50 ft Dr. Manhattan looks fantastic! A little "CGI-y," but I'm still hopeful.

Did you see the 300 poster on the wall during the test footage?

Yeah, man. He looks nothing like a REAL giant naked glowing blue man. They should've just filmed a real giant naked glowing blue man instead of using that stupid CGI!

Because before CGI we never saw giant people on screen, right?

Manhattan looks excellent. I think the glow was a clever choice; it excuses the computer rendering. We all know that CG-rendered humans have an odd look about them--maybe something is a little too shiny or a little too smooth--but adding the glow to Manhattan makes these imperfections seem like a result of his condition, not imperfect rendering. Or, in other words, the unreal qualities that plague CGI become appropriate, because Manhattan is unreal.

The close up of his face looked especially fantastic.

dammit--still so much time to go :cmad:

a very smart post.

i think it was a briliant idea to make the actor glowing. that way there is a lot of blue light on other actors. better and cheaper then to add CGI blue light on actors. plus you get a nice blue reflecation on the floor.
bravo.

Yesterday's video blog is by far the best one yet. I can't believe we got some actually movie footage at the end.

Brilliant blog. One thing I loved in particular that nobody has brought up was the CGI render of Manhattan's hand on the computer screen. That looks like an actual blue hand. Perfect CGI.

Re: The CGI. If this is all we get, I don't care. This is a man who put himself back together as a glowing demigod. Looking less than "everyday" just doesn't bother me. Whose to say what kinds of materials he's made of, etc?

yeah.. a bit early to start *****ing about it

Yea to me I think Manhattan looks like what he's suppose to look like. He is not suppose to look 'human' as we know it. He truly is "god" in some sense, or the essence of the cosmos. I always figured in the comic, in my imagination that he was not just a guy with blue skin, I kinda always figured he was glowing, and energy like.

Maybe that's just me though.

Do you seriously think the last few seconds are from the complete, finished movie? It looks like preliminary graphics, just compare it to the shots of the Doc from the trailer.

Um... maybe it's not finished yet?

Though Mercurius has already started. And he seems to be the only one.
No one's *****ing about Osterman imploding or the Owl-Ship coming out of the water.. whatever :whatever.. Too early, unfinished fx, and so on.. I love the teaser--in fact, I'm gonna watch it right now

Maybe it was me, but honestly that shot of Rorschach looking up at Manhattan seemed like something out of a video game to me. Could just be the fact that the CGI is not 100% done yet, but, I dunno, it didn't feel right.
