Why? He was the only worthwhile part of that **** show scene.

I disagree, respectfully. I found him kind of obnoxious and Jar Jar Binksish in his constant attempts at humour. I had a lot of problems with that scene too, two thirds of the characters showing up to fight without any kind of personal investment (Seriously Hawkeye shows up out of boredom, that's flat out awful writing) made it more of an action figure commercial than something with any kind of substance to it. The Cap/Bucky against Iron Man fight at the end was way, way better.

We'll see if Marvel choose to fully embrace Peter Parker's history.

Hawkeye showed up because he felt he owed Wanda a debt.

hawkeyes reasoning was garbage. add to that him and widow fighting... "we're still friends right?!" **** off.

did antman have reasoning?

spiderman was there because tony said cap was wrong. without even knowing what was going on.

falcon is just as bad as spidey, blindly following cap just because (same reasoning in Cap 2)

The airport fight is hella fun, but it's also kind of just "there". It's shoved in as fan service and is basically this giant detour from the actual plot where we're gonna throw every character in this movie into a fight just because we can.

The stairwell fight and subsequent car tunnel chase with Cap/Bucky/Panther and the climactic Cap/Bucky vs. Iron Man fight are a lot more exciting to me, because they actually mean something besides just spectacle.

How long before Civil War makes it to your movie channels like HBO/Stars?

edit - I kinda felt the airplane rescue from IM3 was a bit of an excess, while the Iron Legion sequence tied into to the idea that Tony didn't need to define himself strictly by his suit.

Falcon is Steve's very own Rhodey.

Hawkeye's reason worked for me. I assumed Scott was just there because Falcon tracked him and he was happy to be recruited rather than persecuted for breaking into their HQ. He also seems to be a Cap fanboy, as are many people in this universe, so there's that. Spidey was there because he wanted to impress Tony Stark, whom he clearly idolizes.

I have no problem with these motivations. They weren't being recruited for a "war," they were being recruited to help out with a thing. It was a skirmish, nothing more. No end of the world, character-defining stakes were needed at the time. Like they said, that wasn't the "real" fight.

Which made it pointless. If the characters are blasse and indifferent what's going on, it just sucks me out of the action.

The apartment to stairwell to tunnel fight/chase was great too.

LOL... "it wasn't a war" yet the entire thing was trying to kill each other... but they didn't because its a fun marvel scene!!! YAYYY!

They dropped an entire lot of cars on tony... vision tried crushing cap and bucky with a tower... antman tried stepping on people... war machine got all sorts of ****ed up once he fell...

It was a cartoon battle for fans. I would have been fine with bucky/cap v tony/BP.

@Dude: You get a chance to play that Lovecraft videogame?

The airport scene got them from point A to point B, got Tony to have his massive wake-up call after what happened to Rhodey, so it served enough purpose (within the story) for me. Of course it was conceived as fan-service, as the ENTIRE CONCEPT of superheroes fighting each other was. If you have a problem with that, then there's no point in seeing a movie about superheroes fighting each other, lol.

Pretty sure the whole point was to avoid having to kill each other. They were trying to force the other side to give up. That's how some fights work.

They could've cut it all out and just released the pre-viz animation online if they wanted fan service. Since it didn't really serve the film at all.

@Dude: You get a chance to play that Lovecraft videogame?

Only a small bit, just to get myself into the town to start the game proper. Might play some later on. Been too busy.

I mean i just provided 4 examples of how they tried to kill eachother... but ill just stand over here in the corner and smile. Vision would have killed Falcon had he not missed the shot.

LOL, pre-viz animation would have entertained no one. The airport fight was enjoyed by many, so it earned it's right to exist.

And yet, those things didn't actually kill anyone, so maybe they weren't really trying. As they specifically said. But go ahead, keep hating fun. It looks good on ya. :D

ok flickchick... you're proving again that no one else can have an opinion.

Nice work, Sanchez.

I'm currently watching Spartacus for the first time. Kirk Douglas looks like he's in brown face for some of these shots, lol.

So... What did you think of it? I'm surprised you of all people had never seen it before.

The film should have been a straight Winter Soldier sequel featuring Tony Stark, T'Challa and Wanda. The rest should have been put into a rocket and shot into the sun.

I'm glad people did get entertained, good for them. But I just wanted to get back to the meat of the story. I tend to have more fun when I care about the goings on, which is why I was way more engaged and having a lot of fun with the Bucky chase and the end fight.

I'm still watching it. It's long, lol.

I'm liking it well enough, though. I love the wide vistas movies like this and Lawrence of Arabia used to have all the time. I miss those in current movies.

I agree those sequences were better for the reasons you stated. But I also think it would've felt like a wasted opportunity not to take advantage of all the superheroes at their disposal and have a proper comic-book-esque skirmish that takes advantage of all the unique powersets. That's part of the fun of a shared superhero universe, imo - Mixing the characters and their powers up and seeing how they play off each other. Every now and then I just want to see them let loose, like they did there. The other sequences gave me the more emotionally-driven action beats I needed to stay invested, that one gave me the reminder that I'm mainly here to enjoy myself. I was grinning ear-to-ear that whole time. I was happy to have both types of action sequences in the movie.
