Wow. Mother natures is raping cali right now.
it was big.
i was there for the loma prieta quake in '89, though i was only 6. i didn't feel that quake, but i knew something bad was happening.
but honestly, i've never been so scared in a quake like i was tonight. i was in the food court, and heard a rumbling, and thought there was something crazy going on in pretzelmaker. i looked over, and all the glass cases were shaking, but the employees were just standing there. i started seeing some people start freaking out, and i just thought to myself "oh ****..." and looked up at the ceiling when it really hit, and watching the ceiling shake the way it did, and hearing everything rattling around in the area around me, it seemed like the ceiling was going to collapse on me. after it stopped, everyone started running around trying to get out of the mall, and merchants were closing their stores, so i ran back to mine to make sure my employee and customers were okay. we cleared the store and got out, and all the phones were out. i couldn't get ahold of anyone for about 20 minutes to half hour.
it's the biggest earthquake in the bay area since the '89 quake, which was a 7.1 i think. this one was 5.6, but felt like a 6+
i just want to know how i don't feel these things. when i first realized what happened, i stood still, conciously trying to feel it, to see just how big this one was. i couldn't feel any shaking, but watching the ceiling, and watching debris fall off of it, i knew that this wasn't one i wanted to stand around for.
i'm just glad that now after all is said and done, that nobody was hurt. but it was definately enough to spook me a bit.
