We're still about two months off from having all this year's qualifying films being screened for the professional critics, but already eight Oscar gurus have weighed in with The Los Angeles Times, and have given their predictions for the ceremony in February.

At present it's Ron Howard's "Frost/Nixon" leading the charge with seven of the eight critics agreeing that the film will get a Best Picture nomination. David Fincher's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and Gus Van Sant's "Milk" come in second with six critics agreeing they will be nommed. Also on the list are "Doubt" (5 noms), "Revolutinary Road" (4 noms), "Slumdog Millionaire" (3 noms), "The Dark Knight" (2 noms) and Australia (2 noms).

All eight agree that Frank Langella and Mickey Rourke will be nominated for Best Actor for their work in "Frost/Nixon" and "The Wrestler" respectively. Sean Penn in "Milk" also seems a shoe-in with 7 noms. On the other side of the gender question, both Meryl Streep ("Doubt") and Anne Hathaway ("Rachel Getting Married") are tipped for Best Actress with 7 noms each. Kristin Scott Thomas (""), Kate Winslet ("Revolutionary Road"), Angelina Jolie ("Changeling") and Sally Hawkins ("Happy-Go-Lucky") also seem to be potential contenders.

My predictions for Best Picture:

Revolutionary Road
Frost/Nixon
Australia
The Dark Knight
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Possible alternatives: Milk, Changeling

I think those seven have a really strong chance of Best Picture. Obviously The Dark Knight is the most out there choice, but WB is taking it pretty seriously for Award Consideration. Not to mention the it's $500 million domestic haul and it's universal praise from critics.

i never heard of slumlord millionaire.

edit: looked it up on imdb, it not what expected when i saw the title.

My Predictions for Best Picture:

- Frost / Nixon
- Milk
- Revolutionary Road
- Changeling
- Doubt

I'd love TDK to be nominated, but I don't see it as possible

It'll be nommed for everything but best picture, director, screenplay, actor/actress, I think. Makeup, cinematopgrapher, and the like are all pretty much a lock I predict.

Am I the only one who has ZERO interest in seeing Frost/Nixon?

My nominee predictions:

The Wrestler
Doubt
Milk
The Dark Knight
Valkyrie

If Heath doesn't get nominated for his performance and win the award then I'll lose all respect for humanity and the oscars. He truly deserves it this year and not because he's dead, but because he truly gave a wonderful performance that deserves all the praise.

If the Oscars care about being relevant - The Dark Knight will be nominated in several major categories: Picture, Supporting Actor, Director and Writing.

The Dark Knight would add relevancy (and ratings) to The Oscars.

The Dark Knight nomination for Best picture

Wall-e and Kung-Fu Panda Nomination for best animated Feature

these are the only ones i've seen this year that i think will get a nomination.

You think the Academy gives a rat's ass about relevancy or ratings?

Bwahahahaha!!!

Revolutionary Road
Frost/Nixon
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Milk
Changeling

Alternate : Australia.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

Frost/Nixon doesn't look that good to me. And I dont think the academy vote for it.

My predictions

Australia
*The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Doubt
Milk

alternate: Revolutionary Road

TDK needs to be there. Best Picture. Best Director. Best Adapted Screenplay. And Best Supporting Actor (Though Ledger is more likely to get it, I think Eckhardt deserves it as well)

^TDK came out during the summer. That spells disaster for a spot in the fold, but it is receiving a re-release, so you never know.

They must. They're trying to broker a deal for Justin Timberlake to host the event. That's an obvious ploy to draw in the younger viewers. I'm not sure if that's a concrete lock though.

As for the awards buzz, I haven't actually viewed any of these films, but I have a feeling that RDJ and Foxx may receive nominations for their work in 'The Soloist'. Winslet looks like she might receive a nod for 'Revolutionary Road' and Sean Penn will definitely get a nod for playing Harvey Milk. The voters cater to those type of performances.

i think tdk has to be nominated for best pic justbecause of the records it has broken..... if not then i will truly be suprised

I would love the Dark Knight get the nods I feel it deserves, but I'm losing faith because most of these predictions I see don't have dark knight in them. Will the academy look past the genre if Dark knight is better than most of these films. I don't know I hope.

P.S. I'm not liking some of the plots for some of these films. They're not bad, I just feel like I've seen them many times, give us something different in best picture.

I want "The Dark Knight" to have a load of nominations, but at this point, the only things I'm certain of are that Heath will be nominated and "Wall-E" will win Best Animated Feature.

I hope that the Paul Newman tribute is up to par. He really deserves a significant segment.

rourke is winning best actor everyone knows this

but if ledger isn't even nominated for best supporting actor its a travesty

tdk should be best picture imo i haven't seen a movie this year yet thats even as good at tdk not into these dramatic emotional movies yet to come out milk is only one i want to see

Its the 2nd biggest(box-office) film of all time. True, summer releases is negative, but people have forgot TDK.

All I care if Heath Ledger wins Best Supporting Actor. That's long due for Heath.

I'm gonna be biased on Angelina Jolie for Best Actress, I haven't seen new movie of hers but damn I want her to win.
