The Crow Reboot

lol I hope if I ever get run over by a ****ing RIG after being thrown out of a moving car, the worst I have to worry about is a broken leg.

Like, I know he’s immortal but if his leg can be shattered like that, how is the rest of his body not mangled all to hell? lol this is going to suck.

Also, do no drivers in the city stop for anything?

“It’s not a good day to be in a bad movie…”

It reminds me of John Wick a bit. Like the damage he brushes off got to a cartoonish level. But I still enjoy those films a lot. This film does seem to be kinda aping that style which I'm not mad at, but I just can't trust this director to pull it off.

Also, I will say Chicago drivers will stop for emergencies usually. I was in NYC recently though and they don't stop for anything. Like I've never seen an ambulance just waiting at a red light like that, horns blaring and all. It was wild.

It really isn't a bad-looking movie to me. But neither was Ghost in the Shell. 😜

No matter what reviews this gets, I'll be catching this at the theater. I saw the original when I was four years old and it was the first film I ever watched in a theater (my parents are wild for that). So this will be the second time in thirty years that I can see this story on the big screen. It'll make for a fun date night with my wife.

I'll also be there Day 1, going with my wife. I'm a die-hard fan of The Crow. Not just the original, but the comic, and have seen everything else related to the property (most of which is awful). Totally down for a new take on the material.

The biggest issue with the film to me so far seems to be the marketing. Doesn't seem to be representative of the film itself, but we'll see.

I think Saturday I’m going to do a double feature of The Crow (2024) and Blink Twice since the latter begins about a little after the Crow.

Yeah, that’s where John Wick lost me as well. I liked the first couple movies but the third and fourth movie got so ridiculous with John’s invincibility that I just couldn’t get into it anymore. I think Deadpool is more vulnerable than him lol.

Not nearly as shocking to me as the fact that this opens THIS WEEKEND?? I haven’t seen **** (although considering how this has turned out, I guess that’s why).

Thank God I had zero expectations and the Brandon Lee movie on blu-ray.

Even though my film to see this weekend is going to be Strange Darling, I thought maybe this would do better on Thursday's box office than it is now. Sure, it's just one day, but not great so far.

It's currently at 20% on RT which officially makes this the highest rated piece of Crow media on RT after the original! LOL

I saw it. It's rough, over-complicated, has some cringey dialogue, and there are definitely pacing issues during the first chunk of the movie. Maybe it's because I was high as a kite, but I enjoyed it and didn't hate it! The internet narrative doomed this movie from the start, but the hate and negative reviews are WAY overblown in my opinion. This is nowhere near a "Madame Web" level of disaster. It's not the kind of Frankenstein movie that was plagued by crazy editing issues, reshoots, or obvious studio retooling. It seems like they delivered the kind of movie they set out to make, for better or worse.

I liked that it was a slow burn to start and ramped up towards the end. It's VERY different in terms of structure from the 1994 film and even the comic, and I also personally appreciated that they didn't even bother trying to make to be a beat-by-beat remake of the Brandon Lee version which would have been even more disastrous. There are some genuinely cool moments and I thought Bill did the best he could with the material. FKA Twigs was totally miscast IMO and the whole film would have been better serviced with a stronger female lead. Villain was weak much like all Crow sequel villains outside of Top Dollar.

Truthfully, they just shouldn't have named these characters "Eric and Shelly" in this film. Would have been better off presenting this as a new tale using the basic Crow mythology as a foundation rather than a remake, because it really isn't even much of a remake and people are so protective of Brand Lee's Eric Draven -- myself included.

How would you say it compares to The Punisher 2004? I got Punisher 04 by way of Underworld vibes from the trailer.

Didn't really get Punisher or Underworld vibes from it, but it does kind of have the early 2000s generic superhero movie vibes at certain points. YMMV
I'll probably check it out once it hits VOD. From what I've read, it's got massive pacing issues and the love story isn't believable. Seems like a casual drug fueled trist rather than a real relationship.
