The CW's Frequency - Adaptation of the Film

Frequency is dead on arrival. No way a WB show gets renewed with a premiere that low.

Very poor debut for Arrow as well.

Will still probably beat every other show on the network save Flash and Supergirl, but still.

It just makes what Flash did, debuting to a 1.3 (only one tenth off its premiere last year), all the more impressive.

No Tomorrow is likely dead too but it being a CBS show means it has a little bit of a chance.

That was a solid premiere. Too bad about it's rating. But it's probably for the best since I never saw this show running for more than a season.

Episode 2 tonight.

I'm sure there's a slick answer for this, but how come 2016 Raimy doesn't remember talking to the 'nice lady' (herself) on the ham radio that she talked to in the first episode back in 1996?

When she talked to herself as a child she never mentioned, hey I am you 20 years from now.

yeah, but wouldn't you remember talking to a nice lady on a ham radio back in 1996, when ham radios weren't a popular thing to use and now, in 2016, you're talking to your 1996 version?... wouldn't all of a sudden it occur to you that you had this same conversation when you were a youngster with that nice lady and realize that the nice lady was YOU?

Fair enough, but is it something that you would address out loud?

I'd probably be muttering to myself, "damn, this seems so familiar".... and then realise why it DOES seem so familiar... :funny:

Finally caught up with the episodes before the winter finale. But there's one new to go this week. Seems they've revealed the Nightingale killer who seems to be the deacon.

Is this actually going to be the case or will there be a twist revealing it's someone else? But he had his wife's body stored in his house. And will Frank kill him?

Is this show likely to be canceled? How long can this really last anyway? They can't really string this out very long. Frank needs to save Julie soon. And once the Nightingale killer is killed then there's no reason left for the show to exist.

Unless it gets VERY strong Netflix/online views, I say it'll be cancelled.

oh, I have no doubt this will end up on the cancellation block, as much as I DO like it... but yeah, I can't see the storyline going on for long in either case, whether it manages to survive cancellation or not...

The only thing that could prolong the story now is if there's another copycat Nightingale killer who kills Julie or keeps taking lives after the original Nightingale is killed. But it would have to be personal to Raimy and Frank for them to continue this, so it would probably have to be Julie.

And once the Nightingale is killed (and if there is no copycat), do Raimy and Frank stop communicating via radio and across time? Or do they cease communication altogether?

Another thing I thought of: why doesn't Raimy tell Frank about his car accident in 2011? That way she can prevent his death and he will still be alive in 2016. If she looked into the circumstances of that accident she could warn him to avoid that situation.

Also, if both Frank and Julie live into the present, then that changes Raimy's history. So does she discover the ham radio that warns past Frank of the Nightingale killer? What happens to that?

So Raimy shot the deacon in cold blood and Frank tried to murder him in the past but then got into a car accident. But is Frank dead now and did the deacon get away so that Raimy's execution of him does end up mattering and she'll have to face the consequences?

Did Frank's life-ending car accident come much earlier after trying to kill whom he believes to be the nightingale killer? How can Raimy communicate with anyone now if he's dead? They can't change the past anymore if Frank is gone.

This show seems really dark. And this week it was getting into early Breaking Bad territory with buying all the supplies and planning a murder. Was the film ever this dark?

There's only 3 episodes left of what could be the entire series. I could see them going for broke and making these bold decisions and killing characters off.

Maybe the Nightingale gets away in the past and still goes on to murder Julie, but Frank also dies early so Raimy loses both of her parents in 1996 this time round.

So Joe was the original Nightingale and his son takes on the mantle.I though this might turn to case where the only person Joe killed was his wife. Everyone else was being killed by both his crazy ass kids. He takes the fall for them in the diner because he has accepted his failure as a father.

Since Julie pops up in 2016. Wonder what prevents the son from killing Julie? He obviously had his sights set on her next. But apparently nothing happens for the next 20 years. Still doesn't look like Frank makes it to 2016. Hope the final next week doesn't end on a cliffhanger.

I don't know if Joe was the original Nightingale as such. I didn't understand it that way. I think he might've just killed his wife, but wasn't necessarily a serial killer (and therefore the one called the "Nightingale"). He did, after all, continually protest his innocence at having murdered all those women.

I think his son was the original Nightingale serial killer with the one given that name. He was old enough even back in 1996, and that's why he ran away at the docks when Frank showed up there with the sister. He thought that Frank was onto him and after him.

Also, I'm guessing the reason the serial killer is called "the Nightingale" killer is because he kills nurses, and it's referencing Florence Nightingale?

The original murder of Joe's wife must've affected the son, seeing the dead body, the hands tied in a rosary, and then being forced to dispose of the body somewhere with his father. So he probably started killing when he was an adult (which he was in 1996).

And he had all those photos of Julie back in 96 as well, meaning he was the one stalking her. I don't know why Julie is now alive in 2016 though. Wouldn't the son/ brother have tried to kill her back then, especially since he's been invited into their home and knows where they live?

I think this is what he'll try to do next week. She'll invite him in because he'll show up pretending to look for Frank or something. Then her life will be in danger. And he'll probably show up in 2016 as well, trying to kill Julie at the same time or trying to kill Raimy. Then perhaps both Frank and Raimy will be forced to fight and kill him and save Julie.

As soon as the son/ brother showed up (especially when Raimy was talking to him while in hospital), I suspected he might be the real Nightingale. My suspicions were further confirmed when Frank showed up at the dock and he ran away.

But why doesn't Raimy try to save her dad from that car accident too so that she can have both her parents in 2016? Does she only want her mother back?

Well that sucks.

Raimy got her mom but Gordo lost his dad. They should have wrapped up the Nightingale story instead of leaving it opened like that since the series most likely will not get renewed. Still no explanation as to how Frank surviving prolonged the Nightingale's killing spree.

If this is the end. Too bad, it was a good adaption of the original film. A rarity.

I was hoping both Raimy and Frank would fight the Nightingale in both the present and the past in the final confrontation and that Frank would kill him and save Raimy's life in the present.

Did the Nightingale get away after Satch rammed his car into Robbie's car? He is still at large in the present at the end as he was watching over Raimy's house. He could still strike. And if he's still free in the past he could kill again or change Raimy's reality.

Did Frank visiting Robbie and Megan cause the timeline to change and for him to kill his sister?

I was hoping they'd wrap everything up and allow Frank to be alive in 2016, especially since this is most likely the end.

And now Julie must know that Frank was telling the truth before about talking to Raimy on the radio. And doesn't Raimy remember that she heard her grown up voice calling out for her dad and speaking to Julie?

Frequency cancelled

Frequency was a combination of two of the season's most popular trends: time travel and movie reboots. Starring Mad Men alum Peyton List and Nashville grad Riley Smith, the show had a small movie fan base to build on from the start. The Warner Bros. TV first-year series couldn't connect with viewers, averaging just a 0.4 rating and 1.5 million viewers — not enough to justify a back-nine pickup. The show's fate appeared to be sealed in March when CBS TV Studios tapped List for its space drama pilot Mission Control.

they waited THIS long to tell us what we all already determined and knew months ago?... :o

I don't see this lasting over a season.

They were probably trying to see how it did streaming wise.

They should've really wrapped this up properly instead of leaving it on a semi cliff hanger, especially when it looked so unlikely it was coming back. It's not like the storyline could've really continued much without stretching it out.

As expected. Still it was a solid adaption of a good movie.

Well at least we got a proper ending and it was finally resolved and Raimy was reunited with her father. For future releases of the series (eg on DVD or future airings) they should tack this ending onto the last episode.

But what about the way it did actually end in the last episode? Raimy says the Nightingale died in prison last year, but what we actually saw was that same person prowling around outside of her house. He was roaming free. So how does it tie up with that? Are they retconning that last scene so that it didn't happen? He was clearly not in prison.

They should've shot a bit with her father walking her down the aisle, and also being reunited with his wife.
