it would have worked a lot better if manhattan was centered. but as is, the asymmetrical composition just isnt working here. the left side is uncomfortably weighted. and the arrangement between veidt and manhattan is just odd. but it leaves this big empty gap right down the middle that only leads up to the sky and out of the poster, rather than keeping your attention focused on the image. the text at the top is also poorly placed.

all they did was use the same background from the rorschach "citys afraid of me" poster and added pics theyve already used for website etc.

Hollywood needs to get some better people designing these posters, the fan made stuff can really kick the A$$ of some of these paid professionals. Greatly Disappointed, it's like they took all the character pictures from the website and threw them on a poster?

Looks alright to me. Basically does what it should, show the main characters of the film. Yeah they could have made an entirely new backdrop but when they had different posters for each character and in their own room/environment no less I don't see the problem.

For the X-men films and others when they had those individual character posters all they had were the same boring/blank background for each character at least those earlier Watchmen posters they actually made them differ from each other.

It's also the cover art for the original soundtrack, which seems pretty lazy on their part.

When are people going to stop talking out of their asses complaining about movie posters because "they epected more from professionals".

Well, it's because your in a site with alot of people who do get paid to do Graphics, or have a heavy background in Art & Design. We are critical when we see something that looks like a Rookie mistake, that some studio wrote off on.

i dont even mind that we've seen the background before, and the characters images separately. its just that they're so poorly composed. the design is just....i dont know how anyone ever thought that was a good idea, yet alone enough people to approve of it.

That's the problem, what you and others see as a "rookie mistake" is actually in the mature and real world...difference of opinion for the most part.

Yes most fans can hate it because it's not what they wanted from a final Watchmen movie poster(like in my previous post, just be glad when it came to the individual character posters they actually made them unique as opposed to most of the other films who have done that), but it's still funny because you see people with comments like "I expected more from a professional". Really, the way I see it is they chose to go this route with it and it wasn't what the fan wanted so the fan/s decide to knock the person who designed the poster saying they're unprofessional when it really comes down to a difference of opinion.

Can you explain in a bit more detail, I'm trying to understand why people complain about posters in this manner.

It's just that I don't understand what you mean by the characters being poorly composed.

Were people expecting Dr. Manhattan to be floating above the rest like a god with his wang hanging out while Silk Spectre is bending over so NightOwl can smack her ass?

I really don't get what's wrong with the poster other than, Yeah, they took the easy way out and used background and pics of the characters from other posters.

i get what your saying about peoples knee jerk reactions resulting in criticisms that are not constructive. but judging the poster constructively, its not so much a matter of differing opinions, as much as its the designer just made poor artistic choices, ones that go beyond the realm of opinion. its just a very poorly composed and designed image.

They did a few strange things... Comedian is closer to the camera but lower than Rorschach when he should be higher since he's taller. Veidt seems far to low for as close he is behind Dan and Laurie. And they covered Laurie's ass... damn them.
