The Emblem

Well, we had a thread for it before Returns, so why not one for the Nolan take.

What are people's thoughts on the emblem? Any specific preferences, past emblems, or specific ideas on the design?

I am expecting something just as impactful as the logo they used for advertising Begins and TDK. Though that brings up a question, will they be using a different emblem for the advertising than the one on the suit?

Though, not what I am expecting, I whipped this up combining the classic (technically not classic, but the one used on all Supe's merchandising) and the Returns \S/.

I want to FINALLY see the official, classic \S/ as finalized by Wayne Boring and refined by Curt Swan. It's always bugged me that the \S/ used most in comics and merchandising has never been faithfully adapted to screen. I also don't think it needs any changing whatsoever:

Agreed. I think the size needs to be a little smaller than the one used on the Reeve suit (and definitely smaller than the L&C shield) but larger than the SR shield.

It's way to bland. I prefer when they are tweaked, like Smallville's S or Chris Reeve's S.

Seriously, the classic symbol is magic. I look at it and it inspires me.

I like it too, though not as much as the classic shield.

But I'd take something like this with no problems:

Haha. I really can't explain what irks me about it. Especially as a huge Superman fan. But there is something way to cookie cutter about the "classic" symbol.

Take the "Superboy" tv series costume. It was an exact copy of the classic symbol. And it just seemed...wrong. Not "Supermany."

They can get close, but I prefer it to be more like this:

I'd prefer the SR-design, but a wee bit bigger, less raised, less rubbery look and stronger colors.
A flat emblem is gonna look underwheling unless it actually has some kind of 3D effect.
And maybe they could add a metallic look to the emblem. They should do that with the whole suit.
It would make it look more organic and fresh.

I'd love to see the Kingdom Come logo, or even the costume.

Ugh. The Kingdom Come \S/ is good for that particular story, but it's overrated and doesn't embody Superman the way the classic symbol does.

It doesn't even really look like an \S/, and as much as like most of Ross' work, this design is one of his weakest, IMO.

There's just something about the Fleisher \S/ that I love so much. even if they go the traditional route with the logo I still would love to see the Fleisher referenced in some way, like an old costume in a closet, or maybe he wears it after his main suit is destroyed in battle.

That particular S I think belongs to the creator's suing family,so it cant be used.

I think they will want to move away from anything in SR.

Therefor the shield I would think is going to look different, and not re-use the raised emblem.
