This probably might be the first CSI thread Ive seen on here.

Years too late. There should've been CSI threads for the previous series really.

pretty sure they was one or two but due to the 'purge' I can't find it

The last couple of eps of the season were decent, especially the finale. Ted Danson is moving to the show next season due to CSI being cancelled, I think D.B" Russell will add a lot to the show.

With Ted Danson coming over maybe they'll retool it to not be so ridiculous with their stories.

Is Ted Danson going to become the main actor? But I don't think Patricia Arquette will like that being demoted to 2nd billed, unless Danson gets an "and" credit.

Also, Peter MacNicol doesn't appear to be coming back next season due to creative differences. But the whole show is apparently being retooled. I hope one of the things they remove are those pixelated images/ computer graphics which are headache inducing. Also get rid of the sudden closeups on people's necks or mouths to nail home the point that they might be lying or telling the truth. "Lie To Me", which was all about micro expressions, never felt the need to be so unsubtle like that.

Does it mean though that D B Russell will be joining the FBI, or will they have a genuine CSI on their show to actually fit with the title (otherwise it should be called FBI: Cyber)?.

My guess is D.B. will replace MacNicol's role on the show.

Whatever the role D.B. takes I hope it is one that does exactly what Dark Raven said: Get rid of the ridiculous zoom-ins on "micro expressions" (which are unreliable) and stop trying to turn the internet into the next D&D scare.

This show needs someone over the top like Horatio Caine to pose aloofly, say half a one liner, put on his sunglasses and complete the one liner. As ridiculous as that was, it's probably the most recognisable and iconic part of any CSI franchise.

Well they did say the show was going to be retooled before next season where it will have a full order, and I think the way they wrapped up Avery's past story suggests there will be a few big changes in presentation overall.

I don't know if this show is trying to find a younger audience, but I thought CSI generally skews older. I can't really imagine the older people really liking all this pixelation and other distracting computer graphics. It's not as extreme as something like Man on Fire with Denzel Washington, but still can be off putting. I don't know if younger people would necessarily like that either though.

It certainly doesn't seem epilepsy friendly, that's for sure. Not that I suffer from that, but I can imagine those who do might find this hard to watch.

I know but how much and where is it being retooled? If they stick to this then I can't see it making it to a season three. I was surprised it even got to a season 2.

Well there could be various ways it could be retooled. CSI: NY was retooled from Season 1 to 2. In Season 1, Sheldon Hawkes was the medical examiner, and he worked down in a dungeon. In Season 2, he moved into the field, and the spot was vacated until they filled it with Sid Hammerback. Also, the offices of CSI: NY were completely different in Season 1, which were much darker and smaller scale. In Season 2, it was as if they suddenly got a budget injection and everything became bigger and brighter.

Also, they brought in Anna Belknap as Lindsay Monroe to replace Vanessa Fertillo's Aiden Burn, who was fired at the start of Season 2 over rapist DJ Pratt (not sure why she left in real life) and subsequently was murdered by him at the end of Season 2.

So I imagine the visual style and cinematography of CSI Cyber could be different, and obviously we're getting a bit of a cast change. It's a shame Peter MacNicol is leaving though, because I thought he was one of the stronger cast members. Hayley Kiyoko seemed to have been absent for quite a few episodes.

I hope they get rid of the digital autopsy though and just give us a regular dead body. I didn't like the hologram. I really am hoping we've seen the last of the horrible pixelation and other interference, and the zoom shots of people's micro expressions.

In fact, I actually preferred the CSI episode where Cyber was introduced and Avery Ryan visited DB Russell's crime lab. That seemed a better visual style and way of storytelling. Maybe if they could recapture that feel, it would be better.

I'm not sure, how do you think they should retool it? I mean most things involving computer tech stuff seems like magic to me anyway so I never really thought about whether it was realistic or not.

I think they should stop trying to demonize technology and abusing it so much to force nonsensical stories that make the internet just one giant pedophile rapist serial killer sociopath's wet dream.

Obviously that will never happen; the entire premise of CSI is using technology in a magical way that is nowhere near the reality of how it actually works. I don't know how they can salvage it exactly. Just make it less that every crime is magically the result of impossible internet/technology antics and focus more on the people behind it?

Well they could lean more on the psychological side of things given Avery is from that background, maybe balance it out a bit more, it's kind of in the SVU situation through of it's premise dictating the cases and leaving less room for variety.

What happened to Luke Perry who was supposed to be joining the cast in a recurring role? He was announced before the show began, but never showed up in the first season.

Also, in the finale, Nelson violated the conditions of his parole but that seemed to be overlooked. Did he use the FBI computers to go on the deep web, since he couldn't have used his own technology since he was only given his tablet back in the previous episode?

CSI Cancelled, Farewell Movie Event Eyed for Fall With William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger Set to Return
By Michael Ausiello / May 13 2015, 6:29 AM PDT

CBS is sending CSI off into the sunset in style.

The network confirmed on Wednesday that the former juggernaut will end its 15-year run with a special movie event to air on Sunday, Sept. 27. Original cast members including William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger are among the CSI MVPS set to return for the swan song.

CSI was a breakout hit when it debuted in 2000, averaging 20 million viewers by the end of Season 1 and ranking among TV’s top 10 shows. In Season 5, it hit a peak audience of 26 million viewers. It also launched the spinoffs CSI: Miami, CSI: NY and, most recently, the just-renewed CSI: Cyber.

The cancellation writing was on the wall since October, when CBS trimmed the show’s Season 15 episode order from 22 to 18. CSI ended the year with an average audience of 8 million viewers.

George Eads Opts Out of CSI Finale, Forcing Last-Minute Script Revision
By Michael Ausiello / July 17 2015, 4:01 PM PDT

Turns out not everyone will be returning for this fall’s big CSI farewell, as star Marg Helgenberger declared at Comic-Con last weekend.

TVLine has learned exclusively that George Eads has decided not to participate in the two-hour swan song, forcing series creator Anthony E. Zuiker to excise Nick Stokes from the already-completed script.

While Eads never officially signed on to the project, I’m told Zuiker and his fellow producers were hopeful that the actor would reprise his role alongside fellow CSI vets Helgenberger and William Peterson (with more names expected to be announced soon).

It’s not clear why Eads opted out — production starts on July 29 in Los Angeles — or whether his absence will be addressed on screen. (I’m told the script did not have to undergo a major revamp since Nick — whose storyline was wrapped up in February’s Season 15 finale, Eads’ last episode as a regular — wasn’t critical to the central plot.)

Eads’ representative declined to comment for this story. CBS similarly had no comment.

“I’m excited… that all of us are going to be back,” Helgenberger told TVLine at Comic-Con (see video, below). “I think it’s going to be a really fun time.”

CSI‘s two-hour goodbye — tentatively titled “Immortality” — is set to air Sunday, Sept. 27 on CBS.

CSI Series Finale Cast: Melinda Clarke's Lady Heather and 11 Others Returning
By Andy Swift / July 17 2015, 5:19 PM PDT

Ready or not, it’s almost time to say goodbye to CSI. The long-running CBS procedural’s finale is slated to air Sunday, Sept. 27, and TVLine can now confirm more than 10 vets returning to the fold for the farewell fete.

Though we exclusively reported that George Eads will not return for the last hurrah, the following cast members — in addition to Marg Helgenberger and William Petersen — will appear in the finale:

* Paul Guilfoyle as Captain Jim Brass (original run: 2000–2014)
* Jorja Fox as Sara Sidle (2000–2015)
* Jon Wellner as Henry Andrews (2005–2015)
* Wallace Langham as David Hodges (2003–2015)
* Ted Danson as D.B. Russell (2011–2015)
* David Berman as David Phillips (2000–2015)
* Robert David Hall as Dr. Al Robbins (2000–2015)
* Eric Szmanda as Greg Sanders (2000–2015)
* Elisabeth Harnois as Morgan Brody (2011–2015)

But wait, there’s more! Melinda Clarke will also appear in the big finale, reprising the role of Lady Heather.

CSI casts Faking It star Katie Stevens for two-hour send-off
BY NATALIE ABRAMS

Faking It’s Katie Stevens has landed a guest-starring role in CSI’s two-hour swan song, EW has learned.

Stevens will play Catherine Willows’ (Marg Helgenberger) daughter, Lindsey Willows. Now in her early 20s, Lindsey is a CSI level 1 experiencing her first day on the job. Lindsey is described as an over-caffeinated, younger and bubbly version of her mom, minus a youthful mistake or two, who is on her way to a promising career. Lindsey actually nails down a key piece of evidence that moves the case forward.

If you’re a diehard CSI fan, you may recall that this is the third Lindsey Willows we’ve seen on the series. Madison McReynolds and Kay Panabaker both previously inhabited the role in the character’s younger years.

Stevens joins a long list of talent involved with CSI’s send-off, which includes Helgenberger, William Petersen, Ted Danson, Jorja Fox, Jon Wellner, David Berman, Paul Guilfoyle, Wallace Langham, Elizabeth Harnois, Robert David Hall, Eric Szmanda and Melinda Clarke. As EW previously reported, Elisabeth Shue will not return for the show’s series finale, which is being written by Anthony Zuiker.

CSI’s two-hour series-ender will air Sunday, Sept. 27 on CBS.

I haven't watched regularly in quite some time, but I have enough love for the early days that I'll be watching, especially with bringing Grissom and Catherine back.

I've seen them all though not from the start. I started regularly around season 7 and then caught up and kept up from then on.

Somewhat surprised Eads won't be coming back since he is the only one to have been there start to finish. Or start to almost finish now.

Nice to see Lady Heather come back. I wonder if she and Grissom are a couple now. And it looks like we'll be dove-tailing with Lindsay's first day on the job mirroring the very first episode (although hopefully not exactly as that was a tragic way to end the first day).

Peterson doesn't look all that different from the last time he was on the show. I thought he had aged quite a bit in recent years, but maybe that was just a role he was playing.

Aw, I miss that original cast. :hrt:

Watching the season premiere now and it still has some ridiculous leaps in logic and technology. The most stupid is the golf club that has a GPS tracker on it convienently helping find it and the victim. :loco:

And the credibility dropped to zero. They used the "motion sensitivity" of a mobile phone to find out the key strokes the hacker made on his laptop.

Not sure I can watch this kind of absurdity anymore.

This seemed a rather weak opening episode. There was a lack of action, and the capture of the villain was anti climactic. There wasn't even really a hook at the start with some murder or burglary being committed.

And they still haven't fixed all those little transitions or pan and zooms which can be headache inducing and too busy. The camera also moves about too much. I don't like the way this is filmed. Why can't they film it just like a normal CSI show? I was hoping this would be fixed with the new season. But they haven't. And even some of the previous episodes of the last season were more interesting. This almost felt like there were scenes missing here and there.

CSI NY was revamped and looked better in the 2nd season. This doesn't really, even with the addition of Ted Danson, whom I thought would make his presence felt much more.

This weeks ep......

I'm not a techspert but it seemed utterly ludicrous to me, and no one has explained why DB is hanging around at crime scenes, his job is supposed to be at the lab representing a tech firm that is offering the Cyber division gadgets.

The other thing is no matter how fancy the editing you cannot make typing away on a keyboard and sticking wires in and out of ports exciting.

Interestingly it was directed by Eriq La Salle of ER fame.
