The Fantastic Mr. Fox

Fantastic Mr Fox was my fave Roald Dahl book as a kid so I am looking forward to it.. I was actually always surprised there has never been an animated movie of it before (there might be one i don't know of though).

Even though I'm looking forward to it.. I don't really know what to make of it, having just watched the trailer. The animation, the cooky style, is definately a draw for me.. I like the voice cast.. However it does a feel a bit like it isn't really Fantastic Mr Fox.. but obviously they had to beef up the story to make it and hour and a half (or however long it is) long, so even though it feels a bit wierd at the moment, I'm ok with all the new character additions and stuff. And I'm quite liking the Oceans 11 vibe.. It does look cool and funny so I'm definately gonna try catch it at the cinema.

Just waiting for my stop motion Enormous Crocodile and live action The Twits (Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter involved) movies to happen now :woot:

YES!! YES!! YES!! I agree completely. I'm not a big fan of the Burton shtick anymore, but his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was wonderful and shows that he should do more Roald Dahl flicks. Atleast 2 more or something, like Frank Darabont's string of Stephen King flicks (which I'm not a fan of, but it's a good example in this case)

Haha, well I think it was originally you that had these ideas so we agree with each other  Enormous Crocodile would be great in stop motion and I think The Twits is ripe for the movie treatment. Like you say Roald Dahl material is suited to Tim Burtons style (or maybe that should be the other way round) but none more so than The Twits, I think, maybe The Witches too..

I'm not spreading hate or anything...I think it's great that some people like it.

But to me...man, it just looked horrible.

I believe that Guillermo del Toro is in some way attached to a remake of The Witches, maybe it has something to do with the entire Disney Double Dare thing...

Didn't know they were remaking that one. Isn't Angelica Huston the star of the original or was that a different film?

I couldn't stop laughing when he started eating the toast.

Saw the trailer for this before Where the Wild Things Are and it looks pretty good. Great cast too.

Okay, from what I've been told, this movie is getting a VERY select release tomorrow. My roommate told me it's only being shown in a handful of cities in California, New York, and Colorado.

I am itching to see this movie. Does anyone know if this film will get a wider release? And if so, what date? I don't want to have to wait until the DVD release.

i swear there was another Mr. Fox thread around here somewhere.

What, no thread for this movie? :p

I just found out about this and it has some really good reviews, including a 92% on RT's Tomatometer! Seems like a good family-oriented flick for the Thanksgiving holiday, think I'll go see it sometime this weekend. Anyone else seen it or planning to?

oops, delete or merge thread plz. I just found this one: http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=326927

I'm seeing it Friday. I am very very excited

Yup, that was Huston.

That was a good movie. Dahl disowned it because they changed the ending (which I didn't mind one bit). The 1996 Matilda starring Mara Wilson and Danny DeVito was a bit more brutal than the book, but good.

Sadly, the Wes Anderson moniker is a turn-off for me, as is the cast. Clooney, Streep, Wilson and Murray's voices are too recognizable and stick out like a sore thumb in the trailer. I really loved the book, but Wes Anderson seemed to inject too much of his indie sensibilities and quirky humor into the movie (and loses the spirit of Dahl's book).

I loved this movie. Quite possibly my favorite movie of the year, or at least in the top five. It definitely felt like a total Anderson flick. 10/10

Seeing this tomorrow (finally).

It's just now releasing near me.

I was upset about that. Believe me. And now apparently The Road isn't getting a wide release, which despite the conflicting reviews I did want to see. I can't catch a break lately.

Damn, try living in Holland, we get The Road, Mr Fox, A Serious Man, Bad Lieutenant and many more flicks I want to see in 2010!

I saw it yesterday morning. Loved it. I like how it retained the same Wes Anderson vibe. Don't know how much the kids in the theatre enjoyed the film though. A family of 5 or 6 left in the middle because the boy said "I want to leave."
