I believe that now is the best time to start with the real and serious Oscar predictions. We are at the end of November, and most of the big contenders are either out, or reviewed.

I know there’s a thread for this somewhere, but I think it’s good to start clear and fresh.

I hope Toy Story 3 makes it's way into the best picture category .

I haven't seen Black Swan but Natalie Portman might get nominated

lime basically has the right prediction although I think more than 1 actor in The Social Network will be nominated for Best Supporting Actor. And if its going to be one actor it would be JT.

I dont see why Ruffalo is getting so much buzz for his performance. He was good in the movie, but i dont think he was Oscar worthy. Alot of ppl seem to think so though

And I think Renner will be up for best supporting and The Town for best adapted screenplay

Christ, other than Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Portman, I haven't hears much Oscar buzz from the leading ladies.

How so? Annette Banning is considerate a favorite for the award!?

It's just around this time last year or the year before, I've heard more than two actresses for Leading.

Best Adapted Screenplay

Winter's Bone
Rabbit Hole
Social Network
Toy Story 3
127 Hours

What is Toy Story 3 an adaptation of ?

All sequels are considered adapted screen plays since they're based on the original film.

It's gonna be an incredibly competitive year for leading actress from what I've read, it'll be a genuine contest unlike last years joke. Supporting actress however is a different story, that one appears to be wide open, not many stand outs this year.

The big question is: Can Christian Bale win the Oscar?

Well, Renner was overpriced for The Hurt Locker as the movie itself. Still havent seen The Town, but the Supporting Actor category is very hard as usual.

Early words is Supporting Actor is Geoffry Rush's lose.

It's not that I'm doubting you...okay, well yes I am...

But do you have any examples of original sequels not based on a book that were nominated for best adapted screenplay?

I would love to see Christopher Nolan win best director just for having the balls to make such a left field hollywood blockbuster

I liked Inception but I don't think it was anymore of a left field blockbuster than The Matrix. The Matrix was just less complicated.

But that's just me. I personally preferred Shutter Island.

Bale is bigger then the oscars.

but if he wins for hes role in Fighter then it will be again proof that oscars are folowing rules

I'd say the buzz is starting to be more split between him and Bale, so it will probably be one of them. I haven't seen either film yet, but I've heard nothing but good things about those two.

Sequels in general, original or not, don't get nominated for anything so no. Wouldn't be surprised if TS3 is the first original sequel to be in this situation.

So basically there is no example of an original sequel to be nominated. Reason I said not based on a book of'course is because there are the Lord of the Rings and Godfather sequels.

I knew your reason. There was this same discussion about the TDK and it was said that it would have been nominated in the adapted, not original category.
