The Crow Reboot

You never know though! They could always cancel the movie at any time, since that’s a thing that studios do now!

****, I hope so.
Some things do not need to be updated.
There are films which should not be remade and this one of them. No production could recapture the magic of the original, which is forever haunted by Lee's passing ( literally shot to death while filming his character being shot to death).

I would actually much rather see a mediocre sequel with different characters than have modern day Hollywood **** on Lee's legacy by making a mediocre remake.

There have been multiple sequels and a TV adaptation. None of them have impacted the original film or Lee’s legacy. If you don’t support the film, fine, just don’t watch it. Wishing for the hard work of an entire cast and crew to be canceled unceremoniously is just petty.

The original is the first movie I can ever remember seeing. I would spend my lunches in high school at Borders reading the graphic novel. I have a tattoo based on it because it’s so important to me. But it ain’t a perfect film.

Shelly isn’t a character. She’s a plot device. Just there to be assaulted and murdered so Eric can be vengeful. There’s definite room for improvement and that alone is enough for me to give this a chance. Plus Bill and Twigs are fantastic entertainers. So yeah, this deserves a fair shake imo.

I mean… it was going to happen sooner or later. I don’t know if it will be good (probably not) but I like Skarsgard so I’ll give it a chance.

Wow didn't realise this had even gone into production let alone finished. The first movie is a classic so interested to see what they do with this.

Yeah the original was on the other night on Showtime and yeah still a classic so I’m rooting for this one to at least be decent. Great album too.

Ten weeks isn't much time for filming. Either the majority of it was studio-based or they only filmed on a few select locations. Must be a pretty small budget, too.

Yeah I mean, John Wick and The Northman both filmed within like 12 or 13 weeks I believe. I can’t imagine this being any more expensive or elaborate than those, so 10 weeks sounds about right to me.

I'm not saying a shorter schedule or smaller budget is a bad thing, I just thought it was funny that that article described the shoot as "lengthy." It's definitely more of an indie production, which I like, I just hope that the lower budget doesn't result in it looking cheap.

I don't really have any stake in this film. I'm satisfied with the original, and Bill Skarsgard's never impressed me. Rupert Sanders directing doesn't exactly inspire confidence, either.

Rupert Sanders? Ugh!
I actually wanted to make sure I wasn't judging him based on two movies that weren't good...so I looked him up and thats ALL HE'S DONE???!! How did this guy go from shorts to a big budget Snow White?

I think Sanders has shown to some good dark tendencies in his movies which gives me hope as The Crow is a dark story and the original had those dark sensibilities so I hope this one does too. A smaller budget may bring better out of Sanders also.

Ugh, I forgot Sanders was directing this. Yeah, he doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. Snow White was mediocre and Ghost in the Shell was god-awful.

‘The Crow’ Reboot Gets Funding Injection From Ashland Hill Media – Deadline

Ashland Hill, which was set up by producers Joe Simpson, Simon Williams and Jonathan Bross, helped close finance on the reboot, which recently went into post-production.

Based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel, the film charts the story of a brutally murdered man who comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder. The script for the modern re-imagining was penned by Oscar nominee Zach Baylin (King Richard). CAA Media Finance reps domestic on the revenge-thriller. FilmNation is repping international. The tragic 1994 version, which starred the late Brandon Lee, became a cult classic.

Great actor! First time I saw him as a kid was after watching 30 Days of Night! Very menacing!

He is indeed and plays a great bad guy. Guessing he must be Top Dollar?

Got my hands on The Crow graphic novel last week so finally going to read it.

‘The Crow’ Reboot With Bill Skarsgard And FKA Twigs Sells To Lionsgate – Deadline

The script for the reboot comes from Oscar nominee Zach Baylin (King Richard) and Will Schneider. Also starring are Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), and Jordan Bolger (The Woman King).

The Crow is produced by Victor Hadida (Resident Evil), Molly Hassell (Terminal), John Jencks (Honest Thief), the late Samuel Hadida (True Romance), and the late Edward R. Pressman (The Crow). Production companies are Davis Films, Hassell Free Productions, Electric Shadow Company, and Pressman Film, which is now led by Sam Pressman. Dan Farah is among exec producers.

The $50M-budgeted film was shot on location in Prague and Munich. International sales are handled by FilmNation, which already has closed a raft of deals.

Part of me wants this thing to be successful just because it was only made for $50M. That’s still a lot of money to the little people like us, but for a superhero/comic book movie, it’s pennies. And if it is good, maybe it will convince these studios that you can make good movies on a modest budget so you don’t risk bankrupting your entire company every time you have a major release.

I also think trimming out excessive fat in a script, before it goes into production, can also help costs. Like if you’re making a sequel to a highly successful movie, introduction of the main characters is done. The plot can move a bit faster and keep things short and sweet.

Like in the five Bayformers movies, there was 70-90 minutes worth of movie in his bloated 2.5 hr extravaganzas. Could’ve been less expensive and less butt numbing.
