dumbest idea would be when editors decide to change a superheroes costume laying claim that the change will be permanent but then after fan backlash they return to normal
Spider-Man's black costume
Superman's long hair and that stupid electric suit
Batman's Azrael period

and also when new writers jump on board a title saying that this is the perfect starting point to bring back readers and that the storyline will have serious repercussions on said title only to have it stay the same months later.
