The Fantastic 4: First Spoilers

I'm watching Thunderbolts* later and I'm most excited about the post credits scene.

I think it confirms that First Steps took place before
Thunderbolts*. The ending of First Steps is kinda given away. Galactus will devour their Earth and the Fantastic 4, get transported into 616 as their Second Steps.

I've seen a lot of people saying this, but I don’t think we can make this presumption. The FF could defeat Galactus and get transported in the process. They could make the jump to draw Galactus away from their Earth. They could defeat Galactus and then go on a whole new adventure… or any number of other possibilities.

Exactly. We shouldn’t automatically just assume with their arrival into our reality that they lost. For all we know they are victorious in their battle against Galactus and they’ve entered the MCU — not as multiversal refugees fleeing from their dead world after defeat from the Devourer Of Worlds, but as messengers for the incoming threat of Doom and his nefarious plans for the sacred timeline (and by extension the multiverse) & since it’s more than likely Doom will appear in F4, and the fact that Marvel film after First Steps is Doomsday, I think that’s more likely.

Either way, we will inevitably find out the exact circumstances in First Steps but it will be fun to speculate until then.

The Thing is when we are going to see the Earth being destroyed in these Marvel movies? This seems like an opportunity for that and superheroes shouldn't always need to win. Also with their Earth being gone, it gives them more reason to stay in the 616 reality in the long run.

My only doubt about Galactus succeeding is that it would be a pretty heavy subplot to carry into an ensemble, that I'm not sure they'd have time to spare on in Doomsday. Also, a Galactus still out there unhindered, aware of the multiverse, seems like an equal threat to what Doom is presenting.

I could see them most likely trapping Galactus somehow where he is no longer any threat to any world...for now.

Didn't they confirm that Galactus has no variants?

Franklin Richards and Doom.
False.

His statement seems intentionally vague:

“Doom is not a part of my film, and therefore not a part of my purview.”

In other words, maybe the Russo’s filmed the after-credits scene.

As somebody who likes living on Earth,
I am not chomping at the bit to see it destroyed.

I love the cast, the characters, the visuals, the world building, the slower pacing, more subtle humor, the lack of MCU references. I was very into this movie and then
they revealed that Galactus wanted Franklin. For whatever reason I could not suspend my disbelief. I get what they were trying to do, but it just didn't work for me.

I know why Franklin matters as a comic geek, but the movie desperately needed to show it. I know thematically they wanted Reed to get over his fear of how this baby would turn out, but as a viewer I needed something to sell me on why this ancient powerful being would care. That's really where the movie fell apart for me. That and trying to get Galactus to walk over a big chalk line like a Looney Tunes character.

Genuinely loved everything else. Can't wait to see these characters again, but in another story.

I haven’t seen it yet, but I kind of love the idea of that being a mystery to be resolved inlater films - sort of like how the Infinity Stones were revealed but not explained until later films.

Good story-telling is all about knowing things your audience doesn’t and revealing it strategically.

But for it to work the way I’d like that, would have to be a plan they intend to follow up with in future films.

Oh, I'm sure they'll follow up on that in future movies. I suspect that when they do it'll positively change my view on this story as well. Since so much of this movie hinges on it.

Just saw it, I give it a 7. I feel like they got the characters right, I don't know too much about F4 overall. Reed is the brains he knows that and understands he is weaker at the emotional connection. Sue is the soul they all love her the people love her, she calls them out when they need to be called out. Johnny is the heart he is lovable (think Evans was the best at it) but this wasn't bad at all, Thing is the muscle but also lovable. Feel like Thing should have been in it more, they gave him the little love angle but felt tacked on because everyone else had something. Galactus was visually good another character I would hope we get more of since the end didn't kill him just moved. The Surfer had some good movement.
Franklin will be like Sentry just can't have him around, I knew he would bring Sue back so the scene was not gonna have that tension.

Credit scene wasn't better than Thunderbolts but I do like that the speculation continues for a year on that one.

Firstly, I’ll just quickly say that I enjoyed this. Best FF movie; probably best FF in any adapted media IMO.

Cutting John Malkovich makes sense to me now if Red Ghost was only going to appear in the opening montage; or maybe he had a bigger part to play (maybe all those villains Reed name-dropped right before Surfer showed up helped build the bridges across the globe). It would have been cool to see Reed leading the world’s most brilliant minds—the film really zipped past Earth preparing for Galactus (though I very much enjoyed what we did get with the montage & Reed’s televised science lesson)

And it would have been nice to see Ben talk with his teacher friend a bit more; especially before Sue speaks to the angry mob. Ben makes note of how bad things are getting outside of the Baxter building; it would have been nice for him to see firsthand rather than just another exposition dump via news broadcast.

I agree with all of those points, especially wanting more of Earth prepping for Galactus (would have made it sting more when Surfer wrecks the bridges) and Ben scenes with Natasha Lyonne. Ben had some great lines but I wish he had a little more to do in it. I'm betting there's some scenes with the two of them that ended up on the cutting room floor.

I also would have liked to see more of Galactus and Shalla-Bal leading up to his arrival on Earth.

You know going into this, I was worried about the runtime, it seemed too short to me given all the ground they are supposed to cover but I just felt that the pacing ...worked. Getting right into the Galactus conflict at the 20 min mark (i think) didnt feel rushed to me. We spent 20 minutes getting to know the team, who they were, their dynamics and then we dove into the film's conflict. And man, Galactus. They nailed this purple f***er so well. Easily one of the best mcu villains we've seen introduced.

So now question is...when will he return?

Yeah the ending threw me a little as I assumed that the F4 would be going through the portal to join up with the others as the Thunderbolts post credit scene showed, but I guess thats more Doom related anyway.

Galactus and Shalla-Bal will be a massive hit I feel with fans so I would be amazed if they didnt use them again for something, at some point in some way. Where they got sent too though is, I guess pretty open ended at this point.

Maybe they can devour the planet the eternals are on :funny:
