What's Facebook? Another site for emo kids to hook up with other emo kids

So...uh....your complaint is that strangers might ask to talk to you....kind of like they can do on here?

Here I go under a psuedonym, people can see my face, sure, but only because I choose to post it. On this board, I am not a person defined by my physical state, but by my ideas and my ideas alone. Furthermore, that's what everybody else here is. I post here, not to meet people, but because I believe in sharing those ideas. I believe in debate, as well as discussion with other viewpoints as a means of better understanding any number of things. You know what else? I can get very frustrated with some of these viewpoints, some are obviously uninformed, some people don't know how to read a text critically and analytically, some of them are not willing to grapple with an issue without reducing it to a simple binary system that ignores the complexities that comprise said issue to the point that they come to deceptive conclusions (liberal vs. conservitive, amazing vs. absolute trash, chirstian vs. muslim, RUBBER vs. SPANDEX). However, the great thing is that they are all just viewpoints and that's all this post will be to anybody who reads it. On Facebook, I am a person, with a room number, a phone number, a mailbox in the form of a message system (which unlike the Hype's, I use to cooridinate with my friends in the real world) and in many other ways, I am more physically connected to my Facebook account than to my nom de guerre here at the hype. A stranger who disturbs me in that setting is much more of an intereferance. They turn what is a line of communication between my friends, kids on my campus, and myself into a hassle and an often times unpleasent experience.

That's one of the things that has always been the hardest for me to get used to about the net....I am who I am. While I understand the fun of using a name that isn't your legal one (although my name is in fact C. Lee)...the idea of making a different persona to talk to other people under that name is something that is completely foriegn to me.

If you were call me on the phone and talk to me...I would be the same person as I post here.

I was cool with allowing high schoolers, but the companies and plain old regular people? Not that I don't like the non-students in my life, but come on. Facebook is totally giving up the only thing that set it apart.

(Well, one of the two. I've never clicked on a Facebook profile only to have bad music start blaring at me.)

:cmad: :cmad: :cmad: First the ****ing stalker feeds, and now this ****!? I joined Facebook because it wasn't Myspace. I got into it becaue I could find out what was going on around campus, keep in touch with friends, and make new friends on campus without having to deal with messages from some allegedly seventeen year old asking for my AIM or some band that didn't bother to look at my damn musical preferences asking to be my "friend". The worst part is that they know all this. They saw what happened when they pulled their whole feed fiasco, we don't want a limitless network, but they obviously don't care. At least the network privacy settings are still functioning, but how long is that going to last? Furthermore, now that it caters to companies, how much do you want to bet that we'll see scam groups like VECTOR Marketing using it to harass us?
Just don't join a regional network  and set your privacy options so people only in regional nets can't do anything to you.

Yeah, no one not on a college network can even see my wall comments. I was mad, but they put in the new privacy options in too so I'm fine with it.

So now it's just a less interesting MySpace. The point was that it was exclusive to college students. Dumbasses.
Yeah and they don't even f***ing listen to their users who have protested this in droves for months now:whatever:

Stupid, that's what seperated it from the emo's of Myspace :(

You pluralized with an apostrophe. :csad:

It's open to everyone now. Thank god because I had forgotten my PSU e-mail password. So I couldn't receive the account confirmation e-mail when I tried signing up awhile ago. :(

And I was too lazy to go back to tech support and get my password... :csad:

I created a SHH myspace group. Click the link in my sig for the link. We had a Myspace group, only fair that we have a facebook group.

I'm afraid to register on facebook. That's another thing I might become addicted to.

I'm glad you're finally advertising this thing; you and I were the only members for months haha.
