became more involved, the action sequences got even more elaborate, and they developed the character... which is a rarity in spy movies *cough* James Bond *cough.*

Spider-Man could have easily been a nominee too... but the third film was such a disappointment. Complete mess. Way too many stories going on and none of them were very interesting or well put together.

Pirates 2 AND 3 sucked, so that's that. Apparently they thought just making the story more and more convoluted and slapstick was the way to go. Oh, and the end sequence of Pirates 3 was oddly reminiscent of DUDE, WHERE'S MY CAR?

Didn't see the other "part 3" films, so I can't comment. Had no interest in Rush Hour though. Hell, I didn't even see the second one of those. Brett Ratner is an idiot.

Spider-Man proved once again that Marvel has a problem with the hat trick. Blade, X-Men now Spider-Man.

However, at least you can add it to the likes of Godfather, Terminator, great first 2 movies with a less than stellar follow up.

I don't think I'll ever understand all the hate for the Pirates movies, but they get my vote.

Agreed. Accept I also thought Blade 2 was pretty weak. But not even in the same vicinity of awful as the third film was.

The first two Spidey movies were spectacular, but sadly the third left me with kind of an "Well, that was ok at best."

I vote Pirates because I can't stand Shrek, and still haven't gotten around to seeing the Bourne movies.

Psst..you know you could have waited to vote until you saw Bourne or any others.

I wish I could also include Spider-Man, but alas, only Bourne deserves the title.

where is the none of the above option?

Yeah seriously... I voted for Rush Hour just because its quality was the most consistent throughout all three films, but it's not a very "cool" series. And the other franchises all had at least one movie - most of them the one that came out this summer! - that sucked compared to the rest. Really, none of these should be let in...

Just to test the other side of the spectrum. What trilogies in your opinion are worthy of being referred to as a solid series?

Star Wars OT (and maybe the PT to a lesser extent, although I didn't care too much for AotC, so it's debatable - but I think it probably goes in), Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, Evil Dead, Scream, Blade (I don't get the hate for Trinity)... I mostly liked The Matrix, so I might even put that one in there, despite some reservations about Revolutions... honestly I never saw Godfather III, so I don't know about that one, but probably? That's all I've got really.

It's funny that you mention Godfather and Matrix when Spider-Man and even Shrek can both be considered as 2 great movies followed by lesser movie.

Granted I think Shrek 3, haven't seen Rush Hour 3 is probably the worst 3rd movie this year.

I haven't seen Godfather, like I said. So I dunno. Maybe that one doesn't count.

I think Matrix Revolutions may be a little disappointing compared to the others, but I still think it's pretty satisfying overall...

And I think one of the Spider-Man movies is much, much worse than the other two... but I'm not gonna say which one, 'cause it's not worth going into again at this point... it's a tired topic.

The Bourne films are solid, although they don't go beyond what they are: entertaining, brainy spy flicks. I'd put Casino Royale over Identity, Supremacy, and Ultimatum. Still, they were each consistently good.

I didn't see Shrek 3 and yet to have seen Rush Hour 3, but the first two films in both series (though entertaining) didn't quite set them up to be placed in the "cool" club.

I loved Ocean's 13, but I just can't for some reason put Ocean's in the club.

Spider-Man 3 was a pretty steep step down from Spider-Man 2 and the great original, but it was still an entertaining film. Pirates 3, on the other hand, made me want to hurt kittens. I consistently get a laugh out of any serious defense of that film as a truly epic adventure story.

So, in the end, I'll go ahead and give both Spidey and Bourne the nod.

EVIL DEAD?!! On par with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars?! Come on, now. I love those movies to death, but seriously, they're fun to watch because the first two are so bad that they're hilarious and the last one is a parody.

If you consider these films to be an epic trilogy, then I think at the very least, you should consider the Bourne films worthy.

I didn't say EPIC. I said good. They're good at what they are. The first one is a strong straight-up low budget horror film. The second one is a good horror/comedy, and the third is a great comedy/adventure. I judge every film on what it WANTS to be. I don't go into, say, Tremors 3 and complain that it needed more stars and more CGI. It's a direct-to-video frickin' sequel with almost no budget! I judge movies on what they are. And what the Evil Dead movies are, is high quality across the board for precisely what they intend to be.
