The Curious Case of Spider-Man & Hulk Rights (Or Keep Hope Alive That the Rights Will Revert)

Is he officially scheduled to appear?

It's completely slipped my mind, but do the Sony appearances have to be included in the contract, or just those in the MCU? Wouldn't both parties have to agree with him being in Morbius, e.g.? Remember the old adage "If it's not written, it never happened."

He might not have any appearances in the SUMC yet if it's not being reported.

I know Spider-Man's at Sony, but it seems awfully unfair to require something of one party, and not the other. Seems awfully one-sided, but I could say that about the whole thing....

Morbius better knock it out of the park since the character is so obscure that it needs to be as good as Spider-Verse

The reason Venom did well and I think Morbius will to is because they are coming out around Halloween time. I hope I'm wrong though.

Morbius is set for July 31, 2020. One of the reasons Venom did as well as it did was that it had no competition.

If Mobius is good then I hope a Blade crossover isn't out of the question.
I don't think Feige will do that. By using their character, he's openly telling audiences it's one giant MCU. It just opens himself up to a massively complex continuity, as if it wasn't complex enough. Lol.

Even with the new deal's stipulation to allow Sony to use Tom, I think he'll still continue as a one way street, no acknowledgement from his universe, just as he did with the Marvel Entertainment shows, even when they had Nick Fury and such appearing. People can think it's canon. That's fine. He'll just continue on in his merry way.

Damn! 4 MCU movies in one year, and Disney gets 25% of Spidey back. Don't F with the mouse, Sony got legit bent over.

Say what!? They should have released it around Halloween but nope. Sony going to Sony.

John Campea seems to be in denial over this, saying Disney bent over despite reports saying otherwise.

I like Campeas content but damm he can stubborn. How exactly did Disney bend the knee here? They got what they wanted If anything it was Sony who came crawling back. After ignoring Disney for the last 7 months.

Here's what I think happened. When the original Sony/Disney split was announced at the end of August. The reports said that Sony had hired the FFH writers to write the script for the third movie.

It wouldn't surprise me if Disney said well give you a month to come up with a script that has no MCU references. If you can make it work well walk. I'm guessing Sony spent the last month and a bit trying to figure out how to write a story that doesn't reference the MCU but they couldnt figure it out. So Sony had to admit defeat and come crawling back. And out of desperation accepted Disneys 25% middle of the road offer.

The reason I believe it did well it cause people thought it was an mcu flick. The GA don’t know about deals like us fans

Who knows. Deadline have mentioned have mentioned how sony and marvel films might be able to cross mention to some extent. Deadline are a respected source. If true doesn't sound like the third film is endgame for Spidey in the MCU.

I've always thought this. People still ask when is Venom showing up in an Avengers movie. Plus Venom has a massive fanbase that aren't too film savy or even comic wise. At some point you weren't cool unless you were a Venom fan. I really think that slapping his name on a poster was going to bring results. But, there will be a drop off for the next one. People realizing the last one wasn't good and no MCU connections? Why bother?

And no ifs or buts about it. Morbius will tank. Most of the audience won't even know its a comic book movie let alone connected to Spidey.

If Sony it's going to be able to have Spider-Man in the spinoffs and possibly have their movies mentioned in MCU movies, then no I don't think either side got bent over.

Best news I've heard in awhile. Despite any misgivings I have with the MCU's version of Spider-Man, collaboration between Marvel and Sony is still the best case scenario for the character and fans.

The best case scenario for the character and fans is for Marvel to regain the full rights so they can prevent Sony from tainting the brand further by crossing him over with their doomed cinematic universe(I have a very tough time seeing their non-Venom projects being successful either critically and most importantly commercially).

I’m just glad he’s back and not under control fully by those idiots at Sony. Lmao as soon as that madame Webb movie was announced the higher ups at Sony were like
“ yea get Mickey on the phone”

I never believed for a moment that the door was closed on this deal. Marvel wasn't really saying anything, it was Sony that was claiming disappointment and saying Marvel was asking too much. That's the first sign in negotiations that your side is losing.

At this point Spider-man will be jointly owned for all intents and purposes. Sony basically made it clear to every one that they need Marvel more than Marvel needs them.
